Ah yes, Dan the blue rinse idol - in his true colours. He was mostly fun to watch because of his over-inflated opinion of himself and his tired outdated impressions. Also before anyone asks yes I have seen him perform live and enjoyed it but his publicity material was embarrasingly old and out of date. Entertaining, but not for why he thought.
The fact that people will always remember and watch Danny La Rue shows how it is possible to speak from the grave. Regina Fong made this interview one of the most famous and funny on the London Gay scene.
Oh dear - yes he was very "touchy" when she asked the question. His response didn't do him any favours and just show him up to be a rude and reactional man whose over-inflated ego suffered a puncture from a quite reasonable question. She handled his reaction extremely well and held her own against his scowling anger which only manifested due to his own insecurities. He was a very good example of a dramatic diva-like screaming queen who behaved like a Prima Donna.
@DANNYLRPC Danny la-rue comes across as a nasty piece of work, he flies off the handle and wont stop untill he has had his say,
Slander is something that is not true, i cant be accused of slandering danny-la-rue when i say he was breaking the law when he was a homosexual, he was living with a man from the 1940 and living as a couple..
That was a crime then, so it makes him a criminal...simple fact
you really do have nothing better to do with your time and who said thats why i told you that was slander i wasn't even talking about Mr La Rue being gay and you didn't even know that he had a partner from the 1940's until i said anything as ive said you really won't win this
oh and as for me asking to see more clips tell me how many on here as in the whole of youtube are not copyright?? just look at all the shows on here,i know the laws very well thank you and as for getting me shut down im doing nothing but answering some prick back who dares to have a go at a friend who is no longer around you know nothing about him and never will and this interview isn't in full either so you only hear part of what was said now please go away and leave him alone
what foul language?? and you don't know me either i have the upper hand though and funny enough i also live in the uk and am british you seem to assume so much and know very litle and yes i know and knew just where Mr La Rue lived all his life thanks very much, and as ive already said this is't the full interview so you don't hear her come back and you did also call him a thief you changed your post

Respond to this video... Libel is defamation by the written word and slander is defamation by the spoken word ... instances of libel or slander can only be actioned in law if written or uttered whilst the person is alive and it causes damage to his or her reputation. It cannot do that after their death.
@DANNYLRPC You can't slander someone who's pushing up the daisies ... once their gone you can say what you like about them. I could say that Danny La Rue pushed pineapples up his bottom for lurid gratification but I couldn't be sued.
@DANNYLRPC "you really are pushing your luck now even though he maybe gone that is still vile and slander reported yet again"
That shows that you haven't a clue what your talking about. Slander is a SPOKEN defamation (actionable in a civil court) whereas libel is a WRITTEN defamation (also actionable in a civil court). Thus if someone posts a defamatory item it could be libel but NOT slander.
I have always thought of Danny as a wonderful entertainer. He knew he was. But I thought he was very rude and undignified. He could have acted with a bit more respect for the interviewer. When you are in the limelight you should expect difficult questions and act with good grace. Sorry Danny as much I love you unfortunately you let yourself down.

