  • you sound great when you sing the song. really good lesson thanks alot.... moving to video 2!

  • quality song thanks for the video justin top man!

  • I've been teaching myself for about 8 months now, largely through your videos they really are amazing. I love when I go into a guitar store and people ask how long I've been playing and seem shocked that I've been playing less than a year, mostly thanks to you Justin Keep up the good work!

  • Good stuff dude, like the details on strumming, which is really the hardest

  • AND THATS HOW THE INTRO IS PLAYED EVERYONE ELSE TEACHES THE DAMN THING WRONG GOOD JOB BROWSKIE

  • nice work man.

  • dude u r FUCKING amazing.

  • wow this guy has serious talent

  • Good job Justin! I taught myself this song back in '95 before youtube...so I had to read tabs which took forever. Anyway....I never used E7...I just played an Em over open E...think yours sounds better..thanks...

  • Damned Alternate Tunings!

  • Real nice job J! Regards e ;)

  • i've learned so much from this dude. he's a talented teacher

  • thanks for posting this video. extremely helpful.... this song is amazing....

  • oh man, this is so good, but open up a lil on your singing, dont be afraid to let loose

  • @rickmartinez11 cant while sitting on the floor... he should stand up or sit on a chair, that's prolly why.

  • very very crisp and on point

  • This is a fantastic lesson!

  • Your guitar has amazing clarity!

  • Justin, I would like to see you do more drawerings, Like Simon on SNL. Bumlooker chickiemonkey.

  • luv all the tunes Justin teaches...nice style and VERRY clear,,

  • why does Noone have a lesson on 'SHE' by the black crowes???? all i can ever find she talks to angels....

  • @jameshlady look for the original artist

  • Thank you Justin my friend .

  • Your ROCK! Great lesson!

  • Thank you for the lessons.

  • good playing good singing

  • wow in one of his videos he said hes not good at singing. huge lie

  • is that a traveling (smaller) guitar? i have a regular guitar - is playing a smaller guitar easier to play...especially when i am a beginner?

  • @myguitarism No this is a standard size guitar. As for size it depends on your size for most guys over like say 16 it would not make any difference, some girls like my daughter(11) finds it easier to play a standard size guitar that is a little thinner. I wouldn't really recomend a 1/2 size guitar if you are still that small I would say learn ukele first. Both my 6 and 12 are jumbos and that was just a coincidence and I am a fairly small adult man about 5''6" and have no trouble.

  • @myguitarism What is most important is sound and feel....... play a hole bunch at the music store even if you are not very good. and just see what you like. The smaller guitars I find don't have as nice a sound and when you outgrow it you willl need to by another.

  • TUNING,FOR ALL OF WANTING TO KNOW HOW TO TUNE.

TUNE YOUR G, STRING TO YOUR 4TH FRET 4TH STRING

NOW TUNE YOUR D STRING TO YOUR 7TH FRET A STRING,

AND TUNE YOUR A STRING TO YOUR 7TH FRET E STRING. AND THERE YOU GO.

THIS IS ANOTHER GREAT LESSON. WE ALL LOVE JUSTIN.i HOPE THIS HELPS SOMEONE OUT.PEACE... Joe

  • Justin, you can sure tell you feel the music. it makes it a pleasure to learn from you. thank you so much for all your time in giving lessons.

  • It's a lot easier to tune to open D (DADF#AD), and capo at the second fret. At least, that's the way Rich Robinson plays it live.

  • The hammer-on chord is an E shape 022100. At least, that's the way Rich Robinson plays it live.

  • i dont know if your nervous buddyr but calm down brother you nailed that!!

  • good work justin...one of my fav songs ever:)

  • or elixir's are awesome strings

  • nice one justin , thank you.

i did find it better to play the chorus in open chords though, the b is kind of a dm shape on the 2nd fret then the a is a d shape leaving the bottom e open played a fret below a normal tuning d. sounds much better than barring the 7th and 5th and allows you to incorporate riffs.

hope this makes sense and thanks again for posting this , ive been wanting to learn this for a long time now.

    all the best.

  • Justin, I've been playing it some, and on that E6sus4, I'll fret the D string at the 3rd fret raising the E to an F#. To me it sounds fuller.

    z

  • thanks man you really have helped out alot more than youll ever know keep sharing the gift of music man and GOD will bless you

  • Some of your best work Juzzy, Thanks for posting...

  • I've never tuned to open e and is surprisingly easy, you just blew my mind, definately an easy good sounding tuning, thanks alot

  • Awesome,i have to learn this

  • You never cease to amaze! The Black crows would be proud. I thought you played and sang it beautifully. Keep on keepin on Justin thanks bro!

  • Thanks for the great instructions! I had always liked this tune and had the main melody down but never could pick out the other licks .. I especially am having fun with the 'reverse grip' that you show .. that works well for me. I play this in 'D' tuning and it works. Go Well Mate

  • great guitar instruction, mate!!

  • The resonance of that guitar is awesome. Never heard of a maton until I started watching you. How much does that messiah run in u.s. If you don't mind me asking.

  • i just peed my pants. that was truly amazing and i love your accent soo much.

  • Love all your work !!! It has given me more info and great strength in my playing. I could not thank you enough. Jerry Chicago Il. USA

  • When leading up to the chours before the bar at 7 fret, same stumming just put a finger on the b string on the 5th fret.

  • pure class mate, keep the lessons coming.

  • Another great lesson Justin!

  • Quality lesson, from a quality guy. Cheers :)

  • Excellent

  • Justin, u are a gr8 guy!

  • Possibly the best cover on youtube. I like Justin, not always the best singer but on this song he's excellent.

