Sure he was German...his mother was actually Prussian...but his father was a military man so Dee Dee grew up in Germany til he was 14. I got to know them fairly well (I was at this taping!!!) and heard through my "sources" that Dee Dee was part Chinese but he didn't like talking about it.

@SirHatchporch NO, Marky was never "ordered" to be silent...he was actually rather shy and didn't like it when he was "put on the spot" as the saying goes. Marky is a very funny dude tho and at this time period (1981) no one in the band was fighting with each other...that came later on in 1983 when the whole Johnny & Linda scandal was finally exposed. He also may have been quiet a lot cuz he was usually drunk! LOL.

Joey lived in a tiny one room apt on 9th street, Johnny lived in a Studio on 10th, Marky lived on John St. in the wall st area and Dee Dee lived in a basement apt. in Whitestone, Queens. Also "Baby I Love You" was sung by Ronnie Spector and the whole album "End of the Century" was produced by the nut Phil Spector. Joey & Ronnie played many gigs together in his later years.

I have a picture of them together at a Rattlers gig from Dec of 81. Johnny had a girlfriend named Roxie (Cynthia) at the time too. Johnny & Linda may have been sneaking around together, but none really knew about it till 1983. After a gig at L'amour East in Queens, Johnny got beat with baseball bats. By who? No one knows.

It's weird that Johnny and the band talks about staying true to their original ideals and concept when in fact they were veering off the path themselves around this time. "Pleasant Dreams" sounds nothing like "Leave Home" ya know.

I think it was moreso that Johnny was getting pissed at the interviewer asking questions, he would give a real answer and she would just ignore it and move onto something lame like how Joey couldn't see from behind his bangs. I would also roll my eyes, especially since they went over the whole hair thing already.

They adopted the 50's young rebel's look style cause they wants to started their music with rock and roll roots, like Rockabilly, but they took their own way to make rock music playing fast and hard songs. And the result was punk rock's music formula followed for many mid and late 70's young rock bands. Some of them already formed like Sex Pistols and other started like Buzzcocks or The Clash.
when the interviewer named the song "The KKK took my baby away", Johnny started to laugh... Perhaps he remembered than Joey wrote that song inspired about he and Lynda (his wife and Joey's exgirlfriend) relationship?
OK so this is the Tomorrow Show w/o Tom Snyder. Snyder had on the Clash, PiL, the Jam, the Runaways and stuff, and finally the Ramones get the call and Tom is on vacation. Funny when Jhon is like "we wanted to argur w/ him" (like some of those other bands did) I read that she admits that she never heard of the band before the cameras roll. I went with a 40 year old woman & her 16 yr old daughter and they knew the Ramones well. We were all pissed Tom wasn't there either!!! So, during the next guest's interview all 4 of us decided to scream out "HEY HO, LET'S GO!" and boy you should've seen how fast security freaked out!! LOL They didn't throw us out tho thank god & Joey loved the prank!

He was older than them, had re-arranged who played what, and also had a hand in writing a lot of the songs for the first 3 albums. Give the man credit for helping to create the best punk band ever! I met Tommy countless times and he's a real sweetheart. Great producer too, he even worked at Electric Ladyland (Jimi Hendrix's studio).

watching that interview just makes me sad I wasn't around to enjoy their music when it happened. I saw the Ramones Documentary and the Tribute Concert for Johnny Ramone and it's opened my eyes to how important this band is to Music. Right now my favorite song of theirs is Today Your Love, Tomorrow The World.
There were actually 7 (8 if you count clem burke, who played briefly as Elvis Ramone). Three of them (Tommy, Marky, and Richie) were drummers and two (Dee Dee and CJ) were bassists. They all quit for various reasons (production, alcoholism, rap careers, etc.)
I was in the audience!!! Seriously, I was there and it was amazing cuz that interviewer was complete hell and I love how Johnny grabs Marky's Nervous foot. I was right in the front row and only 12 years old! Ramones Forever!!!!!
She's means eclipsed commercially. The Ramones were a great band, but so were Blondie - they were just very different. Branching out into different types of music doesn't mean that you're compromising you're integrity, as Johnny seems to think. Johnny is very uptight, but Joey loved Blondie, and everyone in Blondie loved The Ramones.

