  • A dull Katana (or any dull blade )cannot slice in such a way to produce the quick seperation of section of the apple, such dull blade would require more force, possibly resulting in injury to the throat.throat This is real,I saw the similar demo but with a tomato, done by an 8th Dan & black belt.At City College Bklyn Ny.Its real. Its chi.

  • Yeah but that is hardly a full swing.

  • fuck that. I would not volunteer for that shit.

  • of the wrist, the master who is unquestionably skilled with a sword, chops the blade through the core, feeling the blade slow through his palms, sending off a cascade of electrical impulses to force his arms to cease the chopping motion and slap the sword on his neck sideways. You will notice in the slow recording his hand holding the rear end of the handle twists. Your eyes will then gaze down to the neck which shows ripples of skin from the force of the slapping motion. To be able to do somet

  • Listen up children of the earth, the sword is indeed real, and yes indeed, the sword did bounce off the neck, but, with a swift twist of the wrist, the master who is unquestionably skilled with a sword, chops the blade through the core, feeling the blade slow through his palms, sending off a cascade of electrical impulses to force his arms to cease the chopping motion and slap the sword on his neck sideways. You will notice in the slow recording his hand holding the rear end of the handle twist

  • this guy is a motherfucking samurai. everyone needs to calm the fuck down.

  • Not bad but i was expecting him to just like massive overhead cut it but he just quickly cut it up close. kinda disapointing after the big build up, his son wasnt really in danger because he was just bouncing the sword of his throat with barely any force. now if he pulled it back after chopping, his son would have something in common with the headless horseman.

  • @UncleFooFoo68 i dont mean to make fun or make an arguemnt i just judge it how i see it. and besides if the swords sharp enough it wont matter if the apple or his sword is harder than the other if you catch my meaning.

  • @XgwtfbroX sorry i meant throat not sword but basicly if his sword was sharp itd be a big deal but since it looks blunt and it bounces of his throat after cutting through a soft apple it aint so great.

  • @XgwtfbroX

I have touched that very sword. You can easily cut yourself on it. It's that sharp and there is nothing fake or blunt about the sword or this demonstration.

  • @UncleFooFoo68 we both have different opinions bro. thats the thing about yt.

everyone has theyre opinion and say with absolute freedom to do so. when people put up a vid they are basicly asking for to be judged and unfortunately not everybodu is gonna like it. i just gave my honest opinion dude

  • @XgwtfbroX

    As did I

  • has anybody else notices that that was the wrong part of the blade? I'm just saying.

  • @utefan698 in normal swordsmanship, yes, but being farther away would cripple accuracy

  • thats a fucking reverse edge like kenshin used in samurai x

  • the real raiden.

  • japanese hate fake.

  • FAKE!!!!!!!!!!!

  • At 03:06 you can actually see that the blade touches his throat...

  • dull blade

  • @sototajeri

and I suppose the apple came pre-sliced as well?

  • @IdarkphoenixI dull blade will cut the apple but it will take more power to go through flesh, and you can see where it hits the throat, if the blade was razor sharp it would cut him, nevertheless this takes a lot of skill to perform

  • @sototajeri, Totally, you could crush his larynx or esophegous

  • practice makes perfect!!!

  • Dont try this at home

  • CONTROL.

  • if seen another video like this before...the guy split his volunteers throat wide open in front of a big crowd, he looked like a douche

  • When he put the blindfold on I was like, "Oh snap!"

  • probably one of the only times in history a sharp katana has been swung at someones throat WITHOUT the intention of killing them

  • 2:58 to skip to what you came here for.

  • anyone who had any real respect for sword arts or for human life would not attempt this

  • @chadimus84

I agree. That seemed risky, even for a master. If you have to even feel the apple or the person you're risking the life of, you shouldn't be doing this.

If you're going to do that blindfolded, you better be able to tell where things are by how the wind moves and how the sound waves reflect.

Also the double tap seemed very amateurish, not something I'd expect from a master. This is an art where you make a single decisive stroke per swing.

  • 3:30 our friend went to the bath hhhhh

  • Comment removed

  • I would have shit myself.

  • volunteer.. yeah right

  • the apple is hard, of cors u can slice it with 1 strike even with a kitchen knife. but a neck or a stomach cant be sliced without a FORWARD or BACKWARD follow though of the sword or knife.

  • if this is a trick, then im the dragon warrior

  • That is the most trusting son I have ever seen.

