As it was said, "without light I am not only invisible, but formless as well". Further, he "is left with his 1,369 light bulbs, but they are no substitute for the reality, and he knows it… ." That novel has SO many layers in it. Even in today's New World society, where even the native- born are being forced underground, to make way for new legions of citizens, let in, by the US, that have their undying allegiance to a NEW national agenda, leaving the common man, without jobs, opportunities, nor a real sense of a country that respects the individual's prior peaceful & constructive efforts, to succeed / live.
In a way, chains are simply a symbol of all these things you speak of. They chain you down and keep you from the things you wish to do or hope or believe or achieve in life. That is why I chose to use chains. They create a beautiful image of holding you back. By breaking the chains, you are able to create a change in yourself or maybe even in the world