@jackhowiedocherty No it's not a rude question. It had to be asked and he had only to respond in a civil manner, but no, he couldn't contain his irksome ire, silly, coquettish man. He may have been the highest paid star in his time but he was a camped-up, talentless bore when young when a fat, garrulous, talentless bore when old ...
yes it was a rude question that never needed to be asked as for a bore Mr La Rue was far from it and as for putting on weight as he got older that was because of medication and treatment for cancer so get your facts right if you don't like someone you never knew then leave him to rest in peace and go away from his videos on here
@DANNYLRPC What do you mean "rest in peace"? He's dead for heaven's sake, he can't read this nor can any of it trouble him so why you think he is six foot under and troubled baffles me. I stll think DLR was a puffed-up, histrionic bore. Just listen to him spluttering and struggling to speak his mind but unable to because of his anger. And what did he resort to? How great he was and not how brave those protesting their work rights were.
and your point is??i happen to be a close friend of his and im asking leave him to rest in peace and he has other friends and family who read these go and find something too do with your life and stop writing stupid rude comments about someone you clearly never knew
@DANNYLRPC My point is that whatever I write or say is not going to disturb DLR's 'peace' because he's no more than a pile of bones now. Do you seriously think anything will disturb his peace? What will he do? Will he rear up in skeletal pose screaming "How dare you, I am an international star and you are the epitome of stupidity, ignorance and bad manners dear, and you're inarticulate"
There's no doubt that DLR showed what a bullying bag of piss and wind he really was in this interview.
Have you heard the whole interview NO now go away and get a life and leave my friend alone these comments have been passed onto the right people and as for me being inarticulate you have no clue about me but ive seen people like you before now please go away or the police will be in touch and no im not joking doesn't matter if he hs passed away or not
@DANNYLRPC I pointed out to you before that no matter what I say here, DLR cannot be slandered or defamed because he is dead. As for the police, for them to be involved I would have to threaten you, which I haven't.
It is you who hasn't read the text properly because I'm not accusing you of being inarticulate, but asking if you think DLR might, post-mortem, bellow at me in the way that he rudely and belligerently did to Sue Jameson. You need to get a life instead of this obsession with DLR.
MrGarry the public persona of a 'star' can be very different from the private one. Hang on to those memories because the reality can sometimes be very disappointing. I'd like to think that I'm a little too discreet to reveal my own thoughts of a man who was a childhood icon but left less of an impression after having met him. That said he was a great performer, groundbreaking and brought pleasure to millions. That's all the public requires I guess.
Ironically his tribute Show was on a Sunday night!! Bravo to Roy Hudd, Rick Wakeman and Mark Walsh - a brilliant ukelele player. it was a huge delight to see Mr Hudd perform as Max Miller, I even have to confess to enjoying Jim Davidson - which just goes to show how funny he can be with a cleanish and moderate routine - "looking at you lot Old Compton Street must be deserted tonight". He even returned to the stage at the end in drag!! Babs Windsor (yet again) didnt appear. Overall good show
im not sure what side you saw of dan but i saw all sides of him over 30 years or more and i just took him as he was but then i have always been able to split people into two halves we all have it
Sue Jameson,,,,, Calls her self a journalist,,,, Thats a joke......Sue Jameson is delusional... She didnt even have the decency, to appologise, low class bitch...
@ellespa2004 Apologise for what? She's a journalist. They're there to ask questions from all sorts of angles. She merely acted as devil's advocate: Look, all La Rue had to say was "well that's not true, I'm booked for the next three years. No, I'm here to support the performers who are being bullied" But he didn't. He launched into a screaming-queen hissy rant, showing himself to have a puffed-up arrogance if riled. I say again, he could have stayed calm. Sue Jameson did. He didn't,
the "international star" is slightly overestimating his own importance...oh, don't step on the gentle souls of "artists" for they are allowed to say and do as they please ? I find this extremely rude and ignorant ,...most artists EQ is sadly not equaled by their IQ...
Hay Girl! whoever you are? Danny La Rue put you back in your little box where you belong. Why don't you just gracefully bow out and stop trying to justify yourself.
She should have been fired on the spot for insulting a Great Star such as Danny La Rue. Her intention was to make Danny look bad and it backfired on her.
I agree wi the comment by egglondon. Although Danny was a true performer he didnt know when to say "enough was enough" also why did he never perform on the gay scene as most diva's do? May he rest in peace. x
It's clear this reporter is rude and NOT asking a "reasonable question" when she sounds so bloody smug during Danny's answer. Her voice is also very annoying, why do they employ these people? I can only hope that the ghost of Danny LaRue will be paying her regular visits and tampering with her "piece of crap" (Microphone)
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
If he was such a big star, why couldn't he fill halls later in life. A ridiculous has-been. I'm sure he was popular in his time but, unfortunately, he just didn't know when to say "enough" and made himself look a tit.
In his early career Danny not only filled halls he performed at Royal Variety Performances and was an international star. He worked continuously and was one of the most sought panto stars on the circuit as well as regular TV appearances.