  • an old trick done by many magicians....very old trick

  • @greyzorro1 Then show me a video of somebody else doing it

  • This is for all the doubters out there in YouTube land. If what Ochiai does is a so called "parlor trick," why is it nobody else in the world can do this? I challenge anybody to give me a link to a video showing somebody else doing this very "trick." That is slicing an apple off of somebody's bare throat, with a sword, blindfolded. Just a warning. You're going to be "Googling" for a VERY long time.

  • @UncleFooFoo68 preach it brother...

  • @UncleFooFoo68 Saw this video yesterday enjoy:

    /watch?v=c6KnCmIVMpg

Not exactly an apple but I'm sure he could pull it off.

  • @HaloLvl43Legit

Thanks for the video and I did enjoy it. I'm guessing this guy could pull it off too. Not sure that the producers of Britain's Got Talent would let him try it, but I'll be watching if he does.

  • @UncleFooFoo68 No problem, I'm not calling what these men do a parlour trick. Just thought I'd share.

  • @UncleFooFoo68, At first I thought your argument was ridiculous, but you are right, IF this was a parlor trick, why haven't say, Penn Jillette and Teller done it? If it's simple hand-eye manipulation Teller is a freaking grandmaster (And has indeed done parlor tricks to make him appear to be a freaking martial arts genius or borderline superhuman, which of course he isn't). So if it's a parlor trick, we need to find a magician or martial artist/illusionist to do the same thing.

  • @UncleFooFoo68 I have no doubt about the skill required for this. however i am sure that I have seen a similar demonstration before, by some korean swordsmen ...

  • @AnimaeLibera Again, I'm looking for a video of somebody else doing this. I'm guessing there are other people out there with the skill to pull this off, but I just haven't seen it yet. I've known Ochiai for 35 years and he's a local legend and the real deal. He toured with Bruce Lee and Chuck Norris and is currently a 9th degree black belt.

  • @UncleFooFoo68 /watch?v=NSxOE-1P2y0&feature=related is the only one ive seen

  • ah, so the old parlor trick still lives. note that he cuts with the lowest part of the blade where it's not that sharp at all. he also doesn't stop the blade, but pulls it up right away. also he doesn't cut, but hits, which makes sure the sword doesn't cut skin. it can, but he's probably had a little practice, but still. parlor trick. if he cut for real he would cut with the outer portion of the blade and stop before hitting the throat... which would be impressive, this however is not. :/

  • My god!

  • why to do this....

  • don't think the sword was sharp.. u only need it to be thin.. looks like hes touching his throat....if it would been "katana sharp" he would bleed like hell... is't a shame he don't show the sharpness first on some bamboo or something

  • @superford500 Indeed the contact with the participants throat was significant. And although Ochiai didn't demonstrate the sharpness of the blade, he also didn't use a cutting movement. That is to say that the katana cuts when it slides. Here we can see that the blade is pushed through the apple easily through force, but not the throat because it didn't slide against the throat. I've done this demonstration, and that is how I did it. I don't feel that it really demonstrates anything though.

  • @kumogakuredojo

    You are right, of course.

People who say otherwise simply don't know how a katana blade works.

  • A Bullshit

  • "He gave you shit bow."

  • thats insane. It looked like the guy under the apple thought it was over to when the first chop went through, the was about to get up... coulda gone bad.

  • @Richarddwc Yeah, I picked up on that too! The guy under the apple is Ochiai's son. I think he forgot his Dad was going for another slice.

  • Great skill, horribly irresponsible!

  • Alright, this guy is a fucking monster. *bows* Much respect. MUCH respect.

  • Could you post the earlier sword demonstations on the same video (just prior to Mr.Ochiai) that were performed by Mr. Mori and Mr Shimabukuro so that everyone can see what the traditional sword demonstrations looked like on that same day? Please...................

  • I've seen this attempted elsewhere on youtube, where the sensei cut his students throat while attempting to cut ONLY a cucumber. The student didn't realize it right away, because he got up and walked a few steps before collapsing. Apparently he was okay after receiving medical attention, but the fact remains that the Sensei had incompotent skill, and hospitalized his student. THIS Sensei however DOES have the necessary skills to pull of this feat. Well Done!!!!!

  • @jacobbenmichael seen that one too.. but i have my doubt on this. . .

  • Yoda

  • I taught he's gonna charge a horizontal slash and slicing instead of "cutting" the apple.. but pretty nice

  • Whoa! He almost beheaded him!

