  • @sinasl1 Pete thanks so much for this comparison, it really cleared up a ton of questions I had about these speakers. I understand the M75 is the closest thing to a vintage Greenback out there. Is this true in your experiences? I was also curious as to whether you have tried the 25 watt version, or the large dust cap version of this speaker since you made the video. I'm really looking for a dark speaker thats easy on the high end.

  • drop an M75 and an H75 in a box and I'm good...

  • 8:40

  • 6:29 7:38

  • I like the m75 and the scumnico 12 they sound great!

I guess I could be like Eric Johnson and have two different speakers in one 2x12 combo amp. And have a great tone lol

  • M75 kinda reminds me V30

  • thank you Pete !

  • The M75 seems like it's the perfect balance between all the frequencies. It's warm and pleasant yet it seems like it still has no problem cutting through the mix. M75 is the speaker for me man.

  • Like the M75 11:11 and the H75 12:11

  • Pete,

Thanks for this thorough and comparative review of the Scumbacks. Very well done as usual. Actually, I don't hear a favorite. I can see applications of all of them. That coming from a Celestion Blue and G12-65 guy.

If I had to chose one, it would be either the Scumnico or the M75.

  • Were the speakers provided by Scumback broken in? If they weren't and you've been playing your M75 for a while that would be a bit of a fly in the ointment so to speak. Great test! i always look forward to your videos. Thanks.

  • Hands down , Scumnico

  • Great demo Pete! To me, the H sounded more in-front and crunchy, and it made the M sound muffled, especially on the higher gain samples. Unless in the room, the M sounds balanced, and the H mid-heavy, like a V30??

  • I wanna hear the M75 and the J75LHDC mixed in a 4x12! Any opinion on what yall think would be best with a Soldano? My Vintage 30s are way too spikey, so I've been thinking about that M75 and J75LHDC mix

  • Now I know why you didn't want to demo any other of Scumback they ALL sound fantastic.

  • 3:50 - sweet. / 5:55 - Karangggg!/ 6:30 - focused and complex! 8:03 Chiming and even more complex! -- the dirtier it gets the better the big dust cap sounds! But the M75 keeps winning overall. For my style and taste I keep preferring the SPUMNICO .... it sounds so old skool... narrower but the mids are the most complex... to me that's what counts most in a track. The guitar blending in and yet having a lot of voice and character. Amazing video. Thank you so much.

  • Im gonna go ahead and be a dick, rumor has it that you can get the exact same speaker(s) from weber, its the legacy model. Oops did I just type that. Oh yeah, they're about $30-40 cheaper by the way.

  • @jball476 lol, well you said it best and also answered your own comment by "i'M g0nNa g0ES aND bEez a DiX".

  • Thank God someone as good as Pete Thorn did a demo for scumback!! I have a scumback M75 and H75 in a vintage avatar cab. I also have a collection of real vintage celestions: one 1968 g12m, one 1971 g12m, two 1973 g12m, and one 1974 g12m. They ALL sit in their boxes since I got scumbacks. They're too valuable to blow and the scumbacks mic up just too good.

  • Great comparison - I thought I would like the Alnico more - but your favorite may be the overall winner, sounds like less involved eq work to get all the overtones. Very in your face whithout a raspy sort of tone. Great!

  • Great demos. I wish you had talked about how each speaker FEELS compared to one another. I've played plenty of speakers that sound good but you cant feel anything when you play. Sort of like the Celestion GT75s. Bright with no feel.

  • May I ask you what kind of mic did you use for this demo?

    Thanks!

  • Awesome demo, like all of your demos. I liked the M75 the best. It is well balanced and musical. I liked the Scumnico in the "rootsy" clip with the Tele. The J75 was the best in the metal clip. I want the M75 to mix with a V30 in a 2x12.

  • he has a lazy eye, never noticed...

  • Nice fastway shirt... cool demo

  • GREAT DEMO! Changing the guitars in between speakers helped me a lot. Specifically the Les Paul and Teli since I have an 81' Ibanez AR-300 and a G&L ASAT Classic S; similar in character. The speakers in my Roland Jazz Chorus JC-120 just gave out and I've been looking for replacements. Which do you think will pair well with my amp? I was considering the Scumnicos since the JC-120 is a little on the bright side and could use some warmth. Thanks!

  • M75s with the LP is drooling!!!!

  • Great demo! The best demo on speakers here on youtube! I finaly ordered one, and I'm dying to get it! all the way form the us to norway! :D

What cind of mics are u using? 57 dead center, and a sennheiser on the side?

Could you do a similar demo on mics? would be great!!

  • the H75 with the PT100 clean setting had such a snap to it! Sounded great! And Pete, your demos are awesome!! What do you think of Keeley products?!

