The Playstation 2 vs. Playstation 2 "slim", in My opinion, the original model wins when it comes down to the design look, the possibilities, the fan cooling and that it can take a bit more accidental damage then the slim version does + that the slim model is designed to be a budget version. Another minus is that the slim version cant stay on as long as the bigger one because the fan is so much smaller so when I bought my PS2, I asked for the bigger one (SCPH 50001), one of the last before slim.

@JesusCristo2002 I believe so; the developers host the servers so it depends on whether or not they still host it (there might be some sort of way for average joe to host a server idk though). I'm doubtful there's many people online so you'll probably have to ask someone on a forum to get online at a certain time to play. I'd look into it if you're interested. SOCOM or Final Fantasy XI might still be up, cuz those where pretty popular.

@Deidara1BG there's a fix for that. You literally open the system and there's a gear in the disc drive that you wind up turning and it fixes the problem for a while. I know it sounds stupid, because it is stupid, but it worked for me. Look it up on google. :\

Early slim's had the over heating problem but I had a SCPH 9000 so if going for a slim get this as having the power supply integrated means that while its harder to switch the adapter if your trying to use one from a different region with different ac voltage but you haven't mentioned this as a concern so the 9000 slim would be better as it is the newest revison of PS2.

I found these on a forum and fought it insightful as im still not convinced

Slim's are SCPH 7000 /7500 which fixed the 7000's heat problem both which have a external power brick or the much newer ones (SCPH 9000) The Emotion Engine CPU in these is running at 299mhz instead of 295mhz in a fat IIRC although I have used pretty much all models of PS2 (not next to each other mind) and haven't noticed a difference although it would mainly affect grand turismo 4 and other newer game's loading times.

i have one of these too and it completely sucks, it refuses to read any games that have light to medium scratches on it after a laser clean and it overheats a lot after an hour of game play, causing even more problems and eventually freezing the game. i recommend the bulky ps2, mine is going 12 years strong with no problems whatsoever, still reading CD's too and the most scratched of scratched discs

You can't stack consoles on top of a slim PS2 though. I like the side loaders for that reason.

Slim ones can never stop reading Blue Disc PS2 games!

That's why i got rid of PS2 Disc Tray Version, because they won't read any Compact Disc about 3 or 4 years later.

@cameron20101000 there is a ton of info about adjusting the laser of fat ps2's.. i did it myself and blue disc error was fixed and read them like new. not a hard thing to do

@trainxing100 It's that annoying Disc Read Error screen when it refused to read DVD-ROM/White Disc game, CD-ROM/Blue Disc (Also involved with PS1 games) that means it's either your laser needs to be clean, or your disc readetr is broken

@Jagger6570 No... Mark is as close to console neutral as a human can get, though he nostalgias about the genesis/32x and atari 2600/7800. For the record, my favorite systems of all time (so far) are the SNES and PS2. Both systems had excellent third party support and extremely good exclusives.

My US PS2 Slim (79001) powers just fine in regions that run on 240V, thanks to the dual wattage power supply the system came with. LOVE the PS2 Slim so much. :)

I recommend the original PS2. I first got the newest one when it first came out and it overheated. The old one has a fan so it doesn't overheat, what my first one did.
