  • Oh, I talked to a Mustang salvage/enthusiast in Louisiana and he said about them being SSP's.He had 1 for sale but it was to far to go get.He also said out of the 300+ stangs he's salvaged, sold, redone, etc he had only ever came across 2-3 others. I'm figuring if all the 5.0 5spd 4bbl GL notches were all SSP's then, there is probably less than 2000.I could be wrong on the number.

  • @rider660r Not all 5.0 notches were SSP cars the 5.0 was an option along with the t-tops. There were NO ttop SSP cars because of regulations plus the light bar had no place to go.

  • Holy Shit.. I never knew they made a notchback T-Top.. Wow.. Any idea if they made them 88+??

  • @RyanShelton63366 The T-top option for the notchback was not offered after 1984. There are some dealer installed ones that were put in at the dealerships or sent to C&C for th conversion. The only problem with them is the VIN and Buck tags say the car did not come that way and they are not "factory" on the car.

  • Absolutely awesome! You have a dream car of mine. fine job brother.

  • @23yroldfox

Thanks, it took me a long time to find this one. I love the fact it is a factory 5.0, 5-speed car, and the t-tops are factory optioned as well.

  • Are you using the '83 motor still or did you drop in a later EFI motor? What cam are you using? And what about the trans? SROD or T5?

  • @gtdrummerdude

I am using a roller motor from an 86 but I would need to check the stamping to comfirm that. It's bored over some with a 281 duration comp cam and 10.5:1 Keith black pistons. The transmission is a heavy duty Tremac T-5.

  • I had a 83 GL 5.0 TRX Notch Canyon Red Black interior back when I turned 16 in 87 and can't find any info on a 5.0 GL anywhere.Does anyone know any production #'s for the 5.0 GL? I can find the GLX or GT.

  • @rider660r

The GL model is pretty rare. The numbers are pretty hard to find if they are out there. I am having a hard enough time finding how many factory 5.0, 5-speed ttop notches there were.

  • @XBlainerX I found a little info on the '83 GL 5.0,apparently they was supposed to be SSP's. I haven't came across any production #'s of yet tho. Odd thing tho,it wasn't used as a SSP car and was sold to the general public which a guy bought new before my father bought it and then I purchased it off of him. With a little fine tuning I was able to eat up anything until it think '90 or '91.Wish I had the GL back tho.

  • @rider660r I have a 1982 GLX notch 5.0, VERY rare cars, like as rare as a '79 Pace Car pretty much. They made 5,000 GLXs, most of which were 4 or 6 cylinders. I have the 5.0 plus a rare paint code (1P, only 319 Mustang were painted this color in '82) AND the optional '82 GT hood with the scoop that basically no one ordered on a coupe.

  • now the notchback is the rare and more sought after foxbody... Now a t-top notchback? I'd trade my 93 notch for a car like this any day! But it has to be clean! hah

  • wow that is a rare foxbody. I have NEVER seen a T top coupe. I'd keep that for a long long time if I were you. Beautiful condition too!

  • how do you make a 1983 gt have dual exhaust?

  • just take all the factory single exhaust out, then get a x or h-pipe to hook up to your headers. You will also need a dual hum trans crossmember as well. Then pick out a cat back system and put it on. Easy as pie!

  • awesome car man. i just bought one just like it. It also is a '83 T-Top coupe . But its just a 4 cyl 5-speed right now, but im planning on building a mild 302 for it.

does anyone know the production numbers on the t-top coupes, i know they are pretty rare, but i cant find how many were made

  • Know one knows the total...and the paper trail is long and probably inconclusive.

  • i love your car.lol i have 2 1983 mustangs one GT hatch the other GT Ttops hatch. i am restoring as well. and again very nice car

  • my dad has an 83 mustang with a t-top, and it USED to look very similar on the inside, is it the same car as yours? does that mean its rare if it is? i was planning on getting the same car as him to surprise him, so does that mean im screwed? lol

  • i would kill to have a t-top notch

  • Nice car, man! I've got an 83 notch, too. I love it! You just don't see many four eyes out there! I'm on foureyedpride, also. Hope to see ya there. Look for pics of my 306, efi, twin turbo, 5-speed on there this spring! Keep those four-eyes alive!!!!!

  • XBlainerX

    .....Want to sell it??

  • If the price is right. My blood sweat andtears wen into this car. It is also professionally appraised.

  • What was it appraised for

  • It is currently apparaised and insured for $24,500

  • Something to be proud of, I have an 84 t-top notch, that if i dont sell it , ill redo in a few years from now. Def a rare car, nice job on the rebuild.

  • damn rare car you got there

  • Awesome car man. You'll have to swing by foureyedpride dot com, its a mustang site dedicated to 79-86 mustangs. It has a great forum, with a lot of knowledge. I'm sure the rest of the people over there would love to see your ride. Its not everyday you see a t-top notch.

  • I am already a member...My whole build of this car from start to finish is on there.

  • D'oh!

  • man what a kick ass car nice

  • Thanks..It was worth all the time and money.
