So I just started reading the posts on the videos I've been watching and very few people are articulate in explaining what they see. Nolan, compare yourself to other tall professional pitchers starting with Randy Johnson. Compare yourself with as many pitchers as you can to identify how your mechanics differ from theirs. Particularly, where you are when your front foot hits the ground? There are many different styles of pitching but the best are always in very similar positions at foot strike
For those of you that watch a lot of video and still make remarks which are unhelpful and ignorant... stop. chrisnumbers: did randy johnson look "hella strong?" does Mark Buerhle look like he is jacked? chrisnumbers: what does pushing off MORE look like? I have no idea what that means. I really don't think pushing off harder is what you mean. Can Nolan use his lower legs more aggressively and efficiently? Absolutely. Check out frames before foot strike and at foot strike. Inverted W.
mechanics need tons of work. Hips lead not legs, arm angle is of loss in velocity due to its height, stride length needs to b 85 to 100% of your height minimal. some pitchers even get more than that dependent on their body. Lastly, you want to incorporate your arm last. As tim Lincecum says, your body generates the velocity your arm is just along for the ride.
Too many moving parts in his delivery...his elbow is a little more elevated than his shoulder for the arm angle hes throwing at and thats not good. I really like his curveball it seems that anything else he throws is down the middle below the knees or inside on a left hander outside on a right hander.
Answer me please I bet you want me to throw at a speed of 105mph as I am from Argentina and never practiced that baseball is played here not only played football baseball I love to travel wherever you are to show it's true and I remain in that place to play baseball Answer me
you may blowout your shoulder or severly hurt your arm in the future...amazing control, but as for the arm coming in, you may want the arm to be @ 3/4 length rather than a straight side arm, because one of my friends tore his pectoral muscle because his extension came in with a sidearm overstretching right before delievery...like I said though amazing control
haha yeah cause John Smoltz was drafted with an 86 mph fastball? no. John Smoltz wasn't even throwing that slow when he retired, so I have no idea where you got smoltz from, maybe you meant Maddux? And speed IS everything when it comes to the draft, you ignorant fag. Now let me kiss you :)
@GayyyBoy69 Yes a meant Greg Maddux. and bro, do you even play baseball? speed ISNT everything! i could throw through a brick wall but if i cant get it over the plate im going to walk everyone, but if a have a 89, mph FB 87 mph 2 seam, 84 mph slider, 81 mph changeup and 79 mph curve, all with pinpoint control and dirty movement, i would take that over 110 mph fastball 100 mph slider with barely and movement and no control any day, Tim Wakefield's another exapmle.
@coolkidcater I don't play, I just like watching guys in baseball pants. Yes, you can PITCH and do well at the MLB level at 86 mph, provided you have exceptional command, movement, and knowledge of pitching. However, you can not get DRAFTED throwing 86 unless you are 6'7'' 200 and left handed or somewhere along those lines. and the draft is what I thought we were talking about here, if you look at my first comment.
@GayyyBoy69 Tyler Anderson LHP drafted 1st round 20th pick
The Oregon product throws an average fastball, 88-90 mph, though HE COMMANDS IT EXTREMELY WELL to get plenty of outs with it. It has two-seam tail to the arm side and he'll throw a cutter as well. His changeup is probably his best pitch, a well above-average offering that has OUTSTANDING ACTION. He has two breaking balls, a show-me curve that he'll use to get ahead of hitters early in the count and a good
Beede throws his fastball 89-91 mph, sitting comfortably at 87-89 mph, with good late life. He's got a nasty hard breaking ball, which is kind of between a curve and a slider (slurve), with the shorter break of a slider, but with the depth that looks more like a curve. He's also got good feel for a changeup, and he's got above-average command of all three pitches. this is all of mlb.com
Great pitch at 0:26

Stride length is really short for your height. This guy can improve greatly by striding farther and delaying the shoulder load just a bit longer.

@coolkidcater 89-91 is much faster than 82, which is what my first post said, and it's also much faster than 86. Thanks for the info though