  • fail.

Such an embarsement for the history of the art and sword.

  • ended video at 3:40 . I'm about to go try it.

    j/k

  • for the people saying this is a trick i am not a master and don't know much about the art but i think that with hard training it is posible

i asume it is muscle memory you always do the same movement at the same precision every time

like playing an instrument like piano a good pianist can play the same music whenever he wants playing the same notes with the same fingers everytime he has done it so many times that he is perfect

if this is a trick than that would be a trick too

  • ITS THE BLIND SWORDSMEN RUN!!

  • from the makers of fruit ninja...

  • @mallemall012 theres plenty of guys cutting fruit of the stomach...this guys trick is the throat...same effect just looks more dramatic.....sad he has to cheapen an ancient art with such sideshow tricks

  • @mallemall012 i lol'd

  • Thats amazingggg

  • But... the sword bounced! You can SEE how the sword TOUCHES HIS THROAT.

  • musashi could split a grain of rice on a man's fore head!

  • I love the ending do not try this at home um hell no i would not that guy has crazy skills and hes very traditional in his preparation good job wow insane ive watched it 3 times and its amazing everytime

  • I'm from Upstate, NY and Hidy Ochiai is a local legend. He's a true martial arts expert and there is absolutely nothing fake about this video. I don't know of another person in the world who can do this and I challenge anybody to find one.

  • @UncleFooFoo68 It took me 4 seconds to find more films. Search Grandmaster SJ Kim apple demonstration

  • @SenseiStrange I suggest you spend more than 4 seconds next time. I'm looking for somebody who can slice an apple from somebody's THROAT. Like I said. I've never seen anybody else attempt this. I've touched that very sword of Ochiai's and you can easily cut yourself if you're not careful.

  • @UncleFooFoo68 actually I had posted 4 responses, but for some reason only 1 remained posted. I am not tearing down your guy, but this is a fairly standard trick. I will message you the collection.

  • Comment removed

  • @SenseiStrange

There is absolutely nothing standard about this "trick," Calling it a trick makes it sound like it's a scheme intended to deceive. This is nothing but pure skill and mastery. Hidy Ochiai is the only person in the world who can slice an apple off of somebody's bare throat, blindfolded with a sword. Once again, I challenge you to find somebody else doing this.

  • @UncleFooFoo68 search Tom Meseroll - Martial Magician

  • @SenseiStrange I did and he's slicing a watermelon on a guy's abdomen and the watermelon is on a towel. Again, I don't know of anybody else in the world who can do that. Slice an apple on a persons bare throat with a sword.

  • I wish I had Master Ochiai skills <.<

  • @Strudelmuffin You shouldn't make statements about things you don't fully understand.

  • @Semplespacemodule why would you take the time to say its a fake but not take the time to explain how its a gimic? Obviously he had a good degree of control because if not the volunteer probably would have gotten up with a cut on his neck which he did not.

  • I would piss in my pants only when I hear the draw. :D

  • 2:32 Slow-clap fails miserably.

  • @AlexWerkmeister712 lolololololol =D

  • black hakama and keikogi, white hakama and keikogi, or black hakama and white keikogi? Just a personal preference question because I need to get a new set and I was wondering about the colors because I would think that a white hakama may be burdensome when having to clean it often because of sitting in seiza and such tasks that require a lot of contact with the ground...

  • wtf the sword was bouncing off the dudes neck hahaha what a fail!!

  • @semplespacemodule its called countrol dumbass

  • @412356 no it wasn't control you fool!! Did you not read my comment, the sword bounced off his neck, if the sword hadn't of touched the mans neck i would have said great control. This is a terrible bit of swordsmanship. I should know, i practise Tenshin Shōden Katori Shintō-ryū almost daily. I unerstand how the guy in video does it, cannot be bothered to explain. It is a gimic often performed at samurai sword events, the narrator at then end is lying, all part of the show. /watch?v=5fQyuAM2bZs

  • @semplespacemodule Pal, you can't even spell never mind practice swordsmanship. I suggest you take a trip to Vestal, NY and tell Hidy Ochiai he's a fraud to his face. Just let me know when you're coming so I can film it and put it on YouTube.

  • its easier to control the sword when cutting nearer the handle, id like to see him doing it with the tip of the sword.....ooops!

