really only 800 lol you should definitely check your figures cause the battalion im attached to deploys almost that many itself and that's only one small part of the big picture.
the afghan and NATO army must keep capital cities of afghanistan secure from infiltration and weapons insertion inside, stop the taliban from blending to the populace, in that way you can prevent the worst case scenario, urban warfare, engage them as early as possible in thier hideouts on mountains...so there will be no prob of sorting out

This is why they will never defeat the "enemy", especially in a mountainous region. But then again maybe their presence has more to do with wanting troops positioned strategically on the battlefield of the near future, waiting for the real war to begin, the war over resources/israel
In Kandahar they have only 800 U.S soldiers under the Canadian forces command. The Afghan national army are trained by the Canadian forces not U.S army or whatever.
