To all my Brothers in Arms past and present.....Never forgotten....January 5, 1968 - Operation Niagara I to map NVA positions around Khe Sanh begins. 20,000 NVA troops under the command of Gen. Giap attack the American air base at Khe Sanh. A 77 day siege begins as 5000 U.S. Marines in the isolated outpost are encircled.
Clearly this is a response to the grey alien epidemic happening at the time. Who is burning? Perhaps that was the sentiment at the time in this fascinating experiment called freedom, but perhaps he was talking about how the public response would be if in fact the government released all the files from its known cache of ufo and alien abduction cases from all over the world? Hmmmmm.....Fascinating!!!!!!!
Because all commercial radio in these United States is run like a business. Therefore, only the most "popular" songs get played because the stations don't see it as fiscally responsible to pay for the rights to many songs that weren't smash singles. Try calling in to request a "deep cut" from one of your favorite artists and they will more than likely tell you that they cannot play it.
From the Republican viewpoint, The enemy in this country went from communists to blacks to asians & other minorities to muslims to homosexuals.....always looking for a scapegoat for the nation's ills , but never themselves. Now they have all their media propaganda machines like Foxnews & Limbaugh to scare old people and the uneducated.
If you were old enough to understand the era of this music, and the messages these songs were about (CCR's "Fortunate Son", or CSNY's "Ohio"....these songs WERE political.
Plus, your'e telling me how to comment, and ithis isn't even your youtube channel.
@anonymousman555 Not sure what you mean by what you mean with youtube channel, but what i was saying was that if you think fox news and rush limbaugh are the propaganda flooding the brains of people, you have not thought hard about what the propaganda is that's flooding our brains. I get kind of pissed when southern moron conservatives take in CCR as their own, when they are really from California and a actually quite liberal...I'm liberal too, but I've loved their sound since I was a kid, but, what can you do....
@laxspanker1984 , CCR dubbed themselves "swamp rock", even though there aren't many swamps in California like there is in Florida, Lousiana, and Alabama. That's why southerners pick up on CCR.
@laxspanker1984 That's a pretty dumb statement even for a liberal. How about just enjoying the music like most people and not looking at it through your political microscope,,, moron.
It IS a political statement, dumbass. I hate to break it to you, but most rock bands were/are liberal. When you actually care about politics, society, and personal freedoms, it is hard not to be.
@Aporifos I didn't say ANYTHING, DUMBASS! Why don't you direct your DUMBASS comments to the person that made it, DUMBASS. 90% of people think they are of above average intelligence. You clearly fall among the 40% that are wrong, DUMBASS. And just because you are a liberal dumbass and you like their music or their lyrics does not mean that the band members share your dumbass politics, dumbass. They're selling damn good music and enjoying it not on your personal political crusade.
@laxspanker1984 Since its already recieved enough justice from other commenters, im not going to call you names...instead i will tell you how music shapes the people who listen to them. It is how CCR is connected with the south. Even though the beatles were from England, they were probably the biggest influence on modern culture in America. Oh and politics are constantly changing, there is no way to tell if they would support modern liberalism.
TOTALLY! People forget what a great guitarist Fogerty was--and still is. Instead of just shredding all over the place, he crafted these amazing solos with a lot of harmonic complexity--creating leads that actually SAY SOMETHING in the process. His chordal approach is much more along the lines of a guitarist like Bill Frisell (who, I suspect, learned a thing or two from listening to CCR when he was younger)
Last night I saw a fire burning on The palace lawn. O'er the land The humble subjects watched in mixed Emotion. Who is burnin'? Who is burnin'? Effigy. Who is burnin'? Who is burnin'? Effigy.
I listened to Gov't Mule cover too, they made it quite different and added some pieces from other Creedence songs. It's not bad, but it lacks some feeling and that crazy e note guitar sound. This is by far the best version. You can't compete with Creedence hehe
This is my favorite song! One of very few songs I would consider Perfect. If you like this one check out their song "walking on the water". CCR's got some Amazing songs.
This is one of the greatest protest/revolution songs ever written. The silent majority wern't keeping quiet anymore....remember Quan Duc? Who is burning? This song is timeless, and sadly...always will be...good luck folks...it's all coming back around. The Illuminati is listening....

