  • I wouldn't want to water ski that fast lol

  • how much gas did ya burn?!

  • the old school mercs were loud love the sound of old school out boards

  • how much rpm at full thortle?

  • ouch my ears

  • @spechteful -- Ever hear of a little thing called volume control?

  • The old mercs were screamers!!

  • As a kid I remember seeing the "Tower of Power" on a boat and thought it was so cool. This is such an awesome video. 115 Stack Shaft !!! It just looks cool.

  • @paulforsberg -- Thanks for the compliment!

  • are these as powerful as todays 115 hp ?

  • @eeemanjam more powerful. hp was rated at the propeller instead of at the crank like new motors. can't remember the year that merc stopped under rating their hp

  • u outta gas haha my dad has that and its a awesome outboard but it does suck some gas

  • Nothing looks, smells, or sounds like the tower of power but, nothing runs like a deer

  • We only had a 50hp Merc made back in the 70's, but it was awesome. You could not kill it. One year we were having problems getting it to accelerate past idle consistently. We tore it down, and found 12 of the 16 reeds were broken clean off. I had no idea how this thing actually ran at all, but it did. Replaced the reeds, and it ran like new. Now that is dependable.

  • @crestlinersuperhawk

The old Yamaha motors weren't very good, no power and loud as well. .They couldn't touch a motor like this back then. That's why you don't see many out there. New one, yes there great...

  • love it, i have the same one.

  • @njrextreme

I've got 2 on my Whaler. Awesome motors. I was told to put a 4 blade prop rather than a 5 blade which I currently have. Would anyone be able to give me advice? I have no trouble getting to plain - it shoot out of the hole, but maybe I should be thinking about getting better mileage.

  • What a great motor, I have a '76 115hp on my 14ft Caribbean, straight 6 all the way its just an imposing looking and sounding beast. Old school Mercury rocks!!

  • @bluesmeisterr we just bought a caribbean cobra 16' with a merc tower-of-power 150, off it's head lol

  • i cant wait to get that very same 115 on my boat switching the 115 off my bass boat and putting it on my ski boat and putin the 80 on the bass boat there both tri hulls thank god

  • awesome engine (:

what is the fuel consumption of this engine?

  • I have a '79 115 Merc sittin in the yard on the back of a 16ft. Checkmate Trimate.

  • This is going back in time a bit lol. Used to have the 150hp version of this on the back of a 16 foot Fletcher Arrow that we used for water skiing. Brilliantly fast with a bronze two blade prop but god did it drink fuel.

  • Sounds awesome. Old mercs are the best.

  • I just bought a 1980 115hp tower of power and it rocks. I love the retro look with huge grunt pushin my 16ft runnabout around.

  • LOL LOL LOL StormMaiden07 I love your comment its so funny Neither does your spelling :-p I dont know how it is funny but it is to me Lol haha

  • @TheJayson8899 - Glad I could entertain you for a brief moment in time, lol :)

  • I was just looking at halo reach on you tube and then bang this came up.What the heck

  • @TheJayson8899 lol i was looking at black ops and this came up what the heck

  • Classic retro outboard

  • I got one but it needs a new starter lol

  • These are awesome. I have twin 115's on my 22' Whaler and its just moves baby!! Love the motors - always star and sound great.

A quick question; I need to replace my tilt & trim motor on one - can that be replaced without removing the motor?

Anyway - I am publishing a video today - I will call it Boston Whaler - 22' Revenge - Twin 115 Mercury - Tower of Power. Check it out and let me know what you think.

  • Blazer45567...Your an idoit that does not know shit about the tower of power Mercury 115. #1 Its a 2-stroke, so Ya! its going to be LOUD!!! so get a pair of earplugs or better yet grow a pair of balls, 2# these motors impaticular are the iconic symbol of the industry so in translation, they where the fastest most reliable and by far in my opinion, the most awsome looking motor ever. I could go on and on aout how great these motors are ut your not worth it. I happen to own one and it spanks all

  • @ThunderIceDude : Couldn't have said it better. Thanks man.

  • @ThunderIceDude UR RIGHT I GOT A 1985 115 HP MERCURY MOTOR IT ;LOAD BUT FAST FASTER THEN MY BUDS 165HP INBORAD SO LOVE THE MOTOR

  • I love my Tower of Power. I have a '69 1250 BP. She runs great, check my vid.

    Great Vid

  • I have a boat that i have to sell, but dont know anything about boats.....Its a i think 1998 or 2000 164 cayman flats boat with the tower, 1998 Mercury 115 hp & a Loadmaster trailer ....I need to find out a price range to ask for $....Thanks!

  • awesome. iv got one and i cant get it to run good like that.