Yeah yeah... I'm gonna hold my hands up and admit that the Ramones weren't as much as a commercial success as Blondie. But I still maintain that the Ramones were the much better band and that if you look at record sales over the years (not chart success) that the Ramones wil prove to be the better selling band over time.

OK so this is the Tomorrow Show w/o Tom Snyder. Snyder had on the Clash, PiL, the Jam, the Runaways and stuff, and finally the Ramones get the call and Tom is on vacation. Funny when Jhon is like "we wanted to argur w/ him" (like some of those other bands did) I read that she admits that she never heard of the band before the cameras roll. Very good interview, thanx for posting . Might be helpful to tag w/ "tomorrow show", 'cuz fans might be looking for it after reading about it (I was...).

@LetsGoMetsGo33 You are one of the only commentators on here that makes any sense!!! I was at this taping with 3 friends!!! I was 12 years old. I went with a 40 year old woman & her 16 yr old daughter and they knew the Ramones well. We were all pissed Tom wasn't there either!!! So, during the next guest's interview all 4 of us decided to scream out "HEY HO, LET'S GO!" and boy you should've seen how fast security freaked out!! LOL They didn't throw us out tho thank god & Joey loved the prank!

@invadernick5 - Yeah, he wasn't a true member. He was only the drummer for their classic albums and produced a few after that...oh, and he created the Ramones drumming style, too.

@mg196 If it wasn't for Tommy the Ramones would have never existed!!! Get your facts straight. He was older than them, had re-arranged who played what, and also had a hand in writing a lot of the songs for the first 3 albums. Give the man credit for helping to create the best punk band ever! I met Tommy countless times and he's a real sweetheart. Great producer too, he even worked at Electric Ladyland (Jimi Hendrix's studio).

so true, altho we do have Rancid today they just relised a new album but they have started getting on, but theres only a couple of good bands like: Rancid, Offpspring, The Casualties, Anti Flag, PennyWise, Arctic Monkeys
only a couple of good bands, but yeah, great bands like: Ramones, Sex Pistols, Clash, The Damned, Nirvana, Beatles, Rolling Stones, The Adicts, Stiff Little Fingers, Uk Subs ect ect

@powertourpro We do, their just not signed. I know cuz I'm in one. I realize it's not verry humble to push myself foward like this, but the music buisness do the same thing, they just do it with puting airbrushed posters of crap bands. I could name at some.

Yeah, just some guys similar. They don't have to try to imitate them or anything (like Avril Lavinge saying she was the Sid Vicious for a new generation; made me embarrassed to be Canadian). Just real music from the heart, the kind that you have to look underground to find.

watching that interview just makes me sad I wasn't around to enjoy their music when it happened. I saw the Ramones Documentary and the Tribute Concert for Johnny Ramone and it's opened my eyes to how important this band is to Music. Right now my favorite song of theirs is Today Your Love, Tomorrow The World.

There were actually 7 (8 if you count clem burke, who played briefly as Elvis Ramone). Three of them (Tommy, Marky, and Richie) were drummers and two (Dee Dee and CJ) were bassists. They all quit for various reasons (production, alcoholism, rap careers, etc.)

She's means eclipsed commercially. The Ramones were a great band, but so were Blondie - they were just very different. Branching out into different types of music doesn't mean that you're compromising you're integrity, as Johnny seems to think. Johnny is very uptight, but Joey loved Blondie, and everyone in Blondie loved The Ramones.

Yeah, I hear what you're saying.. and yes.. Blondie were a bloody great band. But, if you look at overall sales... the Ramones will always outsell Blondie. Commercially and artistically the Ramones will always be the better band.

No. Blondie are one of the biggest bands in the history of pop music and have had a rake of number 1 hits, while the tragedy of the Ramones was that they never had the commercial success they deserved. As for artistry, Blondie were and are extremely musical and eclectic, and even introduced hip hop to a wide audience. I love both bands. The Ramones made great music by drawing on their limitations, while Blondie made great music by insisting on transcending limitations.

Yeah yeah... I'm gonna hold my hands up and admit that the Ramones weren't as much as a commercial success as Blondie. But I still maintain that the Ramones were the much better band and that if you look at record sales over the years (not chart success) that the Ramones wil prove to be the better selling band over time.