@zekethefreak61 You're right. This, and several other amazing songs (Ramble Tamble, Keep On Chooglin', Bootleg, Feelin' Blue, etc) were left off both Chronicles albums! Okay, so Chronicles Vol 1 I understand due to the many top hits on that album, but I'm still surprised they were left off the 2nd!
I still have my vinyl LP, bought in 1971. This was always my favourite track, just touching out the brilliant 'Fortunate Son.' This song is spooky, musically and the way it taps into the darker side of man. Fogerty is an observer of humanity par excellence. The sledgehammer guitar chords in the playout send shivers up the spine to this day - this song is always on my list of 'best album closers'.
@cdjones19 Ramble Tamble definitely inspired some people! The lick that leads to the bridge has been copped many times! Stairway to Heaven comes to mind!
@Rightsideup too true. someone mentioned that the chord progression of the Clash's London Calling sounds like Walk on the Water. Now when I hear London Calling that's all I hear. No doubt Joe Strummer dug (or would have dug) John Fogerty. Probably my two all-time favourite musicians
We all know JP wasnot in CCR, doesnot mean he doesnot play well. To me he is one of the most influencial guitarplayers of this age, along with a lot of others, so calm down dude.
Totally agree! I first heard this covered by a band called Uncle Tupelo. I'm totally blown away by this tune now! It's probably my favorite CCR song! Just so good, and I love the political side of it!
whats with the assholes comparing page to fogerty, get real......these are ignorant comments as far as the ghosts of terrence mckenna and hunter thompson are concerned. music isn't a fucking contest, it's art or a expression of the spirit of man. this song is delicious. rings the cosmic bell in my book.
@fang666LSD I wasn't trying to compare Page to Fogerty. In fact, I have always idolized Fogerty and his abilities. I saw CCR twice in the early 70's, in Hawaii. And I have made more positive comments about CCR on YouTube than anyone else. It's just that some people have made negative remarks about Page, and I have always been in such awe of him. I'm a guitarist, and I still don't know how anyone on the physical plane can play like that. He's got to have some Yoda in him, somewhere.
@fang666LSD Right-fucking-on, man. Seems like all my life Ive been around people who wanted to play this heated, ignorant, lets-compare-all-musicians- to -eachother game. Im waaaay past "up to here" with it. Your comment says it perfectly in my book.
Jimmy Page played Led Zeppelin songs better than anyone. And John Fogerty played CCR better than anyone. Nice how that works out, huh?
This was one of my favorite CCR tracks back in the day, and that low E is how it sounds when you really lean on the bottom string of a 3/4 scale guitar. Awesome.
Dumbass; wait until the stinkin Muzzards come to burn YOUI because you don't bow down to allah (piss be upon him and may his skank ass burn in HELL! and PISS ON ANY STINKIN MUSLIM WHO DOESNT LIKE MY COMMENT!!@!!!!!!!
the reason why laws are made is to please the closed minded people. the reasons why they cannot take the opinions of people like me seriously is because of those who are so obvious to being a part of drugs that they cannot give us a fair say. the obvious people make it impossible to share what ideas there are behind hemp being a renewable resource you could save so much money on.... but insted they see a drug and a drug only cos of the obvious ones...and never see past their own fears and hate
This was and ismy favorite CCR song, it was my boyfriend Darby`s favorite song, not long after this was released he was murdered by one of his best friends, he had just helped him fix the engine on his car...I missed him then, I`ll miss Darby forever......R.I.P. Darby!

We all know JP wasnot in CCR, doesnot mean he doesnot play well. To me he is one of the most influencial guitarplayers of this age, along with a lot of others, so calm down dude.

I love this band but I had never heard this song till recently. Why is this not more popular? This song is one of their best!

@mrgimp420
Totally agree! I first heard this covered by a band called Uncle Tupelo. I'm totally blown away by this tune now! It's probably my favorite CCR song! Just so good, and I love the political side of it!

Rock on! Brother! this is an underated classic!

@mrgimp420 yes, but even the whole band never got that recognition they would have deserved!!

whats with the assholes comparing page to fogerty, get real......these are ignorant comments as far as the ghosts of terrence mckenna and hunter thompson are concerned. music isn't a fucking contest, it's art or a expression of the spirit of man. this song is delicious. rings the cosmic bell in my book.

Awesome.

Love the way Stu tweaks that bass note. Or else it was John, on his e-string? Awesome song- so soulful.

the reason why laws are made is to please the closed minded people. the reasons why they cannot take the opinions of people like me seriously is because of those who are so obvious to being a part of drugs that they cannot give us a fair say. the obvious people make it impossible to share what ideas there are behind hemp being a renewable resource you could save so much money on.... but insted they see a drug and a drug only cos of the obvious ones...and never see past their own fears and hate

This was and ismy favorite CCR song, it was my boyfriend Darby`s favorite song, not long after this was released he was murdered by one of his best friends, he had just helped him fix the engine on his car...I missed him then, I`ll miss Darby forever......R.I.P. Darby!
