  • Nice demo, nice jamming. This reveals the ideal qualities of the solid mahogany that anchors the '59 LP. They had better choices available then, and dried the wood slowly. Are the ES-330's P-90's single coil or are those the stacked humbuckers? I'd like to hear the 330 with the '59's pickups installed. To the dipshits: If these kinds of guitars all sound the same to you because "it's just the distortion" then YOUR HEARING SUCKS. Fuck off and play your favorites and leave this to the adults.

  • Sweeeet!

  • Very nice playing Mr. Carpenter. I love to hear that the 330 sounds a little more dirty than the Paul. :-))

  • I vote for Gretsch. I'm a fanboy...

  • These demos go a LONG way proving that once you get up to the distortion level, its ALL about the amp. The guitar plays a very minor role as far as tone. Spend the money on the amp tone...almost any guitar will do the job.

  • Nice one...please join my social networking site for musicians: yoodoomusic

  • I love the section between 1:27 & 1:38!!!

  • man this sucks.

  • Nice demo. The coolest I've seen.

  • nice :D

  • yeah, I'm going with the ES-330 . . . more beefy, really sweet sounding. Nice demo, thanks.

  • They are similar but the les paul has a different bottom end sound On the 6th string chords etc

  • Both guitar and drums sound amazing!!

  • Either compare guitars w/ a clean sound too or just stop comparing all together please. These videos serve no purpose whatsoever other than showing "Hey look, my lil' amp can break up Ma."....... Fuck'n retards

  • @krishotsaucemiller

Well said ! absolutely no difference between guitars can be heard with this overdriven sound. Morons....

  • @boneypart actually i can hear a slight difference when he played the same opening riff with the two guitars at the beginning...very slight... think the hollow body gives a little more mid...or the LP has more treble...

  • You need to play the guitars clean to here how they sound. How many times do I have to say this?

  • Says who? Anyway, the volume on the amp is at 3.3. It's barely breaking up.

  • Yes is obvius!! When you compare a semi hollow with a solid body you need a clean sound because to sound different the hollow body needs clean!

  • @Johngtr13: Play your guitar as many times as you "have to say this" and then post your own demos.

  • I'm wondering.... which one of this beautiful guitar is more confortable to play?

  • Gua, thanks for the video. It's very difficult listen this comparations with these great guitars

  • ES-330 !

  • I would like to hear this demo through something like a Fender Super Reverb or Deluxe Reverb. I agree with a lot of the previous comments that this amp doesn't really highlight the differences.

Anyone have any experience with the ES-330L vs. a Revolution Casino? The only thing keeping me from the Revolution Casino is the tiny neck... If it only had the neck from my '61 RI SG...

  • Hey MyOldGuitars try to be more kind and professional when you reply to people that criticize your videos. I agree with the many people who think this video didnt get at all the point of showing the different tone of the two guitars... sue me for that now if you want -.-

  • Thank you for your opinion. My comment "You might want to do some fact checking" was in response to "Ever notice all the 'famous' guys that made the LP famous, moved on to other guitars as soon as they could afford to? If they stayed, it's because they got paid to do so."

  • lol so funny... pretty much everyone agrees... same tone .. sure there is subtle difference .... the Paul has a tighter sound but basically the same tone ,,, because of the amp used...

  • Who's the guitarplayer? The Belgian Philippe Catherine ?

  • The infamous Dave Carpenter.

  • I want that drummer in my band RIGHT NOW

  • well not all, look at jimmy page.

  • yep and also slash

  • You might want to do some fact checking.

  • What? the only idiots who talk shit about Les Pauls are people that 1) they can't afford one 2) can't play one and 3) don't know jackshit about guitars.

  • I owned a '60 Les Paul, it was the worst guitar I've ever owned sonically. It had a fine neck, but it sounded like shit. And, it weighed about as much as a boat anchor. Just a horrible, un-ergonomic design. Let's face it - if they hadn't shipped them to England and they were picked up by Clapton, Green and Page - nobody would want them. You can mouth off all you want, but that's the cold hard truth.

  • But there was a reason that Clapton, Page and Green picked them up. I'd hardly say that the lead on Whole Lotta Love or Clapton's tone on the Bluesbreaker album sound like shit. It sounds like you had a dog guitar!

  • @ih8thishit what do you think the most expensive and desirable solid body electric guitar is?

  • Dude, that drummer is playing balls out!!! Seriously-- just watch the drummer. You'd think his life was on the line!!! I love it.

  • I cannot hear the difference between both guitars. WTF???

  • Try clicking the "watch in high quality" link.

  • Neither can I....... and I pride myself on having a great ear ( hi end audio ). usually a hollow body sounds quite a bit different than a Les Paul .... but I could be wrong.

  • It's much easier to tell the difference when you have the EQ higher and you're pushing the amp higher, this guy didn't push it too much. You can here the obvious Les Paul bite here though

  • well, the hollowbody has kind of a compressed sound while the les paul clearly has more "bite".

  • Awesome groove

  • Could you please tell me how the drums were recorded? How many and what mics? and what other recording gear?

    Thanks

  • Guitar and drums sound great. I like the way the drums are tuned.

  • this is all abaut what you think is best

  • i think this part suited the es more with its brighter tone..that 59 sounds great though with its vintage vibe..good video..

  • Pathetic comparison... you need to use a clean sound....distorted a $200 LP copy with a decent pickup could sound close too...

  • You might check out some of our other videos. If our guitars still sound comparable to $200 LP copies, I would suggest getting better speakers. I can tell a difference on my Mac Book Pro and a bigger difference on my friends $99 Alesis powered monitors. At that price you could sell your $200 LP copy, buy a pair of monitors and still afford a strat copy. Then you'll have the authority to dispute our next video.

  • I wouldn't mind seeing the $200 LP copy that sounds like that. Your comment is ridiculous.

  • You guys must be dumb? My point is with a distorted sound you can hardly tell the difference between a semu accoustic and a solid body Gibbo. and a 2nd hand LP copy with a Duncan PAF would sound very close. Use a clean sound to compare them.

And my statement is an educated one since I have bu'lt some of the worlds best custom guitars, that are written up in books, as well as souped up LP copies and played many vintage Gibbos and Fenders

  • Once again Entertainment Central, your comments make little sense. If you think there is little difference between the way a semi acoustic and a solid body LP sound overdriven or distorted, then your comments truly do hold no merit.

As far as your experience, I find it hard to believe that someone with such vast experience as a guitar builder would make such a stupid comment. This conversation needs to go no further.

  • lmao exactly his point... they should sound different but this "comparison" doesn't show it up much and is therefore pathetic. In the end equipment doesn't matter much, as long as it's setup to play well, it's the person and spirit behind it. A quality amp and speakers will make a far bigger difference.

  • Please notice the WATCH IN HIGH QUALITY link. If a Gibson guitar through a Marshall amp with the gain just above 3 is still too much distortion for you, we have other videos using clean tones. Someone may just find something useful in the comparison of Vintage Gibson Les Paul and a new Gibson ES-330 through an overdriven amplifier. If someone wanted to play through a overdriven amp would you really tell them not to get a good guitar?

  • Es-330

  • Very cool series! I look forward to seeing more!