  • @Olzvic90

I'm not denying the fact that a katana isn't sharp or powerful, but, realistically, it's nothing more than a hunk of folded steel in the end and can't do anything beyond what a hunk of steel is capable of. I, too, own several katanas; one of them being over $2000.00 and I'm fully aware of how sharp they are but it's still a stretch to say that the averse katana could tear through a person like butter. Even a great katana could only cut through about 7 people before breaking.

  • @Struedelmuffin

Tell that to my Muromachi era katana. : )

  • @Struedelmuffin And exactly how many people have YOU cut with your mere $2000.00 sword.

  • So fucking gOod. the sword is very sharp.you can see it by looking at the apple when it is sliced.

  • Wow!!!!

  • zatoichi

  • A lot of people don't realize how sharp and heavy an actual katana is. Movies and anime have corrupted our views a bit haha. Katanas aren't 2 ounce armor piercing death machines. They're just heavy, pointy chunks of metal.

  • @Struedelmuffin a katana can slice through bone and in the hands of A EXPERT is a death machine

  • @Struedelmuffin i dissagree there dude :p a Katana is actualy and armor piercing death machine (a way of speake) i have an CARBON STEEL KATANA myself. and it is so sharp that if i exedently touch the blade, i can end up at the hospital with a serious cut. if that sword had been sharpen and polished. he would had cut the head of the guy with ees.

  • what i wanna know,.... how many sons did he go through while practicing :/

  • a penny for the thoughts of the volunteer!!

  • I bet that volunteer was wearing a diaper under his pants because you know he shit himself. I dont care how good that guy is lol.

  • It might've ended differently if the volunteer had been caught making improper advances to Master Ochiai's daughter."Welcome to the family, son!"

  • I was just imagining someone farting that entire time...

  • To anybody who thinks the sword is dull - martial arts katana are among the sharpest and strongest in the world. They range on average from $250-$5,000. They can cut both flesh and bone. Decapitation with katana is much easier than many of you think. Cutting through the top of a human skull is also an easy task. It's amazing that he didn't cut the volunteer's throat at all.

  • *Takes apple* OM nomnomnomnomnom

  • my head is off to ths guy

  • Fucking Crazy !!!

  • There's no mastery in that.

  • He used to be my Karate instructor :D

  • No matter what happen, just don't have an erection while he's cutting.

  • That guy's gi pants just turned brown.

  • apple don't slice back.

  • @AmericanPowerBase

I found a video for you to watch

    /watch?v=6gUHajQUQfk

Come back and tell me exactly what part of my statements are "unfounded bullshit".

  • hey look at all the geeks fighting in the comments.

  • @sebastianguis your a fucken moron!

  • hey you dumb piece of shits, if you don't know who he is then shut your stink mouth!

  • 1st slice: successful

2nd slice: He thinks he needs a second slice but the second slice cuts the guys head off.

  • people especially the older generation take greater price in their culture and what theyve study i dont think he would do alittle things like use dull sword

    just saying

  • I can't believe someone is still doing this....and more amazing is that still have people who believe this...see the blade bounced off the neck after it cut through the apple? Put an apple on top of a piece of meat and cut the apple with a kitchen knife and see what happen to the meat.

  • Look the sword goes into his neck but doesn't penetrate the skin, you can see the skin ripple. This is a cheap trick martial artists have known for years, mainly than it is quite difficult to cut skin with pressure directly into the flesh. In order to cut skin properly you must press down but also slide the blade while you press. The other way many use this trick is to place a sword on their stomach and have someone hit it with a hammer. They claim it's "ki" but really it's just the way skin is.

  • @Whoever1224

No, your totally wrong. I study under Sensei Ochiai in Vestal and I've TOUCHED the sword used for this demo. I cut my hand and was bleeding pretty bad, it's razor sharp. If you look closely, the sword NEVER touches his son's neck. Sensei also lays on a bed of VERY SHARP UNEVEN nails (cut my finger also) and lets someone break cinder blocks on his stomach with a hammer. Someone else tried to attempt this "trick" and died from wounds. Don't assume before you post.

  • @ST3 I know the sword is sharp that is my point. Skin is very elastic and will not be cut by a long blade placed flat upon it and pushed down. Well technically it still can be cut this way but it is much harder. The force of the cut is spread out and does not pierce the skin. This is a trick. I would like to see the same thing done but with the apple on top of the guys head. There the skin is backed by bone and could not spread the weight out. That is why you see this only done on soft areas.