The Reason that Danny came out of semi retirement later in life is that his money was taken from him by unscrupulous people who were supposed to have his best interests at heart and he had to keep working.
Personaly I think the reporter was bloody rude for asking the question. The reporter sounds like a ruddy upstart who should have respect for a true entertainer who has proved his popularity by the very fact he was one of Britains highest entertainers and lasted many many many years. I thiink that reporter got what she deserved.
I watched Danny La Rue videos today as I remember him when I was a child. I don't get it. he couldn't sing or dance or anything. Why was he so famous??? Nonetheless may he rest in peace.
Well, for what it's worth, I thought that he was a one off, and knew how to work his audience. Roy Hudd just gave a splendid eulogy on the box. Am sad at his passing.
Having met Mr La Rue on many occassions and had the 'experience' of being involved with his costume design over the years, he could be very rude and arrogant! Mark cantor was responsible for making most of his 'fabulous' costumes before Ms galbraith ever came on the scene!
dorset turd i'd think about educating yourself - I'd gladly put some money to it. In the meantime I'll be contacting the powers that be at You Tube to make a complaint about your hate filled comments. I've just checked the commentary guidelines and you breach them. It's scary to think that folks like you just possibly may breed and nurture children into your way of thinking. Frightening.
I didn't like La Rue when I met and got to know him through a club he owned in Soho in the early 90's. But he was a brilliant entertainer who gave millions pleasure. The posters who have written vile, homophobic and pathetic statements should be ashamed of themselves to attack someone who has just died and they didn't know. I'm surprised such apes can write. If you're against such infantile nastiness on this site then please complain. It's the only way to counter it.
sorry but dan didn't have a club in soho in the 90's??he had one in hanover Sq in the 60's but he never had another club at all,and i knew him for over 30 years
You couldn't have been that close not to know that he owned La Rue's in Manette st in Soho in the early 90's. I wasn't living in a parrallel world when i was living there with my partner in 93 and my partner was the manager. It closed down a few years later and has since changed hands several times.
he had what was a sandwich bar in the same street as he lived and he had live music there from as far as i can remember but it wasn't a club i still have a business card from there and it wasn't a club,i without looking at it one of the managers was Sean but i will get it and write just what it says on there and not a club and i was close thanks
we're arguing over semantics here. you don't need to bother quoting from a card thanks. I know what the venue offered as i lived there for a while in the upstairs flat. It wasn't a membership club but it was a bar and had a late drinking licence. Yes Sean was one of the managers and it was called La Rue's. Dan would invite back stars like Bea Arthur - as he did one night. She legged it. It was i have to say a dump and mostly full of clubbers coming down from their E's!
im not arguing with you at all im just stating what i know,i knew what it was and all that went on there,as i knew what Dan was doing with his work and private life for almost 30 years
basically I lived there for 3 months and my partner managed it. It certainly didn't reflect Danny's heydays of the 60's or the club in Hanover St, but it was called La Rue's, was festooned with pictures of him in Athena frames, had a late drinks licence and served chicken in basket meals. Class! Occasionally there would be cabaret acts, Danny himself performed there once to bemused youngsters. Babs Windsor came down for a launch party in Jan 94. Sadly it was shortlived and closed by 95.
I'm not a fan of Danny La Rue but what was Sue Jameson thinking of to ask a celebrity at a theatre in front of an audience "Are you here for publicity"? Not very tactful.
The flamboyant and caustic wit of the man who,if anyone deserves the title,is a true living legend the likes of which showbusiness has not known either before or since....A true original.A survivor.A man that the whole of his profession bows down to in awe and admiration....This isn't me saying this, these are quotes from Danny's own tome,'From Drags To Riches'...Modesty was never one of his weak points...THank God,Darliiinnnnggg
LOL! I've been mentioning this legendary incident on the LBC Thread on DS! Many Thanks for uploading it, I remember it sooo well! "I'm a verrry big international star dear!" :-) Will post the link to this video on the LBC Thread for others to hear.
Hope you're enjoying life on the South Coast Mr Perry! I've just subscribed, many thanks for all the super LBC material, and all the best. :-)
Mr La Rue's performance in this vid was shameful. The interviewer's question was a professional and necessary one, in context. He comes off far worse than she did and he sounds pretty silly in his own inarticulateness. What a sad end to his career.
I used to love Regina Fong doing this in her show at the Two brewers or Black Cap. I always knew it was Danny La Rue but never knew who the woman was. Poor Sue. .. . experiencing the wrath of a huge international star.. such as Ms Dannii La Rue
he thanked god for everything he was a roman catholic who prayed everyday went to church where ever he was in the world he even had a small alter he took to work with him so sory he was booked up well in advance that was just how he was if he had spoken too him he would of most likely said it during a conversation
What a VILE old man...hes a man in a dress...get over yourself.
A very big star, an international star? So he thinks hes A-List hey...LOL...Get a grip man! Your a vile old queen. Many who have had the displeasure to meet you have spoken of your jealousy at younger good looking people, those with talent and your need for attention and reassurance.
