@rhianemoss basically the story is about a girl from a formerly rich family ( poor due to useing their money to help the poor during a disaster many years ago ) that gets invited into the harem of the emperor. Reason is because the man named Shou realized the main girls potential in helping the emperor. The emperor apparently ignores his duties and lazes off, he hires her to help him do his duty, but hides it by proclaiming the job is to be a concubine

Yeah, but the life style there is almost like China but the author declares it is completely the fantasy, and she doesn't know Chinese history at all. People there look up sakura, eat rice balls, take a bath like Japanese. Permitting impossible inconsistency is a great point of anime. Also in Dragon Ball Chinese people are very tolerant, not like Korean.

@puppiez1234 it's actually more of a historical fiction anime, more than romance or comedy. the anime only has two seasons but there's also mangas. the mangas, however, are based off of japanese light novels, of which there are 17 books. the last one just came out in the end of july '11, so both the manga and anime have a long way to go to catch up, but they may also change the intent or direction of the series to suit it's media type and audience better. it all depends.

@Smileygirl1ish concubine is an old-fashioned, somewhat polite term for a prostitute...concubines are really high-class though and usually belong to monarchs. Most times they are pretty highborn themselves as in royalty.
