Elvis wasn't always a fat drug addled fool. He was also, and most importantly always will be, the King of Rock and Roll! A legend and a beautiful Human!
@TheLumleyboy Well Elvis had a psycho doctor who prolly killed him! He also wrote a psycho book about Elvis further smearing Elvis' image 32yrs after Elvis' death! The devil is greek and he's sad! XD
Musicians on this track are stellar. Great guitar work. Elvis was always motivated by great musicians. This is one of the best sounding videos I have heard on YouTube. Sounds like it was recorded yesterday.
Patsy Cline LOVED Elvis. She was there in the audience (just starting out) when he was boo'd off of the Grand Ole Opry and she clapped. She got to meet him on a few occasions and he even gave her his phone number at a benefit at St. Jude's :) Even kept a photo of him in the back of her personal scrapbook. She had great taste
@guitars71 In my opinion its a shame not to take Elvis to best guitarists list they do that all the time Eric is there Jimmy is no.1 as always they miss Elvis just because of his style maybe but this guy is equal to guitar in my book.
@aliihsanasl elvis is not a great guitarist, he's a preformer and he did not play guitar in this song. he had asked the writer, jerry reed to play, who recorded 'guitar man', 3 weeks before elvis covered it.

Jerry Reed wrote and recorded this (and US Male) in 1967. Elvis covered both in the same year, and used Jerry on both tracks. Reed also wrote and recorded a really funny piece about Elvis in the same year (Tupelo Mississippi Flash) which on You Tube.
GREAT GREAT SONG FROM THE ONLY KING FOREVER....BUT I SEE THAT THERE ARE SOME 20 FANS OF justin bieber AND lady gaga DON T WORRY FOR THEM THEY ARE LOST FOREVER.....RAFFI
@tuthill351 It's your opinion and I respect it (Elvis was not in a very creative time on his life, compare this performance to the '68 Special), but I'm sure If you asked Jerry before he died in 2008 the best memories in his life, I say recording with Elvis was one of them
Jerry Reed also wrote the song - the other studio musicians couldn't get the feel of the song, so they went out to find Jerry, who was fishing on the Cumberland River. He made it to RCA Studio B in about 15 minutes and provided the groove the other guys (and producer Felton Jarvis) was looking for.
jerry reed said, when he first met elvis at graceland.elvis opened the door to let him in !! jerry thought,GOSH ALMIGHTY!! first time i wished i was a woman!!!!
I saw this happen. Sitting in a fairly large room filled with many major and minor celebs, the door opened and in walked Elvis looking like 10 million dollars. Every head in the room turned to look at him! He didn't have to say anything but the air was filled with electricity; You could hear a pin drop. The MAN had arrived, and you couldn't help but stare. Whatever IT was Elvis had the market cornered!
@roadrulz Tom Petty tells the story of how he watched Elvis approaching and Elvis actually seemed to floating above the ground. True story! He was truly an "elevated" being and people were in awe!
There is just no substitute for a great Guitar player-despite the fact that a lot of people think they can play, and Guitars are everywhere, when you hear a real player-it is fantastic.
When we wake up to the truth of life, inspired music like this will emerge and flourish again, and all the uninspired crap that people call "music" these days will fade away and be forgotten. Search "Truth Contest" in Google and click the 1st result, then open The Present and read what it says to learn the truth of life.
elvis is the king and always will be fuck ya todays music not a patch on him so all you jokes who aint got a clue go give your heads a big wobble and shut it
In the age of Justin Bieber, Lady GAGA and American Idol, I surely do miss the King of Rock N Roll. Often copied but NEVER duplicated I will miss him forever. It pains me to think of all the music he still had left in him and we will never hear it...
@CzechoslovakiaRules He stole this song? Jerry Reed helped Elvis record this song in the studio, so using a term like "stole" is disengenuous and inflamatory.
Elvis is KING, don't forget that. All your foul mouth BS and lack of respect doesnt change that.
The real music. So pure. Not that choreographic crap. Just a few guitars and drums and the greatest entertainer/singer of all time and you got music. Long live the King!
@dacordova If Jerry didn't play in this version, I'm sorry. However, I believe he did. Elvis was recording "Guitar Man" for RCA when his session musicians were having trouble duplicating the Jerry Reed lick. They asked how are we going to get the Jerry Reed sound? The producer (I think Felton Jarvis) said get Jerry Reed.
In an interview, Jerry was called to the studio and played the guitar on that session.
even though they tried, Jerry never gave up his publishing on this song to the powers that be that governed Elvis's music, they tried to tell him that the song was not going to be released at all if Reed did not give up the "customary" 1/3 writing credit and the 1/2 publishing credit
Whatever may be said of Elvis at whatever stage of his career aside this much is true: at his very core he was a blues and R&B singer and this he could do as well as man or woman who lived to sing. RIP.
If you listen, you can tell it's Jerry picking his catgut Baldwin. As the other posters say, there's a lot of talent on this recording, not least Elvis and Jerry the Alabama wild man.
Elvis Presley heard "Guitar Man" by Jerry Reed (who wrote and recorded the song) and wanted to record it himself. However, the staff musicians at RCA (Elvis' label) couldn't get the guitar licks right on the song. In frustration, they wondered "How are we going to get the Jerry Reed sound"? Answer: Get Jerry Reed. So RCA called Jerry and told him to come down to the studio and play guitar for the song. BTW, Jerry also recorded for RCA.

This is great! Thanks you very much for putting it on for us..every time I hear Elvis I want to head to Vegas. Bright light Big city,,He was the man..
Nobody could have picked this except Jerry Reed- Elvis did a great Job singing the lyrics as always, but that HAS to be Jerry Reed picking on this record. Does anyone if Reed for sure did the picking on this recording?
wow, he pretty well did it exactly like jerry reed, or jerry did it exactly like elvis. who's playing the guitar on this track? because it sounds exactly like the recording of jerry doing it with different vocals.
I really rate this track and it's a good piece of country. I always thought Elvis should have gone over to country like Carl Perkins and Jerry Lee Lewis did.
Elvis asked for Jerry Reed, as was mentioned earlier. Jimmy shows up, sits down and says to Elvis "you're about the prettiest thing I ever seen, kind of wish I was a girl right now!" This is a true story.
Elvis' version of this song reached #28, posthumously, on the Billboard Hot 100, 3/21/81. Thanks for posting it! :)

Nobody could have picked this except Jerry Reed- Elvis did a great Job singing the lyrics as always, but that HAS to be Jerry Reed picking on this record. Does anyone if Reed for sure did the picking on this recording?

@KLUNKET
Search for "Jerry Reed 2006 interview Part 2" and hear the story from the man himself at the 1:14 mark.

@TheMoDonKey I like the song very much, but I really like Always on my Mind even better. Any King song is good though. Peace Monkey!!!

wow, he pretty well did it exactly like jerry reed, or jerry did it exactly like elvis. who's playing the guitar on this track? because it sounds exactly like the recording of jerry doing it with different vocals.

I really rate this track and it's a good piece of country. I always thought Elvis should have gone over to country like Carl Perkins and Jerry Lee Lewis did.

@esbramakopf Except Jerry Reed, who played the guitar on this because Elvis couldn't get it right.

Elvis asked for Jerry Reed, as was mentioned earlier. Jimmy shows up, sits down and says to Elvis "you're about the prettiest thing I ever seen, kind of wish I was a girl right now!" This is a true story.
