Not really pipe band style to me. His index finger is over the top of the stick not typical in Scottish drumming, very little contact with the thumb on the stick, and his pinky and ring finger are much more bent than the typical pipe band drummer. Also he is playing very down into the drum, not a lot of lift for a pipe band drumming style.

@lnsdrummer1156 your not good , a good student and mainly for self taught students like myself, is good to have a teacher when you start, but in a self taught case you have to make a system of your own , once you feel you have it, you move one, i dont think you are good if you didnt even know when to move on. its up to every drummer to decide when, not the teacher as many think. and learn to spell, english is not even my native tongue and i write better than you. go practice your "falms"

this is not correct technique for kit or orchestral or marching. it is just bad technique in general.

BUT that doesn't mean he is bad at whatever he plays, as long as it's NOT MARCHING.

so if he's GOOD on the set, and u feel as though you are getting better, and other people acknowledge this(NOT ur peers in high school or middle w/e) then by all means continue to take lessons.

if NOT, u need someone better.

ok ok ok... to end this distpute, marching technique ( I am a drumline instructor) and drumset/orchastral techniques are all different in some regard. His technique here is best suited for drumset. It's not wrong, it's just the way he feels confortable with. I personally use my marching methods when I play on the drum kit, but thats just cause marching techniques have been engraned into my skull llol...