  • Sounds really good but what does it mean on YouTube ? Fortunately, I know these great speakers. To me the compressed YouTube sound is an outstanding problem.

  • Hey Pete, thanks for the cool demo.

What's in your opinion best Scumback speaker for an early VH tone e.g. Greenback's clone?

  • I like old rola celestions. In the old tweed marshall cabs... the age of the speaker makes a good sound.

  • the m75 is the goods man. overall it is the best. guess it depends on the person. Time to get me 4 of those m75's thanks for the review!

  • J and H clear winners for me also

  • finally someone played the marsha in C, it stayed a lot tighter than i thought it would :) i was sold on an M75 H75 x pattern 4x12 but man... that J75 and h75 sounded GOOD, beat out the m in my ears

  • Fantastic review! Many thanks for your efforts. I'm currently using an H55 & H75. I'll be getting a pair of M75's in due season on account of this video.

  • thank you for the Demo, it's helping a lot

  • Wish all YT demos were done as well as he does his. Pete's point about speakers being the final filter is well taken. I have taken to using heads/cabs instead of combos largely because I can mix and match. Guitarists are SO lucky today - so much good stuff available. You can get outstanding tone even with cheaper gear - speakers play a big part.

  • Probably one of the finest made demos on youtube. Well planned & thought out-and best of all you played the exact same riffs when comparing the different speakers--so very helpful!! Thanks

  • Very nice speaker shootout. Very professional.

  • Man you need to be teaching about how to make demo's! Awesome, the best speaker demo I've ever seen or heard on Youtube. Thanks!

  • I am really surprised by how great the M75 sounds clean. Have you ever tryed them with an open back cab? I'm thinking about putting a pair in my Twin Reverb, but am not sure they'll have the same effect in an OB cab.

  • i really love the sound with your explorer , could you tell me which pickups do you have on it , thanks , your demos are very amazing

  • Have these all been broken in (obviously the M75 has)? This would make a big difference. I know Jim does offer the FBI service, so I am guessing he sent you ones that had already been broken in.

I love the M75 and the J75. I wonder what they would sound like together?! I already have a H75 and love it. M75 next on the shopping list.

Awesome clip, I reckon I've listened 20+ times!!!

  • I have a 4x12 w/ M-75s and H75s in an X pattern and it slays! I also have a 2x12 w/Scumnicos and it provides some warmth and fatness. Your demo really highlights the differences and the strengths of each speaker, Pete. Thanks for your great work and passion!

  • J75 LHDC is for me!!!!!

    thanks for the wicked video

  • Thanks for this video...... Been thinking about changing my speakers, but this made me think again... I've got a 4X12 with two Scumback M75's and two H75's..... just don't think I'm going to get better than that

  • H75 for me, maybe because i mainly play metal. but its just defined.

  • Fantastic demonstration! Speakers deserve much more attention than most players give them. If you remember, can you tell me what speakers you were using when you did the Reinhardt "Ampzilla" amp demo on his site? Sounds absolutely incredible!!!!

  • Killer demo dude. I hope you get a hefty discount from him. That was better than all of the demos I've seen to date of the Scumbacks.

  • good demo, been waiting for this! Battling it out with the M75 and H75. Additionally, the J75 sounds like a Vintage 30, maybe?

  • @rompepecho I agree with you, the J75 seems to have more pronounced high-mids, like a Vintage 30, but less offensive...I'm loving this video, must have watched it 20 times already, the Scumbacks seem like the way to go......

  • Just wanted to say thanks to Pete for doing this. It is such a great demonstration of the tone variation that can come from your speakers. I'll be buying a pair of Scumbacks and I'm sure I'll still be coming back to this video to check it out in the future.

  • great video. thanks!! very helpful :)

  • I like M75 the most!!! :)

  • @pinkywontwork

dude get a doctor. i have two 4x12 basketweave cabinets that are still better than anything else i have. i have sold my vintage marshall heads but i keep the cabs as they are the best i have ever heard... so pease stop talking bullshit.

  • First off, great job on the demo... Probably one of the best I've seen. The problem is that different equipment draws out different ideas and playing technique so it's tough to know how they affect one emotionally from a clip. I usually need to spend a couple of hours to start to learn what a piece of gear inspires. I play differently through different speakers Your endorsement carries as much weight as the demo for me. Since I'm a fan of the Celestion Blue, I'll likely go with his 12 AlNiCo m

  • Pete thanks for this vid. We really appreciate this! Cheers!

  • good to see speakers techs doing something new. But I think spekers technology will improve only if they will get rid of paper cones and moving parts, these are the weakest link because they can't give you any resonance like any acoustic instrument.

