  • wow she is incredible! what we had then was precious. brings me right back to 1971 again. I was only 15. God bless Marilyn and the 5th Dimension always! nothing compares today I'm sorry.

  • great quality. What a voice

  • Yes many of the singers of today need to realize that less is more. They oversell and use way too many vocal acrobatics which makes them appear that they are showing off, not feeling the music. Marilyn McCoo always had a pure, beautiful and musical voice and this tune is fantastic.

  • Club dogo - Serpi

  • One Great Diva! Real Talent!

  • This version is the one I heard first--the Association's version is far weaker by comparison to it.

  • oh gosh.

  • Woah never knew 5th dimension did this too. I love the Association + 5th Dimension im happy to hear both versions. Plus my dad love Marilyn McCoo.

  • I like this version just a bit better than the Association. Close though.

  • Great voice, great sound, great singer what more can you ask for? This is what love should be, Forever. Well some of us are lucky and some are not......

We need to redifined Love vs Lust..Our obligation to our chidren is for life. They

always need their parents side by side. Thats the commited you made to yourself, God and to those children to be born. Something to think about

    before having xxx.

  • one of the best songs of all time!

  • I wouls have loved to hear a colaberation between marylyn and susan carpenter

  • The Association released this song first in 1967.

  • Jake La Furia - Serpi

  • The Fifth Dimensions version was the first and best version of this song...

  • Wow, they did a version of this, too. Nice. I never heard this until right now! Where was YouTube when I was 5 yrs. old?

  • @jaydee624 The Association was first. I love this cover! But I like the original the most! There was also a good cover by "har mar superstar". All are great, one of the best songs of all time!

  • This was on their Live Album...I thought it was awesome

  • SERPI

  • Original is the best

  • The Association's version was better i thought.

  • Awesome

  • Marilyn McCoo has a golden voice, what a talented singer....and I saw her recently and she looks like she found the fountain of youth, she looks gorgeous for a woman her age

  • Never N8 ~ Never ever will I grow tired of you!!

  • @82sweetheart

How sweet! Thank you 82! Same here.

  • What a Beautifull performace by one of the greatest Artist of time..Marilyn McCoo is flawless.. If you lived in the era between 1964-1972 you would simply be amazed of the Gift God gave us with the incredible music..This is not only music its Talent and Heart and definatly soul.. Marilyn you deserved so much more but i think in time you have earned your place in Music History and the group as well..

  • My dearest Anngail, the love of my life...your Donny

  • search for Club dogo - Serpi ( they have sample this song)

  • This tune was on their live album at the time and was released as a single to take advantage of the fact. Applause was added to make it sound live.

  • sounds like the applause has been added to this...

  • a bit too much, with some mis-spellings and such, but thanx for crediting the group.

  • Yes I always thought the high note Marilyn sings is "with you"

  • Note: It sounds to me as if there are a couple of words missing from the displayed lyrics.

When Marilyn belts out the high note toward the end of the song -- "I want to be ..." -- what I hear are the words "with you," not just "I want to be ... oooh."

  • @FurtherReview I always thought those notes at the end of "Save the Country" are unusual but not knowing enough about the technicalities of music you have enlightened me. Other favorites of mine by them are from the "Loves Lines" album:

"Guess Who" and "Viva Tirado" have some great harmonies. There are so many it is difficult to pick them. "Sky and Sea" from "Individually and Collectively" They definitely never got the respect they deserved.

  • @9ballguy Well, I'm no musical expert, just a guy who played trumpet in junior high, high school and college and played in a fairly successful local dance band.

The harmonies in the songs you named are certainly worth a listen, and you can add the song "Turn Around to Me" to that same list, particularly at the end where they're repeating "Turn a-rou-ou-ou-ound." Very unusual harmony. Ditto for "Living Together, Growing Together."

I could talk about "5D" all day, so I'd better stop now!

  • OH, beautiful love song!!! I loved!!!! thanks

  • Marilyn probably took singing lessons from the Angels before she came to earth.

  • @universalmessenger

Goodness arnt you just SMOOTH. :-)

  • 3@3=... w_ _u... :)

  • Nice, slow, and mellow.

  • Never heard this version till now. Not bad!

  • My wife and I married to this music. The best!!!

  • i was very lucky to grow up with this music and would not change it for anything. simply perfect

  • this is so beautiful.

  • WOW can you imagine GROWING UP with music like this HOLY MOLY what a great experience that would be!! oh yea ....I DID!

  • Should be required viewing for all the little pop tarts of today - Mariah, Beyonce, Christina, whoever. THIS is singing. You guys have no clue.

  • @whonjectr

Amen, people like Miley, Britney, Jobros, Hilary Duff, and many other recording "artists" have no talent whatsoever. Their "singing" voices are computer enhanced.

This is real music all the way

  • @whonjectr

LOL, they could look at it all day long, but they couldn't get there. Marilyn's voice was so smooth and effortless. She didn't try to sing, she just sung. What she has can't be mixed in a studio.

