  • as a owner of both, 2012 Mustang 5.0 and 1999 Pontiac T/A... I believe this SS had probably a few bolt on mods. Nowadays its hard to find a LS1 that hasnt been modded. A big misconseption about LS1's is that their old and the stock numbers were accurate from GM, not the case. Keep in mind that it didnt take much to get my automatice trans am dyno tuned to 428rwhp. So beware the next time you see one at a stop light. Hands down though, I like my 5.0 much better.

  • @kb2010gt500 Fwiw, I've owned 3 Machs, the quickest had 4.10s, tune, drop in filter, ORX, and catback. It went 12.9 at 109.9. My current SS went 12.43 at 111 a couple weekends ago with a tune, lid, LTs, and LM2 catback, 3.23 gear. Check my vids for verification. You need to chill man, you're so defensive over the 5.0 that you jumped on me and I was defending the fukn thing by saying the LS1 must of been lightly modded!

  • I have an 01 SS. I can see a stock LS1 staying with the 5.0, but not pulling him like that. My guess is either the SS has a tune and maybe a couple free mods, or the 5.0 driver needs some seat time. Kool vid either way.

Any clown knows that SS had a lot of mods because a stock 5.0 makes 360 at the tire. And, by the way, that LS1 was designed in 1960 and F-Bodies are pretty much relics and every kid has one.

  • @wannadieessay Been there done that. While you can build a cheap turbo car, it won't be reliable like a stock V8. It won't last. Even if you build it to last you could add a factory S/C from Ford and still win with a warranty. I like both. As for this video, the SS isn't stock. I had a 97 and stock they barly ran 13's. The new 5.0 is a 12 second car with a bad driver maybe 13.

  • LS1 is a 14 year old engine with an even older engine design still kickin ass to date, props to that SS keepin up. The 5.0 coyote is nice and all, but with all the technology they flaunted (independent valve timing, dohc, 4 valves per cylinder, 7000rpm rev limit, etc.) you would've thought that it would've walked the camaro plain and simple.

I love GM but that's a fact. I was just stating that the LS1 is a mean motor and the hype of the 5.0 coyote overplays how good it really is. Not saying it's slow. And the only reason the new GT's beat the SS's is power-weight. SS has more power but are HEAVY bastards, IRS and... hell who knows lol.

  • @need2speed94 I know your just trying to show love for what you like, but "overplaying how good it is" ? it IS good, and in 14 years Im willing to bet the 5 liter will still be competitive. remember, in stock form the 5 liter engine makes 87 more horses than the ls1 in this car, and does it with 700 less CCs of displacement. even against the current 6.2 liter in the SS, the 5 liter is only down 14 horses but also smaller but 1.2 liters.

  • @need2speed94 You say the mustang only beats the camaro due to power to weight, but the 5.0 mustang asserts that the old mantra of "there is no replacement for displacement" is not true..the replacement for displacement is the removal of weight. The irs in the camaro does add a bunch of weight, and the mustang outhandles it...with a live axle.Car and Driver even shows a 5.0 beating the vaunted m3 around a racetrack. do more with less, thats what makes a great car

  • @cannabotany Yea definitely... And being a guy that's more into drag racing instead of circuit, I'd love to see the camaro return to a live axle in the rear. I've never thought of camaro's as circuit cars. Who knows what they will do with the next camaro platform... I just hope to god it's ***lighter, and offers live axle Or IRS (probably won't happen lol), and is physically small. All these modern muscle cars are big ass cars for No reason at all. Just extra unnecessary bulk and it's stupid.

    Absolutely. There's no way in hell a stock LS1 would reel in and pull away from a stock 5.0 like that. In fact in my personal experience, it's usually the other way around. Either the LS1 isn't stock, or the 5.0 guy can't drive to save his life. I've raced a few llightly modified LS1s in my stock 5.0 and I had a couple car lengths on both before triple digit speeds so I'm having a hard time believing this LS1 is stock.

You claim to have a similar size engine to the gt3, which is 3.8 liters. That turd of yours started life with a 1.6 liter engine, are you trying to say you more than doubled the displacement? Or did you swap another engine into it? either way, you added more weight to the front of an already front heavy car

  • @blvmjohndavid Unless you gutted the mini, built a tiny little RWD or AWD chassis to fit under it, paying close attention to the weight distribution, all you did was make your car handle even worse with your mods. Torque-steering into the next lane, Understeer so bad you'd think the wheels were welded in place, Front tires destroyed so quickly you think nerf made them. You just amplified all those problems your car already had.

Ford mustang is one of the worst engineered cars in the world, everything from the aerodynamics, weight, and the engine itself doesn't even stand to full potential of competing v8s in the market. And something you didn't know, I do not track race, I street race, I take 5.0 mustangs anywhere from 30-60 roll. Understeer has never been a problem with me, Mini is one of the best handling cars, something your mustang would lack is good handling.

I just watched your video of your car, you have stock displacement, earlier, you said you had a similar size engine to the gt3. At 3.8 liters, the gt3 engine is closer in size to the mustang's.

Even if you did have somewhere close to the 3.8 liters the gt3 rs has( which I don't believe) it would not make it perform like the gt3

The mini is just funnest to drive. I actually had a 350z before I traded for the mini, and later on i got a 335i coupe for daily driving. The mini is just my fun tuner car

  • @blvmjohndavid And something you didn't know...front wheel drive is for economy cars. Cars with less than 2 liters are economy cars. Find one race series that uses front-drive 1.6 liter cars and you will see some boring racing. Even if you don't think that applies to you because you street race, the lack of fwd in racing is because there are better ways to get the power to the road. Porsche knows that, they don't make any cars with less than 2.5 liters and have NEVER made a front drive car

  • @azezalo1 You believe everything you read? That Camaro had aftermarket wheels and an aftermarket grill. I'm fairly sure there were a few things done under the hood.

    Lastly, don't forget a car that is FRESH off the lot is not going to perform to maximum standards. There is a break in period of a couple thousand miles, until then the car will be slightly slower than its full potential.

  • lt1 cars are on a 1 to 2 seconds slower the ls1 so it shows all that power a new 5.0 has is wasted with all that weight

  • @suppaman12 ok let's talk a 3600 pound 412 horse gt runs a 13 a 3100 pound lt1 z28 274 horse runs a 13.9 so it every 100 pounds is a tenth so do the math that's not impressive 13s a camaro of the same horse would win plus I had a truck mostly stock 3750 on the scale with 354 horse at the wheels on the dyno run 13.4 so as I said all that weight kills that power.   • @turbojeep85 actually, the 6 speed 5.0 weighs 3875 lbs, and the SS with 325 hp LT1 weighs 3400 lb . you can clearly tell the SS is not stock.

  • is the mustang an automatic... i think it is. i have a 2011 gt and my brother in law has 2000 camaro ss and his car isnt as fast as mine... i know this for a fact, its a pretty close race in fact it is closer than when i raced my buddy at work in his new 2010 ss.. so either the guy in the mustang cant drive or the camaro isnt stock.