This was a desperate attempt at getting publicity and getting in the papers for this camp "outburst". Control yourself silly old man.
Danny is a wonderfull man. Very talented and has a lovely singing voice like a nightingale. This lady was rude to a very BIG star. How dare she be cheeky to this super star of stage.
Like a nightingale? You dont know your birds do you? You mean crow. Yes a crowing old crow. He is not a star, but your right he is very, very big. Look at him in that pic, he looks like a filthy old man.
I would like to slap him in his face. Sue Jameson is an extremely qualified broadcaster. International star? Going to wales doesnt make you international. Stupidity and bad manners? This man is being extremely rude. Go put on a dress Danny La Poo and sort your attitude out shim!
How very DARE you speak about Danny in such a way ! This is one of the most fascinating and talented men on earth. He is so sexy i often touch myself when i think of him. So there.
Do you not know your birds? He has a singing voice like a half dead CROW not a Nightingale. He is an awful man. Revolting and bad mannered. Hes not international. Working in wales or scotland doesnt make you international. You bad mannered talentless idiot. He did this for publicity. Sue is a very talented broadcaster. Amatuer? Your the amatuer danny la poo, look at your bad manners...makes you talentless. International star my arse!
Danny looks like a lovely young lady in his fabulous gowns. Just like a lady movie star. He is indeed international as he went to Australia dear. Also New Zealand dear. So there.
A Young Lady!?!?! How old are you? You must be around 150 if you think he looks young. He looks like a withered and washed up old prune. Im sure he used a crane to winch himself into those dresses. He went to Australia and New Zealand! Pfft! They must think he has some kind of talent, but then NZ are sheep lovers arent they so must dig mutton when they see it. As for Aussies they are back to front as well as being upside down so tells you alot. I heard Danny is now a cab driver.
Danny never looks a day over 22 when he has his beautifull make up and stunning gowns on. Even now he looks better than most young ladys in the charts. His beautifull looks and stunning vocal talent raise him to the zenith of high art. He is a very big sucessfull star dear.
When you have the likes of fat ginger Adele and smackhead Amy Winehouse, its not that hard to look better then him! Beautiful looks and stunning vocals? PFFT! High art? More like old fart! Very big star you say? Well dear I think you suffer from the same delusion as Mr La Poo. He should be called Danny LA RUDE after this mockery of a "performance".
if he wasn't an international star then why did he play Australia,NZ,Canada, part of the States, far and middle east??and as for this interview you did not hear the whole things he was far from vile
I should add that Danny's friend has informed me the original interview was 30 mins long, and that this was an edited version. I have the evidence that it was - as transmitted, and posted here on YouTube.
I've had the misfortune of meeting La Rue, what a vile sad old man he is, desperate for young men to pay him attention, holding court and of course the topic of conversation is himself
thats funny i was friends with dan for over 30 years we had our rows like most but he never wanted young men to pay him any attention and he would hold court who or wherever he was that was just part of his make up which i would give anything to hear again
yes i am a friend of over 30 years and yes i am going along with many other friends of his why,if you don't like him then please refain from making it sound like he didn't have friends
Sorry - didnt mean it to sound like that - Just think that the current line up as advertised is a really poor considering Danny's entertainment history. Jim Davidson for god sake? Why not Ken Dodd? Stanley Baxter? Why not Paul O Grady? I can understand Mr Corbett but Bobby Crush (no doubt promoting his dire Liberace Show!) I am also in attendance (not performing!) but think the EABF has not really pushed the boat out enough for a suitable Danny La Rue tribute
Jim is in it because they were friends for many years, and it is depended on who is working elsewhere at the time i know Paul has his radio 2 show which doesn't end until 7pm on a sunday and thats across the other side of london maybe he will turn up who knows, bobby was also great friends with him, there is not much we can do about who is in it as dan doesn't have alot of family left either he was the last of the children to pass away and had no partner
Indeed - so EABF scraps bottom of the barrel - with one of the most reviled comedians around and a Russ Conway wannabee pretending to be Liberace - and we are expected to fork out 50 quid a ticket - that is not a tribute - it stinks
yes but you have to remember these were also dan's friends weather you like jim or not he was good to dan and likewise back, and also bobby was a friend for many years, the only person he would have problems with is some drag person playing him someone called Ceri, plus you don't know what else is lined up on the night i don't even know and i knew him for many years
for years ( and Years ) and only just found it (April 2008) on DVD . My Nan loved him, und I loved him. Anyway just had it through my door after finding it on ebay. ( sorry I may go on a bit) any way back to my point!
I seen this movie on TV back in 1979 1980 when I was about 9 years old, and it stuck in my mind since then. Loved it, but tryed to find it, with no joy. But like I said, I found it. WOW it was better than I remembered, Danny is amazing
( He was the first and the best )
Of his kind, A super Star. Im so glad I found his movie after all these years, I very much enjoyed it ( allround, Danny, Lance Percival und the girls ) fantastic to see it again as a adult.
Thank you for posting this. The late Regina Fong used this in his drag act and it always brought the house down. Good on you Dan for putting her in her place!

