DSNY Supervisors can only write summonses to people parked illegally on alt. side days or at parking meters during street cleaning regulations. What the fuck is a sanitation cop? Like, are they looking for people tapping their shoes in stalls? I'm bothered by anyone parking in front of hydrants & lame-people parking stalls, but more so with not knowing what the hell a sanitation cops job is exactly :S
For example, one may be excused for parking in the middle of an intersection (civil violation) to arrest a fleeing burglar (misdemeanor or felony), but not for breaking down a locked door (misdemeanor or felony) to issue a traffic ticket (civil violation).

You're wrong about that. I have a concealed carry license, and to get it I had to take a class about the use of force. If I believe my life or the life of someone else is in imminent danger, no matter where I am, I have the legal right to confront it using lethal force. IE if someone charges at me or someone else present with a tire iron preparing to hit me in the head with it, I can give them a double tap.
Looks like they parked out from the curb to give a fire engine room. There need only be room to connect the fire hose (they do stretch a ways). The truck does not have to be directly in from of the hydrant in an emergency.

If you feel that you need to go out with a camera and film cops then film the cops with guns and and catch them doing something wrong. Don't leave anything out, make sure you catch both sides of the story before you put out your side that's all I'm saying shiferbrain.
Even if the cop has a "side to the story". It is still illegal. If someone is driving an expecting mother about to give birth and breaks the law, the cops give them a ticket. NO EXCEPTIONS!

I cant remember the last time i got a ticket for blocking a hydrant. I am very careful.About 10 years ago I got a hydrant ticket, I thought I was far enough away.The ticket said I was 12 feet away when I should have been 15 feet away.

What the fuck is a sanitation cop? Like, are they looking for people tapping their shoes in stalls? I'm bothered by anyone parking in front of hydrants & lame-people parking stalls, but more so with not knowing what the hell a sanitation cops job is exactly :S

Theoretically, no law enforcement officer is any more entitled to break any law than any civilian.
The only time a law may be broken without penalty is during the apprehension of someone for the commission of a more serious offense.
These are prioritized as follows:
1) Capital crimes such as murder
2) Other felonies
3) Misdemeanors
4) Civil violations

For example, one may be excused for parking in the middle of an intersection (civil violation) to arrest a fleeing burglar (misdemeanor or felony), but not for breaking down a locked door (misdemeanor or felony) to issue a traffic ticket (civil violation).
The only exception accepted by the courts has been that, when arresting a felon, police officers may be allowed to initiate the use of force as a defensive measure (ie brandishing a weapon before being threatened with one).

A civilian could only do that on his own property in defense of an incursion by the suspect. If not on your own property, you could not use force until confronted by its use, and then you could not escalate the level of force above that with which you are met. (If the suspect punches you, you can hit him back, but you can't pull a knife; If he comes at you with a baseball bat, you can't shoot him.)

You're wrong about that. I have a concealed carry license, and to get it I had to take a class about the use of force. If I believe my life or the life of someone else is in imminent danger, no matter where I am, I have the legal right to confront it using lethal force. IE if someone charges at me or someone else present with a tire iron preparing to hit me in the head with it, I can give them a double tap.

Looks like they parked out from the curb to give a fire engine room. There need only be room to connect the fire hose (they do stretch a ways). The truck does not have to be directly in from of the hydrant in an emergency.

If you feel that you need to go out with a camera and film cops then film the cops with guns and and catch them doing something wrong. Don't leave anything out, make sure you catch both sides of the story before you put out your side that's all I'm saying shiferbrain.

Even if the cop has a "side to the story". It is still illegal. If someone is driving an expecting mother about to give birth and breaks the law, the cops give them a ticket. NO EXCEPTIONS!

you understand the separation of powers. The cop should follow them to the hospital and issue the speeding ticket there, so as not to delay the emergency transportation. It is then up to the judge to dismiss it on grounds of a valid reason for committing the violation. If the cop doesn't issue the ticket, he is playing judge.

omg i was using that as an example if you want something specific then lets say, some one is running away from a hitman and is chasing him and he runs out of gas so he leaves his car in the middle of an intersection and the victim gets a ticket when he looses the hitman and comes back to his car.... happy? geez

First of all if she has a side of the story, it doesnt matter because she is just a parking enoforcement officer not a "go and arrest the bad guys" cop. shes not going to put the sirens for a double-parked person. Second of all the police dont care about what a citizen's situation or "side of the story" (as you said) is. They'll give you a ticket and wont care. Also stop commenting there is a reason it has a limit...

There might have been a vehicle parked in that space behind her when she pulled up. If there wasn't a vehicle there when she pulled up then she just a plain Scofflaw.

Ok I see. However the law is still 15 feet away not 12. Easy way to beat the ticket take pictures show it to the judge ticket dismissed. Always works for me. Again they might belong to the same union as the Traffic Agents, but I ask you when was the last time you got or saw a Sanitation officer giving out a ticket for something besides a Sanitation related issue? In my case I've never seen it. They are the last people you need to be getting on. But stick it to Traffic Cops all day Jimmy!!

I cant remember the last time i got a ticket for blocking a hydrant. I am very careful.About 10 years ago I got a hydrant ticket, I thought I was far enough away.The ticket said I was 12 feet away when I should have been 15 feet away.

The only thing sanitation police do is enforce the sanitation law. You'll get a ticket if you block street sweepers for no good reason as well you should. I've had my car battery die on me, was out there with my car and had the hood up, which you are suppose to do. The Sanitation cop said ok and kept going. Sanitation cops aren't nasty. So tell me Jimmy Justice what traffic laws are Sanitation suppose to enforce?

Ah ok I'm not on the cop's side, I have gotten my share of made up tickets from nasty traffic agents. I've beat them all cause the reasons they are handed out are flimsy. One problem that was a Sanitation cop. They don't issue tickets for blocking hydrants, she's not a traffic agent.

actually sanitation officers do issue parking tickets, although they usually issue alternate side tickets, but they can issue any type of parking ticket.The sanitation and traffic enforcement have the same union, cwalocal-1182.
