He's a tenor. Baritone tessitura is typically G2-F4, verdi and bass baritones even lower. I have only heard myles dip below middle C maybe twice. he struggles on many low notes. meanwhile people are comparing him to cornell whom has hit many low notes, D2 notably in beyond the wheel.

BOTH are AMAZING and Myles if perhaps the best modern singer

myles is a tenor its just a fact....theres no way a barritone with any amount of singing lessons could reach those notes. also whoever commented about him saying hes a bit of both, this is not possible as u are born as one or the other.

@clince121188 . I can asurre you that a baritone can reach those notes. Ian Gilliian (deep purple) has an enormous range and he can. Here in youtube, there's a vocal teacher called Kevin Richards who is incredible and he also can. Myles himself said he was a bit of both and think he's right. He has great lows and great highs.

Just keep in mind guys that he's 40. The guy has really taken care of his voice throughout the years of singing but aging obviously still plays a part. I'm pretty fucking sure when he was in his 20's, it was effortless.

he sounds effortless cause its a recording man.. he can record it and edit till it sounds the way its supposed to be.. thats why it sounds better.. and bout live, he's fuckin runnin round the stage playing the guitar man.. you cant expect him to be the same as recording.. he's just amazing live and a GOD in the redording studio :D

First of all, he doesn't run on the stage. He plays the guitar but even when he doesn't, he sounds different from the recording. He Is my favourite singer, i'm not criticising Myles. I'm just saying what i hear. He really sounds great live but he and everybody else sound better on the cd.

@leagiar yup.. agree.. he's better in recording cos like i said, they repeat it on and on till it sounds how they want it o.. but live you cant do that.. for obvious reasons... plus the mixing is better in a studio and it takes probably months to get the perfect sound.. but the live versions actually (according to me) sound very close to the original.. not many bands have that in them

I am saying he's a baritone because on stage he makes some effort trying to reach for example the high notes of Metalingus. If you compare Myles (cd version) with Myles (live version) there is a difference on the low notes (warmer in the cd ) and the high notes (effortless in the cd).

A tenor is a singer who has difficulty to get to the low notes and easily reaches the high notes. A baritone is a singer who can reach the lows and also the high notes. i'm saying this because i am singer and i studied with a techer. James Blunt is a tenor, not Myles.

Kennedy sounds very light up there, with lots of tenor-chracteristic overtones. He could be a tenor with an extened low range. Or a bari with an extended high. Though the fact that he STAYS on those notes for an extended period of time and with such ease gives more credit to him being a tenor. I know plenty of tenors with low G's and F's.

I've seen Shinedown twice in the last year. First time was at the beginning of tour. Brent was great, spot on vocals. Second time was about 8 months later and he was still good, but you can tell he'd been on the road for quite some time. It's not as easy as most people think to perform night after night and be right on every time. I like Brent, but I actually prefer Myles' voice. I've yet to see AB live as they've only been to Cincy once, but next time they're close, I'm there.
