  • "Now he belongs to the ages'...missquote - he actually said, 'now he belongs to the angels'.

At the moment of death the vicar present had said a prayer that ended ...'and may angels sing him to heaven'....Stanton spoke next and clearly used this theme for what he said..

  • lookingforspace09 ur races

  • Lincoln didn't free the slaves--the 13th Amendment to the Constitution did--even though that amendment is null and void since nothing in the constitution states that states or the federal government can coerce states into ratifying an amendment--which is what happened--representatives to Congress from the defeated Southern states would not be seated unless the Southern states ratified the 13th-14th and 15th amendments.

  • Lincoln was a sight to see by the time they got his rotting ass back to Springfield. You couldn't even recognize his face anymore because it was so bloated, not to mention the god-awful stench. Embalming methods were primitive a best in those days and half the time they didn't do what they were intended and sometimes even accelerated decomposition. Stinkin' Lincoln. Whew.

  • RIP My favorite President. This music is lovely and sad. :(

  • Certainly one of the tragedies of American history was the assassination of this great man. I have a collection of newspapers from April - June 1865, and reading the news as it was reported at the time gives one a vivid sense of the sorrow and the outrage that afflicted so many in the aftermath of that tragic event.

  • RIP Honest Abe

  • i wish id been there to spit on him as he went by.. tyrants are not to be honored

  • @longfootbuddy I wish you'd been there to spit on him too. You'da been dead two seconds later.

  • @40AcreMule i wouldnt doubt it.. we live under the same tyrannical goverment now as we did then

  • Abe Lincoln is one of the greatest men in history.

If you think presidents have problems today, just imagine what things were like back in the 1860's when the country was divided and at war.

Lincoln kept us together and freed the slaves.

His speeches were legendary even then and crowds flocked to see him.

When he died, the nation cried.

    George Vreeland Hill

  • @GeorgeVreelandHill you're absolutely right, he was one of the greatest men in history. I never realized that he was persecuted from the start of his presidency for his resolve to end slavery. What a great man, reunited the country and ended slavery!!! We were so very lucky to have him!!!

  • @GeorgeVreelandHill Not only that, the nation was splitting apart. He held it together and died for his efforts.

  • Very nicely done

  • Who composed this music? I'd love to get a copy, if possible.

  • "Now he belongs to the Ages"