There's no doubt that DLR showed what a bullying bag of piss and wind he really was in this interview.
vernonpage 6 months ago
@vernonpage
Have you heard the whole interview NO now go away and get a life and leave my friend alone these comments have been passed onto the right people and as for me being inarticulate you have no clue about me but ive seen people like you before now please go away or the police will be in touch and no im not joking doesn't matter if he hs passed away or not
DANNYLRPC 6 months ago

Mistersafehouse 2 years ago
Ironically his tribute Show was on a Sunday night!! Bravo to Roy Hudd, Rick Wakeman and Mark Walsh - a brilliant ukelele player. it was a huge delight to see Mr Hudd perform as Max Miller, I even have to confess to enjoying Jim Davidson - which just goes to show how funny he can be with a cleanish and moderate routine - "looking at you lot Old Compton Street must be deserted tonight". He even returned to the stage at the end in drag!! Babs Windsor (yet again) didnt appear. Overall good show

im glad you enjoyed it in the end it was the sort of show he would of liked and babs was stuck at work thats the only reason she didn't come

Sue Jameson,,,,, Calls her self a journalist,,,, Thats a joke......Sue Jameson is delusional... She didnt even have the decency, to appologise, low class bitch...
ellespa2004 2 years ago

What does "Diva peace" mean?
The bible says.."it is appointed unto man to die, but after this comes the judgement".
If Danny had at some point in his life accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Saviour, then he will go to heaven.

