Great review. Just one thing - when I am listening to reviews of guitars I am considering purchasing, I also really like to know what amp and signal chain is in use. It just helps give a better idea of what kind of tone the guitar actually has.
Thorough is what comes to mind when I saw this. I think a lot of people start playing electric guitar without really understanding what different pick ups can do. This, as well as being a review of a gorgeous guitar, hints to a lesson that shows what each (combination) pick up can do. Thank you
Depends on what tone you want. A PRS Custom leans more towards the heavy spectrum of music, but still being able to handle all styles perfectly. This guitar can handle all styles as well but it would be more suited for blues, jazz and soft rock.
4:57 'finally we'll finish with the neck pickup!' You meant bridge pickup huh? You best send me that guitar its obviously driving you bonkers Tom! haha
I'm thinking of ordering one and wanted to know what color finish is on this one. I have played the narrowfield pickups and they are punchy great sound.
I think you said neck when you ment bridge a couple of times. ............never the less, excellent demo....Thanks Tom. This guitar sounds great in your hands, have you had the chance to try out the 513 and if so what is you opinion. I've listened to both guitars on utube and to my ears I prefer the sounds of this one though the 513 has more versitility with the pickup choices.
They're more similar in tone to mini-humbuckers than single coils. In the end, they are just humbuckers. If you want a tone that is similar to a strat and cancels hum, a stacked humbucker pickup would be the best choice
You are a bad man Tom.... I had the old twin bucker / single SD model SAS - and sold it to get a Strat 56' Re-issue (which is a fine guitar...) BUT... How I hanker for one of these NF models after hearing your exquisite demo. Gonna get some serious G.A.S. pains over the coming weeks.... You and that nice Mr Reed Smith have a lot to answer for...!!!
how much are one of these!!! i NEED to get one. Great demo dude, you can really play and know what your talking about. now where can i get one of these!!!!
Got one this past Christmas. Incredible tones and very versatile. I play it almost exclusively now. Your playing is so fluid. Awesome. How about showing everyone that lick at end!
Great review! I actually have one put on hold for me at a local guitar shop here in Toronto. It's the NF3 model which is pretty much the same as this one.
Absolutely agree with the comment above -- outstanding playing, very thorough demo with good quality sound. Very, very few and far between on this thing. Please keep up the good work!
@rmoraespinto Hi there - thanks for the comment - we hope you found it useful, have you checked out the issue 1 of the iguitar magazine that the video is from? Theres alot more reviews in there which you may also find useful.
Great playing! Although you can hear the acoustic sound of the guitar too much in this video.. I think using a close miking (or muting the voice mic while playing) would help to show the real sound of the guitar through the amp!
Tbh i doublt its the amp, I looked up Tom's channel and all his videos use that really thin twangy tone, it just seems to be his preference, which is fine for him, but in my opinion its way way way too shrill. In any context i dont really even think it works in the fusion thing hes going for. Just cant understand his ear.
@Rg1527 Well, it can't be the guitar can it? Because Tom has used many many guitars before, and his tone is always pretty much the same. So its the amp. Yah, It may sound shrill, but to each his own :)
Nicely done Tom. Nicely done PRS!
