Amazing! Cornell is deeply missed, but always lovingly remebered. You know it´s a seriuos groove happening when Gordon Edwards is standing up after the piano break. Just look at his face 3:06, that´s someone who knows he´s got it going on. :D
To continue, the band had a great career with the help of my partner Frank Yandolino! He had more patience than one can imagine. sadly Eric Gale, Richard Tee and Cornell Dupree are no longer with us, but STUFF will be a part of music history forever, and I am proud to have been there from the beginning!
A great drummer Herb Lovelle and I struggles for many nights at Mikell's to turn these incredible studio musicians into a great band. Michael Lang and I signed them to Warner Brothers and their first album was produced by Tommy LiPuma, engineered by Al Schmitt with assistance from Jesse Henderson and Gil Markle at legendary Longview Farm - we had to take them out of New York City so that they could make the LP - The T-shirts were designed by my good friend Phil Wineman!

The club mentioned below was Mikells- 97th Street and Columbus Avenue. On any night Stuff was there, it became a place where this band made time stand still. (And there were lots of other legendary jazz acts that played there too. It was not unusual to sit one table away from famous actors, musicians and writers in the audience as well).
OMG I love this!!!Ii use to waitress at a club in NYC Mikales on 96th st. When the piano solo started we stopped serving. David Baldwin, yes James Baldwins brother, the best bartender ever, went nuts to this solo we all did!! Still as cool today as back in 78. I am so glad to have my Stuff groove back!! They were so tight!

Throw a few studio musicians together, let them make music that isn't sold by the companies, let them to have fun and see what they can do without any marketing gimmicks...
For all of you folks out there that LOVE odds and ends and how it enriches our lives.... meet the Funkiest Band that NO one has heard of...

Gordon Edwards (Bass) was actually the one who put the group together and if you watch the montreaux concert he actually directs the band, issuing cues, etc. SUPREME band, and Edwards is no different, amazing bassplayer!
Nick you are correct it start intially wheh he hiored Cornell to play agig in brooklyn. Eventually the band atarted playing a Mikell's on the uppwer west side backing up ester marrow. Back in the mid to late 70's they were the most sort after session muscians, playing for a whose who of artist. Saw many a show by them.
I was so lucky to be a waitress there then!! Dam i loved that band, when richard started the solo we stopped serving drinks! We all just dug the moment!! Is that bar still there. Were they all in One Trick Pony with Paul Simon?
3 studio albums: Stuff More Stuff Stuff it 3 live albums: Live in New York Live in Japan Never re-released on CD) Live at Montreux (released CD only - 2008) just got it from Amazon last week 1 compilation The Right Stuff All other albums available Amazon or Ebay. Found a copy of the Live in Japan album on ebay 2 years ago, pristine condition for next t nothing & ripped it to CD.
Believe me when I say: Individually and collectively these musicians are among the best of the best. Stuff's sessions and performances on the east coast back in the day are legendary! Folks would line up for blocks to experience this group. RIP EG & RT.
You have to get in a time machine and go back to the 70s. Stuff was awesome indeed though. You can certainly still check out Steve Gadd's later stuff. I know Eric Gale and Richard Tee are no longer alive. Don't know about the others.
I was at this gig and have the whole thing on a cassette (remember those) I even still have my T shirt up in the loft somewhere that Richard Tee gave me. One of the great gigs that sticks in my mind. There must be a video of the whole thing as Claud always recorded everything.
