It annoys me that he constantly finds EVERY one liner he says at the end of EVERY SINGLE SENTENCE to be hilarious and he extends his laugh and smile to the point that he looks for others validation almost, as though to say I am STILL FUNNY every time I speak and he's not. It comes across as SO forced. When he was young, it was cool, but at 50 years old, can't he just be a bit more humble and not try and CONSTANTLY be ON??
This man just gets it all out. If you hate him, you will feel worse after 15 minutes in his company. If you like him, you feel a sense of freedom with the guy!
He is an entertainer and he is good at it.But the added plus is that DLR is with one of the best rock bands of the 80s, Van Halen. Great upload.Thank you.
Man, that was awesome! This is how Dave should look today. He is more himself and confident with long hair, in leather and wearing big shoes. Today with the short hair and bad jackets, he lose this edge.
@Danimal77 Naw, you can't explain the changes in just 10 years of age. The Dave in his 20s was very cool. He wasn't nervous and always smiling and always forcing it (watch the old interviews). He lost it and grew very nervous as his popularity fell. The one thing I noticed, is when he cut his hair short, on stage he was less confident. Saw the difference between 2002 performances versus the short hair 2005 solo performances. Love Dave, but hey, I'm not blind. I wish I could advise him.
As much as I like David Lee Roth he's just a "Rockstar"...and that's it, he can barely write some basic commercially-friendly lyrics, be an average singer and do stage antics and being a "frontman" and a "showman" more than a singer...everything else that's actually more important is usually swept under the rug...
I'm not defending the assholes playing crap music today either, but maybe some of them actually want to be recognized as musicians and artists more than "rockstars"...
@MoonOvIce Ok, I see your point. But why dwell on those negative aspects? Sure he's no Sting when it comes to songwriting prowess or Freddie Mercury with the singing, but he did EXACTLY what he set out to do and became recognized for it. He didn't have to be a musician. That was Eddie's job. That's why they always had fights, because they were two different energies. Dave chose to be a showman, and ultimately that helped to propel Van Halen into the spotlight. I'd say that's pretty "important".
The Man, The Myth, The Legend!... They bring up a good point, they don't make "Rock Stars" like DLR anymore; they said this in 2002 and in 2011 it's still true.
@blasto1979 That is right. There are great musical talents. That is fine. I like like much of the new music that is being played but, this is what a rock star should be. Not some guy who looks like he just worked at a garbage dump. Yes. They do not make them like this anymore.
@gethsenamane Plus, just specifically, Diamond Dave is a very well-read person, he's traveled and experienced many places in this world most people only can dream/read about. One of a kind guy! Too bad they don't have a DVD set on this guy- it'd be entertaining.
Dave's career would have been extended far longer if he'd have modernised his look. For years he looked like a mop with Sunglasses and leather pants. Good to see now he's dressing his age and looks better for it.
I'm a little high right now; Dave's freaking me out!!

This is a DECADE ago. People age in 10 years. Comparing a man who was in his late 40's to a man in his late 50's, is HUGE..

Carson Daly is used to interviews on MTV's TRL live or whatever. He can't hang with David Lee Roth and looks like a total tool in this interview.