This comment has received too many negative votes show
If he was such a big star, why couldn't he fill halls later in life. A ridiculous has-been. I'm sure he was popular in his time but, unfortunately, he just didn't know when to say "enough" and made himself look a tit.
egglondon 2 years ago

Mistersafehouse 2 years ago
sorry but dan didn't have a club in soho in the 90's??he had one in hanover Sq in the 60's but he never had another club at all,and i knew him for over 30 years
DANNYLRPC 2 years ago
You couldn't have been that close not to know that he owned La Rue's in Manette st in Soho in the early 90's. I wasn't living in a parrallel world when i was living there with my partner in 93 and my partner was the manager. It closed down a few years later and has since changed hands several times.
Mistersafehouse 2 years ago
he had what was a sandwich bar in the same street as he lived and he had live music there from as far as i can remember but it wasn't a club i still have a business card from there and it wasn't a club,i without looking at it one of the managers was Sean but i will get it and write just what it says on there and not a club and i was close thanks
DANNYLRPC 2 years ago
we're arguing over semantics here. you don't need to bother quoting from a card thanks.
Mistersafehouse 2 years ago
im not arguing with you at all im just stating what i know,i knew what it was and all that went on there,as i knew what Dan was doing with his work and private life for almost 30 years
DANNYLRPC 2 years ago
basically I lived there for 3 months and my partner managed it.

This was a desperate attempt at getting publicity and getting in the papers for this camp "outburst". Control yourself silly old man.

tricitycollins 3 years ago
A Young Lady!?!?! How old are you? You must be around 150 if you think he looks young. He looks like a withered and washed up old prune. Im sure he used a crane to winch himself into those dresses. He went to Australia and New Zealand! Pfft! They must think he has some kind of talent, but then NZ are sheep lovers arent they so must dig mutton when they see it. As for Aussies they are back to front as well as being upside down so tells you alot. I heard Danny is now a cab driver.
hedphunked 3 years ago
Danny never looks a day over 22 when he has his beautifull make up and stunning gowns on. Even now he looks better than most young ladys in the charts. His beautifull looks and stunning vocal talent raise him to the zenith of high art. He is a very big sucessfull star dear.
tricitycollins 3 years ago
When you have the likes of fat ginger Adele and smackhead Amy Winehouse, its not that hard to look better then him! Beautiful looks and stunning vocals? PFFT! High art? More like old fart! yes i am a friend of over 30 years and yes i am going along with many other friends of his why,if you don't like him then please refain from making it sound like he didn't have friends
DANNYLRPC 2 years ago
Sorry - didnt mean it to sound like that - Just think that the current line up as advertised is a really poor considering Danny's entertainment history. Jim Davidson for god sake? Why not Ken Dodd? Stanley Baxter? Why not Paul O Grady? I can understand Mr Corbett but Bobby Crush (no doubt promoting his dire Liberace Show!) I am also in attendance (not performing!) but think the EABF has not really pushed the boat out enough for a suitable Danny La Rue tribute
MrGary66 2 years ago
Jim is in it because they were friends for many years, and it is depended on who is working elsewhere at the time i know Paul has his radio 2 show which doesn't end until 7pm on a sunday and thats across the other side of london maybe he will turn up who knows, bobby was also great friends with him, there is not much we can do about who is in it as dan doesn't have alot of family left either he was the last of the children to pass away and had no partner
DANNYLRPC 2 years ago
Indeed - so EABF scraps bottom of the barrel - with one of the most reviled comedians around and a Russ Conway wannabee pretending to be Liberace - and we are expected to fork out 50 quid a ticket - that is not a tribute - it stinks
MrGary66 2 years ago
yes but you have to remember these were also dan's friends weather you like jim or not he was good to dan and likewise back, and also bobby was a friend for many years, the only person he would have problems with is some drag person playing him someone called Ceri, plus you don't know what else is lined up on the night i don't even know and i knew him for many years