  • @Whoever1224 Still takes incredible control to only use enough force to cut the apple. Too much and it would still cut through the guy's neck, even with the elasticity of skin. Credit where it's due :)

  • @Whoever1224 Neck is probally the place that is weakest and the easiest to die from being hit there. If he cut the windpipe at all he'd have died.

  • @LightxKira5643 Look at a diagram of a neck and you will see that the windpipe and blood vessels have a small layer of muscle over them, not to mention the skin and sinews. This is supple enough to resist a decent amount of force provided it is applied in such a way that the skin, sinews and muscles can spread it out. Look at 3:05 the blade hits his neck with the first strike but the suppleness of the skin and tissues spreads out the force of the strike and prevents any damage to his neck.

  • @Whoever1224 I've almost killed someone with a weak attack to the neck before. And the attack was MUCH less damaging than a sword slash.

  • @LightxKira5643

Firstly I doubt that, secondly as I have said before the trick is not that he is "slashing" but just going straight down into his neck. The skin spreads out the force of the blade and the impact was soft but still hit his neck. Watch this video

    /watch?v=6gUHajQUQfk

same concept but if either of these folks would've done this on a harder part of their partners bodies (i.e. top of head) they would be much more injured.

  • @Whoever1224 there is another video on youtube when a different sensei cut his student doing the same "trick" and the poor guy was bleeding a lot.

  • @rokubota I would like to see that video. In the mean time check out this video.

    /watch?v=6gUHajQUQfk

He illustrates exactly what I said, with force straight down it is very hard to cut skin.

  • @ST3 heyy i know my karate instructer told me about that too

  • @ST3 well said @Whoever1224, these morons making these stupid negative comments don't even know who master Ochia is.

  • @PakDaeHan yes because you're not making ANY negative comments at all.

  • @PakDaeHan I don't see what all the hating is about.

I acknowledge that this takes a decent amount of practice to go at a guy blindfolded with a sword but it is nowhere near as magical as many make it seem. He must simply position himself in the correct place to start and count his steps to the proper area. He must then aim at a target about 3 inches wide and do a straight downward stroke. He does hit his neck, look at the video. This is trick is done by thousands. It's nothing special.

  • @Whoever1224 if it was nothing special we'd all be fucking doing it

  • @ST3 your full of shit...

  • @Whoever1224 bullshit, stop talking crap and post a video of you doing this? I am sure you will kill your dumb self!

  • Hm either swords dull or the base of it is really really dull. Anyway you don't need a crap ton of chi to have focus.

If this uses any real amount of energy this is kids stuff.

Just long hard focus/practice would make it possible. Practice without a dull blade.

I still would'nt mess with the guy though haha.

  • @dardonZ your a total moron, how can a dull blade slice through an apple dumb ass!

  • @PakDaeHan Hm A total moron, I don't see what I said personally to deserve that. Secondly I have a dull blade, and it would definitely go through the apple lol.

  • The base of most katana swords are the dullest. But that guy obviously didn't realise he was going to cut it twice. almost lost a few fingers

  • @StargateMunky he ain't just no guy you moron!

  • @ 1:36 "Master Ochiai will now slice an apple..."

I was like, "I can do that with a kitchen knife" ... untill that guy came walking in and lay on the table... and I was like "Oh!" ;P

  • Holy crap!!! I bow to him... i was so scared for that guy

  • 0:52 to skip nuts in a neckerchief

  • well the word "master" is his title

  • The Real Yoda

  • Dull sword?

  • @corruptiongovernment So long as you don't withdraw the sword it won't cut the guy. It's probably not fully sharpened though.

  • @StargateMunky how can a dull sword slice through an apple dumb ass?

  • @PakDaeHan not that it's fucking retarded to respond to something 4 MONTHS old but you clearly are too fucked in the head to know ANYTHING about how a sword works. you can EASILY chop through a piece of fruit.

and it's YOU'RE you cretin....learn some basic spelling troll

  • @PakDaeHan fucking physics..how does that work? you cant explain THAT!

  • @corruptiongovernment if it was dull, will it cut the apple so smoothly. twice?

  • @corruptiongovernment Not exactly - swords aren't meant for a laser edge like in stories or movies - there are no metals no matter how forged that are immune to nicking from bone - it only takes a pound of pressure from a sword to cut skin, and many swords are actually fairly dull compared to kitchen and pocket knives. Tales of Japanese swords being testing on floating silk are true - but these blades were often for a smith's test of skill, not battle use - you'd break when cut through armor

  • @corruptiongovernment Probably not, this guy's a pro
