Just wondering. When you mention both shape and size, what do you actually mean? I thought size and shape are the same things and that you can't really "shape" your muscles. Thanks.
the smith machine is fucking awesome! anyone that says it sucks is ignorant and haven't used it. Its great machine to workout without a spotter plus you get perfect form from it. Its just amazing and my chest feels amazing after benching with this
Only dickheads that don't know any better are stupid enough to say Smith machines suck. Notice how many such dickheads post crap to YouTube.
I bet you stupid rummies don't know who invented the Smith Machine. Well duh, Jack LaLanne (the Juice man that just died at age 96. You should be so lucky to look as good as he did he in 60's, 70's, 80 and even 90's. Jack once beat Schwarzenegger badly in a weight lifting contest. Said Arnold, he's an animal. Arnold was 21 at the time, Jack already 54.
smith machines suck. machines suck. if you're an ifbb pro, you're on roids so you can do what you want and it will be more effective. I'd never tell anyone to get in a smith for anything besides standing calf raises or to hang clothes and bags on.
People that complain about others lifting on machines need to drop it already. Free weights and machines work different muscle groups, and in my personal opinion using both are good for combating the plateau effect. As long as your isolating your muscle groups on the machine and not abusing it there is no reason for criticism. Half of you wouldnt even THINK TWICE about talking shit to another person AT the gym who has good build. So why do it here? Talk shit to people who ARENT exercising..
@13098519 And you probably wouldnt criticize someone in person in the gym that was doing something you didn't agree with. The difference is that this is a supposed "instrucdtional" video put up on youtube. Smith machines suck. Period.
Smith machine is a great addiction to any chest workout. I myself use it every now and then to mix things up whethr it be incline decline or flat presses
ive been useing the smith machine at golds and i find i cant do the same weight on a regular barbell bench normally around 100lbs on smith but i guess having to stablize it made a big difference
My opinion completely, from looking at the machine and feeling it after a workout. I believe that the smith shows faster results. Reason I say that is, your not using other muscles to stabilize it. Therefore I feel that your working mainly on the part you want without all the extra stuff. If it were dumbbells you would have to keep them stable and put them up at the same time. You would be working not only the focus area but the other areas along with stabilizing them. My opinion though.
@xjvirkedziex i prefer the smith, but the argument would be that those stabilizing muscles will also grow, giving a rounder thicker look. i think all exercises should be cycled, use the smith until you stall out and stop progressing then switch it up.
Smith machine is a nono unless your injured. It will not work other muscles as you dont need too work on balance and it prevents the natural movement therefore when squatting there is alot of stress on the kness!

its easier, you probably won't get as fast results. but as said, its great if you are by yourself. if you want the strength and bulk, its great cause you can pile the weight and the machine spots you
Guy under me, why?

It's a great exercise to do if you're a bodybuilder. If you are an athlete, avoid at all costs.

@vincentwu exactly. Size is gained and shape is genetic.

@rradford43 On the bench press the smith machine can get you to lift about 16% more on average.
