If this ever does get released I would love to see it become so popular it brings an interest in updating more old titles. I've got it all figured out: Black Mesa Source has a firm, locked release date, it's totally going to happen, no backsies, and then BAM! a week before that Valve surprises everyone by releasing Half Life 3 and the Black Mesa team announce that instead of ironing out the last few bugs and releasing the version they've got, they'll now divert their efforts to recreating Half-Life using HL3's engine.

I don't like to be overly optimistic about things, but I honestly do see a plausible release date for 2012. I've lurked on the forums for a while now, and it seems like Black Mesa is basically done. The devs have already said that it's playable from start to finish; their work now is basically touching it up and working on Xen. Can't wait! And if not, I hope my grandchildren at least will love Black Mesa.

Its almost as though they will have to start from scratch too, because there is no basis from which to work. I cannot wait for this release though. Half life was 2 years late.
