I've been using a 2490WUXi (the original) for a couple years now, and I have to say it's the best damn monitor I've ever used. I was interested in getting one of the 2490WUXi2's until I found out it doesn't have the A-TW polarizer.
HI there. Last week a bought DELL U2410 and it is already packed to go back to DELL. There is nothing wrong with it but it's contrast and brightness is so strong that when I have white background it hurts my eyes so badly like welding without tinted glasses. I spent few days with the presets and adjusting all the possible features it had, but when I set the contrast or brightness lower my eyes hurt less but the picture didn't look that good any more.
We have two of these monitors in our studio now. We like them very much. I I do not use the monitor in a completely dark room so this example does not make much sense to me. It is a wonderful monitor.
I wanted to buy an NEC 2490WUXi until I found out that the A-TW filter had been removed from the panel and that the 'new' version doesn't perform that well. (Even for an IPS screen.Possibly because it's a eH-IPS, I've heard.)
And now, I see your clip and, boy,... Is it really that bad? Have you noticed the 'dark band' from vertical angels? I'm trying to find out whether it's still an amazing monitor or whether to opt for a Dell U2410..........
Im looking at buying the 2490wuxi2 as there are no more wuxi left. this polarizer issue is serious, i have the new HP2475 which uses the same panel as the NEC and let me tell you the glow is very annoying, you can see the glow on all four corners even at normal useage distance.
In my opion they have destroyed what was a great product.

So exactly what does the A-TW polarizer DO!?

I'm mainly talking about reading black text on white background. However for photos this screen is excellent . Movies and games look very good
