When up above mountains that soon all look alike, how to find your way back to your own airfield? Maps/GPS/Dead Reckoning or by always knowing where you are by sight? Or is that ANY airfield will do, if you can find one?
Makos007 - Despite appearances, and with adequate training, it is actually VERY safe. modern gliders have many things going for them, most notably glide ratios typically above 40:1. The margin of safety when you are soaring near or above the mountain summits is huge...with an easy ability to make landings at a variety of airports or grassy fields within at least 50 mile. Things can, and do very occaisionally go wrong, but with common sense, it is a safe and fantastic sport.
Love the video. Hate that you covered up the beautiful sounds of soaring with (crappy) music.
