you would think in this day and age of vampire shows and movies they would plan to resurrect the series, but they are making a movie...hmmm a new cast for a series maybe? i hope so!!!
@careerwoman062000 What was unfortunate was that this show aired during the Gulf War so there was numerous rescheduling in airing the episodes on TV because of Gulf War reports and updates. Due to all the rescheduling of episodes, no one ever got a chance to watch so ratings and viewings plummeted resulting in cancellation which was a pity since this show had so much potential. Too bad they couldn't bring it back after the Gulf War had ended. I too loved Barnabas and Victoria as well.
@careerwoman062000 I don't think the series is coming back, but Tim Burton is directing a new Dark Shadows film staring Johnny Depp as our favorite vampire and Helena Bonham Carter as Julia Hoffman. I heard that Victoria will be the reincarnation again in this upcoming film as well which makes me happy.
@artemisnightdreamer Yes that is what i was referring to when i mentioned that the series will be returning. Johnny Depp would make an odd vampire. I hope he can portray a seductive determined vampire.
i watched them too, and loved them and couldnt wait to the next time they were on every week and cried when they werent on any more. it seems like all they have mostly on tv now a days is stupid reality tv those show are so stupid.
@madapopi26 I know! Blame the Gulf War! Episodes of Dark Shadows had to be rescheduled because of Gulf War reports on TV! I don't know why they couldn't have just brought the show back after the Gulf War was over because NBC received 50,000 letters in protest when the show was cancelled.
i know. i was told that they were going to go in the second season with the Phonex, and they were going to have Laura come back! this was a better show. I have all the tapes.
Just in case my comment was overlooked; Tim Burton will be directing Dark Shadows as a film for 2011/ 2012. Shooting begins This April with the likes of Johnny Depp, Eva Green and Michell Pfieffer just to name a few...You don't believe me?! Google it, You will be surprised and excited at the same time...it looks like twilight will be getting replaced as the must see vampire film. Dark Shadows returns! Finally!! I am hoping for a fall release for this one. What about all of you?
Is this the ending? ????? . . .. I saw this movie when I was very young. I wanted to see how it ended, so I'm watching it again. Is this how the movie ends?
@iluvmmd blame nbc for the cancellation and no 2nd season! But there is good news! Tim Burton has taken on the task of turning DARK SHADOWS into a movie...filming begins in April, People has already been cast for the major roles. Johnny Depp will play Barnabas Collins, Michelle Pfieffer will play Elizabeth Collins Stoddard, Jackie Earle Haley will play Willie Loomis, Eva Green will play Angelique and the actress who played queen of hearts in Alice in Wonderland 2010 will play Dr. Julia Hoffman!
Yes, this show was so well done. The casting was brilliant. I was obsessed with the show as a child and awaited the revival series with great anticipation....I was devastated when they canceled it. Rewatching all the episodes just proves to me what a mistake that was!!! All the crap that was on tv at the time and they cancel a quality show like this!!! I bet if it were on tv today it would be a HUGE hit! Of course, they blamed it on the Gulf War!
I now remember why I was furious in 1991. They left us with so many questions. This was a popular show. It had a huge following. Not continuing the series had left me embittered about a lot of the dumb sitcoms that followed, or the sex-driven mini series that always turn out the same plot. I have never followed a mini-series that faithfully, or that closely again. I'm glad these were posted. At least I can enjoy the show that caught my attention, and my heart, again.
This is one of the best cliffhangers I've ever watched. I remember watching it on TV and thinking that I couldn't wait for the second season. What a letdown by NBC! When I think of all the junk that manages to survive for multiple seasons on network TV it disgusts me. If a show isn't a sitcom full of dumb, juvenile humor or a "drama" with bed hopping and graphic sex scenes, it doesn't have a chance.
@hnb1113 Could not have said it better myself...NBC and the networks are a disgrace. This show was too good for them.
For whatt it is worth.. According to Dan Curtis... Victoria was going to faint after she saw Barnabas to open the second deason and have no memory that he was a vampire.
OMG!! And that was it??!! I wish they would have continued this remade series - I would have LOVED to see what would have happened next!! Thank you so much for posting. I really enjoyed it, especially the look back into the 1700s. :)
OMG I watched all the 12 episode nonstop LOL....I really had a great time needed to take my mind off from some things, and really helped me. Thank you so much for uploading them!!! I just wish the ending was a little bit better. :-)
Hmm I didn't know about Paul Stoddard and Betty.....learn something new everyday I guess.......But you are right Victoria Winters' life story is still pretty much a mystery. Maybe Moltke should write a book or two the way Lara Parker did about Angelique
Funny thing... Victoria Winters' origin was the first and central mystery of Dark Shadows. That was intended to be addressed in the original series. But due to unforeseen circumstances... 44 years, 1225 episodes, 2 movies and a miniseries later... Vicky's origins are still as much a mystery as when she said "My name is Victoria Winters" for the first time, in 1966.
@sbergman27 I thought (and I might be wrong) that at least in the original run of the show they had a storyline where Vicky was Elizabeth's illegitimate daughter and that money was sent each month to her from Bangor, Maine. Then when she was 18 she got a letter from Elizabeth offering her the job as governess at Collinwood
@Silas420Botwin Originally, they had planned to (eventually) reveal that Victoria was an illegitimate daughter of Paul Stoddard by a girl named Betty Handscombe. But the resemblance between Moltke and Bennett caused them to decide to make her a daughter of Elizabeth. But Moltke left the show on maternity leave, was tired of playing an angelic virgin, and Curtis was unwilling to let her get possessed by a demon and go on a murderous rampage. So she didn't come back, and the opportunity was lost.
i wish they would have finished after vicky goes back to the right time. does she still continue to be with barnabas???? it would have been nice to know what she decided
I couldnt believe this series wasnt given a chance to succeed. I watched it the first time and now again, and I am not ashamed to say I cried both times when littlw Sarah dies.
nooooooooooo i want to see the rest! ;(
