This was seriously interesting :D I was wearing earphones, so the buzzinb sounded really creepy in my ears LOL But great video, you must be pretty patient :)
@Tralocor - hey thanks. Patience is a must for time-lapse photography. I am a complete novice when it comes to photography, but my extreme love for the concept of 'change over extended periods of time' has inspired some fun and interesting projects. Funny that you mentioned the earphones, a few others have mentioned similar experiences.
I came home one night to discover about 15-20 flies on my bedroom window. Absolutely puzzled as to where they came from I decided to properly tidy up and found about 20-30 of those pupae pods on the floor under the wardrobe. This entire process took place without me even knowing, which disgusts me to a degree. Rest assured though, the whole place has been completely blitzed clean, hoovered and bleached. Twice.
anyone know how long can they survive without food or water, i caught this horse fly larve in a jar and left it for 1 week so far and it is still alive
@shadowdemons117 - Yes it was fairly easy. All I did to get the flies to lay the eggs was leave the chicken out overnight. Then I placed the chicken in the clear plastic container. I used an emptied ant farm container. I covered the small holes on the side with plastic and poked tiny holes in it so the maggots would not get out but would allow oxygen in. The maggots that I left with the chicken didn't pupate, but the ones that I placed in the dry container with no food began to pupate.
nasty why not just kill the nasty freeking things bfore they hatch come on get real these are pests not anything cool about letting a fly or baby maggot live gross i just found some in my kitchen i am highly disgusted thanks for the education but please kill the damn fliies and their babies now NOW!!!
@bigflytrap - That was an ant farm container that I used to let the maggots eat the chicken and then I moved some of them to an old vase with the lid covered for them to pupate. The smell was not really a problem because it was in a well ventilated storage area.
They certainly are efficient, aren't they? I had a bath towel that I'd soaked up some blood from meat and tossed outside til morning when I could launder it. By the time I got up there were two silver dollar sized mounds of yellow eggs (house flies) that were each about 1/2" thick. I flung it out into the pasture where I'll never have to see or touch it again!
Amazing how they move about. Can any tell me how a fly got into my cheese it was in a closed cubboard the cheese was open thou if i remeber correctly... now it has small maggots.

What kind of enclosure did you use? What about the smell? I want to breed my own houseflies to feed my animals.
