So, wait--was that Hilarion doing all that dancing or was it just one of the other guys? I'm trying to keep up with who's who, but I'm not doing a very good job. -_-' I'm confoozled...Whoever he was, though, he's hot! He exudes this air of "Fear my Dancing!" LOL
Isn't this the one from the earliest days of commercial VHS videotape with Mischa and Natasha, which was never reissued on DVD, but features such future Giselles as Van Hamel (Myrthe) and Tcherkassy (peasant pas de deux) who had their own days in the sun after the Giselles of the 1977 run - Fracci, Alonso and Kirland, had retired from ABT?
This scene looks like a painting that has come alive. The sets are so right, and very effective, with hues just like a painting...very dreamy and lots of depth. And the characters come alive. So beautiful. Thank you.
If you have existing clips of ABT in those days, please post them all. There is a noticeable lack of footage of dancers from the ballet boom years. Kirk Peterson, Christine O'Neil, Marianna Tcherkassky, and others are very important dancers in the history of American dance. Each deserves an entire library of their works. Thank you so much for this posting. Please add the names of the Peasant dancers (Kirk and Marianna) to the credits so searches for them will find this clip.
Also, while we're talking about choreo, what happened to the supported pirouettes from one knee? Were those a later addition, or did this couple just do a different version of the pas de deux?
wow! seeing kirk peterson dance is such a treat. i danced at the Hartford Ballet when i was younger while he was still the Director. And his choreography for the American Nutcracker was simply amazing!
we learned this the other day.i have so much respect for them because it was very difficult but they make it look so easy and delicate it is beautiful!

I'm currently learning this... I agree, it's a very difficult variation and they make everything look so easy and beautiful!

Ooh, I did this about 2 years ago in the role of Giselle. Only instead of temps levees, we did caprioles (sp?). It's such a gorgeous ballet.

same here!!! and yes it is a VERY gorgeous ballet!!!

i learnt this par too! :) it's really hard althought it looks very simple!

RIGGlovesnigg: "Cabrioles." Yea, I noticed that too. I was wondering if the choreography was originally temps levees or cabrioles.
