when you take the plug off of the bottom of the filter, does that mean it will automatically run out in 8 hours or can you leave it without it wasting air?
@TheTomWarp the filter will only 'run out' while it's being exposed to contaminants. I don't think just opening for a few minutes will have any affect. I always put the plug back in when I am done with it, and I've only worn it for a few minutes at a time.
@Cryogenixnet that's the problem! I don't know what size it is. I ordered it from amazon.com and it came in a box with no size info. My guess is that I use a size 3 or 4, as I have another Russian mask in size 3 and it fits like a glove.
@Cryogenixnet from what i understand, the filter will only 'use up' when it reacts to toxic substances in the air. though the substances in the filter will gradually break up over time
@priceman141 the activated carbon starts to loose effectiveness the second it hits oxegen. the plastic nato filters give you about 8 hours and the metal OD israeli or finnish filter which is what you have only lasts about 6 hours. IDF special forces filters last 16. Avoid the following masks as they are all ineffective
Russian M-10, M-41, Russian SMS, M9 or M9A1, M-10-M and GP-5 masks, Canadian M69, Czech M10M, East German masks and the French/Belgian ANP M51 and Hungarian civilian respirator
Yea, whenever I first got the mask I didn't remove that plug on the filter. I was just like WHY THE FUCK CANT I BREATHE?? I didn't put it on with the filter for a looong time, till i found out i was supposed to remove it.
thanks for the video really helps for when i get my gp-5 cheers

@ryanmarshall96 All filters made after the 60's are safe, doesn't matter if it's big or small.

@livin45g whatever size it is, it's too small for my head, so I'll probably sell it locally, eventually.

@priceman141 It looks like a child sized mask. Most of the gray colored masks I've seen tend to be child size. I could be wrong though.

running it under hot water works better than a milk jug, then put on and let cool, just dry it off before storing to prevent mildew.