  • Some of the C standard riffs remind me of Honor Thy Father. Awesome tone demo with sick playing!

  • Thanks Pete!

    I'm thinking the M75's and the H75's in an x pattern. \m/

  • don't understand why everyone seem to love scumbacks? to me they sound just boxy and dull

  • Hi Pete!

  • never heard you play metal before, true allrounder you are.

i like the M75 on cleans and the j75 big cap on the C tuned metal, the others i wouldnt use myself as im a metal guy. the speakers also seem to be at different volume, probably due to sensitivity. but great demo as allways. thanks pete.

  • Pete Thorn is the best demo guy.

  • THIS is a demo. You freakin' rule, Pete.

  • Oh man thats a tuff call I like them all for different reasons I see why you didn't wont to here the others for all that time, now my head is spinning.

  • Great demo , as usual Pete! Really does justice to the Scumback speakers.Congrats.

  • Thank you Pete for a great review of the Scumbacks, to my ear I like the low end of the J75 LHC, it would be great to have a 2-12 cabinet with one of those and a H75 I bet.

  • Now this is when a pro makes some reviewing... Crystal clear takes and easy-to-compare results... Thank you very much, the most helpful YT video that I've seen in months!

  • haha loved the explorer "presentation". Very cool demo, I can see why you like the H75!

    Thanks,

  • I love my Stoneage 4x12 loaded with M75 and H75 65w speakers. And Scumnico's sound amazing with old tweed type amps. Great video!

  • Great video and great playing.

  • Great demo. Pete. And great shirt. Fastway!

  • The j75 with the explorer was sweet

  • best tone = M75

    most balanced = J75

    most punchy = H75

the scumnico is a great surprise for me

I wish I could afford all of them

I have a H75 pair (bought them used)

well worth the price tag, though, specially considering the price of a new chinese celestion

  • Thanks for doing this! Well done.

  • I have the holy grail speakers pre rola g12m 012 003 cones and pre rola g12h30 55hz 012 014 cones - 4x12 basketweave cabs. can´t get better really. the only new speakers that i like are scumback M75 65W speakers they rip!!! jim you are the man...

  • @Twintone2007 No you don't. If you have pre rola speakers they're shot by now and "IF" you attempted a restore you no longer have pre-rola speakers. By the way I'm selling london bridge for $1000 want to buy it. If you bought into the "pre rola sucker hype" then you'll buy ANYTHING.

People quit falling for that BS even if you do find pre-rola speakers by now they're like a 40 year old prostitute used and abused and no longer close to what they once were even if restored.

  • you said you use the m75 65 watt speakers, do they sound better in a particular amp or amp style(american, british) you use or just great in all the amps

  • Great demo! Just out of curiosity how many guitars do you own?

  • Another great review!!! thanks for taking the time to do these reviews!

    M75 would be my choice.

  • great vid!

  • I've gotta say. Out of all the guys who demo products on YouTube, you reign supreme in terms of eargasm material.. Sick tones, as always!!

    Steve

  • M75 is the winner for my ears, it just hits a sweet spot on every tone. Thanks for this awesome demo Pete. How about comparing some Eminence speaker, like the cannabis rex and the like?

  • @ArielsSmartyPants Defenitely the M75s and the Scumnicos..I love the Scumnicos.

  • Impressive how every speaker sounds great. Scumbacks 4lif!!

  • Awesome timing of this demo for me pete as i have my PT100 coming in a few weeks!!..I have a Bogner OS 2x12..Which sums combo do you think will work best?

  • 6:30 is tone heaven to me! Thanks for the demo.

  • @bmwm3cs me too!

  • @sinasl1 What OHM's are all these that your testing Pete?..And what mic?...And Pre if any?

  • @sinasl1 the H75 with the PT100 clean setting had such a snap to it! Sounded great(they all sounded great!)! And Pete, your demos are awesome!! What do you think of Keeley products?!

  • Brilliant demo!

  • great demo, I'm also going to go with the M75s as my favourite from this demo. As a side note have just ordered my first Suhr guitar from Peach Guitars here in UK! Suhr Guthrie Govan Modern Bengal Burst on its way as soon as John and the boys build it! Dam all waiting lists! lol

  • Excellent

  • They all sound great, although I can't get into the scumnico... call me crazy.

  • @Sco22 Actually I think I'm smitten with the H75.

  • Comment removed

  • Great demo! I prefer the M75s in this demo. I use WB Pickups in my main guitar, a Gibson Les Paul Classic. I have the Habanero's. I use the guitar in my Eagles tribute band, playing Joe Walsh parts and they sound killer. I have yet to try WCR's but they are on my list to try next.