  • loud but pretty cool what boat is that anyway? my dad needs to possibly get a outboard prooly a 4 stroke though who knows lol ?

  • loud, piece of poo

  • @blazer45567 -- If it's such a piece of sh*t, why are you watching?

  • @StormMaiden07 i was just looking around

  • I think it was Mercury that worked with Yamaha back in the early 90's to design the engine that was used in the Ford Taurus SHO.

Dad had a 70hp on the back of his deep V 17'. Good for trolling, plus it would still do 35 mph. Pulled two skiers no problems.

  • You just can't beat those inline six motors. The're awesome, look good too. By far my favorite engine design by Mercury.

  • This Mercury don't sounds god:P

  • @FlowOne16 Neither does your spelling :-p

  • @StormMaiden07 Haha, I know .. I come from Sweden you know!

  • @FlowOne16 What do you think a old motor like that is suposed to sound like?

  • @FlowOne16 Actually the motor sounds great!! Your English sounds bad. This video brought back some great memories. Thanks for adding this video Storm...Go Old School !!!!

  • I JUST bought a boat with a non running 115 tower of power on it. Unfortunately the previous owners overheated it...... but it will be in tip top shape in a week hopefully.

  • oh thats too bad =/ You can still find them around, and occasionally a nice boat, If your ever looking to buy.

  • nice boat! your going pretty fast! Looks like that motors faster than my dad's 175. yours sounds beautiful

  • @Peabody182 : Thank you. This is my uncle's boat, I filmed it. Unfortunately, he sold this boat with the motor on it. Stupid in my opinion because he worked hard to fix up that ol' motor. But what can ya do now? :(

  • I have one of these on my boat, Love them its an '81 and runs like a top. Does 40 all day with a 19ft boat and a 19 pitch prop.

  • Is that outboard like a 1972-73?

  • god damn i can here the needle bearing rattling from here.. shut her down

  • @electricpower71 I don't know what you think you hear but it's not needle bearings. LOL.

  • I have a 115 hp mercury on my 17 foot ski boat. it goes about 47 mph some days.

  • i got a 115hp on my 4.8 meter ski boat........... it goes awesome a great motor if u look after them........

  • Yeah she is!

  • wow man she's a beauty

  • I put a 90 tower of power on my 15' whaler ss and damnear shit my briches the first time I hit the throttle!

  • @spaxxxxd Let's tell it like it is. Right after you hit the throttle you went home took a shower and came back with different pants on.

  • @9878tubeyou It was fresh shorts actually, and man duzzzz that motor put a big shit eatin grin on my face when I rip 60 to 70 mph up or down the St. Johns river with it.

  • used to watch the Mercury test boats fly around the islands near Sarasota, FL back in the 60's those were the days, the 1100 was their biggest motor then

  • i have a 51 mercury mark,

    works fine

  • Nice sounding engine, and a Brill smooth lake!!

  • Anyone ever have any problem with the throttle assembly in these motors? I have a 77 merc 115, and the neautral rev handle likes to jump up when i throttle it up. Is that because its all hooked to the same cable?

  • Whats all the cavitation all about?

  • does oil come out during start up?

  • Hey, did you have to modify the very top of the cowl, where the faceplate butts up, to get the older faceplate to fit?

  • When I ordered my face plate off of eBay, the guy sent me the triangular shaped bracket that I just bolted to the top of the cowl.

  • Awesome. First boat I ever rode in was a Bonito 15 ft. I guess fitted with a '67 Merc 500 that ran awesome for 40+ years. I don't remember how it happened, but that boat had to be sold when the motor started having a rod-knock problem. The 4-cyl ones are the ones I've heard the most, and have never ridden in a boat with 'Tower of Power' I-6 sadly.

  • domme 2-takt...

  • dom?

  • hey i have a sidewinder with an old school tower of power too, and a stainless prop what are you pitch is your prop and what are you getting for top speed?

  • I run a 3-blade 20-pitch prop that runs about 40 mph. The boat is strictly used for skiing!

  • lol "smells" ........but hey, its true!

  • "Nothing looks, sounds, or smells like the Tower of Power! " -highly agree! even with the last part

  • nice motor and video love the I6s!

you runnin a stainless prop? my '74 1150 clunks like that when ya shift to. I know thats the way they're built, but still makes me cring! :/

  • Comment removed

  • 5 Star love the sound

  • Thank you. The engine is an '85, but the decals are 1972. custom-made for me. I also bought the faceplate on ebay.

  • For what it's worth, the faceplate is a '73 or '74. 72's had blue trim but still said "Kiekhaefer Mercury", not yet "Mercury Marine." (From '75 on the faceplates were black.)

  • Awesome sound!!

    What year is the engine?