  • @whonjectr Bizarre for a comment like this to get so many thumbs up! I'm not a fan of any of the singers listed but Beyonce and Mariah are world class singers and performers. Can't tell you how much I dislike listening to bland insensitive interpretations like this. Technically she isn't even that good.

  • @Arsenogenics Don't confuse the faux gospel style popular today of cramming as many notes into each word as you possibly can, with talent. I'll take bland any day.

  • @whonjectr That's my point and apologies for disagreeing with you. I'm referencing this song because I'm arranging it. Didn't even know this version existed. The out of tune original of the Association blows this version away. By the way you're completely incorrect if you think that modern singers can't sing this blandly. Anyone with a mild talent can. Cary and Beyonce are better singers technically. How they choose to sing is their choice [not my cup of tea either].

  • @Arsenogenics This rendition and Marilyn McCoo are both awesome!!!! It sounds the way it does because it is the sound of the 60's, a different era and sound from today's music. Listen to her voice and recognize true talent, not autotunes. Also listen to "one less bell", and Age of Aquarius. Simply beautiful!!!!!

  • @gamergirl464 I was unfamiliar with this version and simply making ridiculous gushing statements about something doesn't make it true. I've listened. It's not great. I'm not interested in comparing it to today's music just correcting some misguided comments about who is and isn't a good singer. Awesome mebollix.

  • @whonjectr perhaps... but calling someone a pop tart no fair no nice didnt you learn that in kindergarten??

  • WOW! awsome

  • Marilyn McCoo's voice is a gift from God.

  • Marilyn McCoo's voice is like the trilling of a million bells...my God, what an incredible singer!

  • @rightgirlhere She has a majestic voice since I can remember. Love her.

  • God, what a voice. Smooth as satin. I only wish the finale of the song could have played out longer before she delivers that amazing last note.

  • Marilyn's sustained soprano note ending this song is superb along with the fact that she sings it in full voice. Her range and power were very much evident in all of the Fifth Dimension's songs.

  • Great song.

  • Marilyn had quite a vocal range and she displays it on the last extended note of this song. She also holds that note in full voice. Not an easy task for a singer. Her vocal range and ability to sing in her upper register contributed greatly to the Fifth's sound. Not only with her vocal solos but with the background vocals also.

  • 9Ballguy, you have reinforced my faith in humanity with your comment.

  • @9ballguy I agree that Marilyn's silky-smooth high note at 3:20 is a showcase for her considerable talents. Another hallmark of the Fifth Dimension is that their arrangements displayed a high level of musical sophistication, with key changes (such as the one at 1:50), untraditional chords (as you'll hear on "Save the People") and so forth.

They were true artists, and as much as I like the Association's original hit, when it comes to my favorite version of this song ... I'll take the Fifth!

  • @FurtherReview Their arrangements did display a high level of sophistication. Songs that come to my mind as good examples are The Declaration Medley and Dimension Five from the "Portrait" album.

  • @9ballguy Yep, those are two good examples.

Another example is "Save the Country" -- toward the end they actually have the audacity to do what some people might refer to as "Far East chords" while singing the words "We can build a dream with love, I know."

I'm sure you're familiar with the part I'm talking about. Risky stuff for a mainstream pop group that, I'm convinced, never got the respect it deserved.

  • Marilyn McCoo is perfection. Could listen to her sing 24/7. Loved the 5th Dimension.

  • The Association might have the better of the two, but they don't have Marilyn.

  • Association might be the better of the two, but Marilyn's voice is so wonderful.

  • Association may be the better of the two, but I do love Marilyn's voice.

  • I love this version as much as "The Association"'s. Beautifully sang by the lovely Marilyn.

  • Really? *sigh* Such sweet promises

  • Beautiful Lyricism..........

  • McCoo did a great job on the lead vocals and the rest of the group did great as well.

  • I can't believe the Association's version of this song charted higher. Marilyn McCoo's voice -- so beautiful, so much more effective. My favorite Fifth Dimension song of all time -- I could listen to it all day. Thanks for posting this gem, "Journey"!

  • I like the 5th dimention but the associations is better.

  • I agree. Association's was simplier and not too angelic if you dig what I'm saying.

  • Which version came first ?This one or the one by The Association?

  • i think the association...

  • @journey2earth They're both great, this one is smokin'.

  • the Association did of course since they were the group that 1st sang this tune, they had the rights of release first........although the 5th/ did a banged up job with their version as this version. both such songs of beauty and soul from their hearts..............

  • Association

  • @jaydee624 The Association was first, around 1966 I believe.

  • @jaydee624 the association, they wrote and published the song in late 1967. Although this is such a beautiful tune, whomever sings it , it will sound good!!!

  • The Association wrote and performed the original version.

  • @jaydee624 Listen to the two. The original is obviously The Association.

  • @jaydee624 The association.

  • @jaydee624 The Fifth dimension's version was the first

  • i love marilyn McCoo

  • ..thanks for sending and sharing this musicvid..really nice of you.more power.