  • To say that anyone thing is correct in fingering over another is just stupid. If a person can use a non-conventional technique and it works and they still get the playing right then it is not incorrect. Any teach that tells you that their way is the right way and the only way is not a teach they are a tyrant. You will not find Justin doing that on any of these video's. If that is what you think creativity is... a finger in the right or wrong place then you need to spend more time considering it

  • @xjbladderx Couldnt agree more. Its not really the fingering the matter. Its the actual notes

  • Justin, you are hands down the best teacher on YouTube (and I'm sure in person, as well). Thank you for all of your hard work. And by the way, you have a bangin' voice, and singing along really helps me to learn the song. Thanks again!

  • You should post a video showing us how to play some MetallicA.

  • Brilliant as usual Justin.

Any chance you can show us more songs in Open E. It takes me ages to re-tune and I want to make the most of this tuning. Please :)

  • Well done, mate!

  • Justin ! You are the best...

  • Outstanding.

  • Beautiful version mate. Really enjoyed hearing you sing it. And with feeling!

  • You are really good! You sound better than the orginal! Thanks for the guitar tips.... you can always learn new things!

  • Awesome amigo, you're really helping me with learning guitar on your site. Thanks so much

  • excellent sound. good harmonics.

  • :).. u r totally the best.. the best..

  • i hate sitting on the floor and playing guitar it makes my foot fall asleep.lol

  • @rocktoy79sux haha i do that all the time and ive done it so long my stand up playing is suffering

  • @rocktoy79sux but the worse part is then it's up all nite too

  • cant believe this song doesnt have more views......

  • Hey Justin. I was told not to tune UP a guitar because it puts to much stress on the truss rod and ruins the sound of the guitar once you tune back down. I play this song, but I tune in open D (DADF#AD) and put a capo on the 2nd fret. It's exactly the same without tuning up the guitar.

  • why dont you upload a vid and teach us then!!!..

  • Comment removed

  • Actually, if you just cared to check out his site, you would have seen that he wrote that there aswell.

  • Justin seems like a smart guy. He would probably said something if it was wrong.

  • I really wish i could rate this a 6 ^^

  • Just came back to give another 5 stars!

  • I think this is the best song lesson ever on Youtube, love the song and love the way Justin teaches it.

  • Hey Justin! Any tips for singing while playing? Thanks in advance!

  • you so got me hook on open tuning Please!! Please!!! more open tuning songs. love all your lessons, there the best on youtube by far....

    more open tuning songs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! please

  • You are awesome Justin. :)

  • Excellent Lesson Bro

  • Justin Awesome lesson series,

I love that over the top trick

great job on the singing too

    Rock on

    Tim

  • That Brian Johnson hat is the bees knees, my friend.

  • amazing!!!.....what kind of guitar are you playing with btw?

  • Maton Messiah M100

  • I always like reading the comments on the video and commenting on what they had to say on the video. haha

  • Excellent - have you released a CD of your music?

  • outstanding. thank you for yet another clear and well thought out lesson

  • Thank you, I owe you>

  • How do you tune up with an electric tuner. I can't do tuning by ear :(

  • if you have a guitar chord put it into ur guitar and the other end into ur tuner.

  • Use chromatic tuner. Most of tuners have that option so if you need some string to be tuned to E chose E on chromatic scale and tune it.

  • hah another awesome lesson and great song.

  • oooooooomg! i realy do not want to learn this one. U just killed this song by perfect performance! I never can reach this.

  • What can you not reach , is it the singing or the guitar , because you can be as good on guitar as most people maybe not as good as Justin but the singing , some people are born to sing but the more you sing the better you will get.You can always tune ur guitar down half step to help singing it might not sound like much but it will help singin for sure. Singing in standard tuning is a toughie , I know how you feel.

  • Great Work Justin, Appreciate all the effort you put into these Videos.

  • also brilliant vocals!

  • Hey Justin great vid as usual! Thought I'd suggest maybe doing a lesson on In Bloom by Nirvana sometime? I've got the chords down but having trouble figuring out the strumming and its really bugging me now! There are videos of it already but no-one does a good job of explaining things properly unlike yourself!

  • Justin! Awsome singing! We're gonna lose you to the record production world soon, if you keep on like this!

    Great vid & singing.

  • Justin , the best guitariste on the web ! Hi is awsome ! You got my respect

  • love this song brings back some memories, some bad, some good, thanks for teaching you truly are spreading the love!

  • you totally nailed those vocals here Justin

this is the first I hear of this song.. and I like it :)

  • This is not commenting on this video, but as everyone is commenting on singing I thought I would ask a question.

How does one practise singing and playing at the same time? I've been playing for a year now but find it extremely difficult to sing while playing - even with songs I know by heart. Any tips?

  • just practise, practise, practise :)

//start with really basic song it will come, will see

  • The only thing I know for sure is that you have to be 100% cool with both parts before you put them together, at least when you start out. Nowdays I can play and sing quite difficult bits as long as I am confident with the guitar, I can stick that on autopilot and think about the vocal. I have been researching this and will try and do a lesson on it soon. J

  • I knew you were a great player, but dude, you can sing!

  • I definitely agree, the singing has improved so much, it sounds great! Keep it up

  • awesome singing Justin ;)

Those hours practicing last week really paid of

also a great lesson and a great song, but I think I'll skip this one (I'm not that great at retuning my guitar).

  • wow, justin!!

    was that you singing?

    i'm confused! :D

    great tune, great performance..

  • I wish i could sing as you, I suck at singing :(

  • Your great Justin.

Btw how much do you want for the hat? Eheh

  • singing's getting better :)

  • My A string broke when I was trying to tune it to B. What kind of strings should I use.

  • learn how to tune

  • probably just broke cos it was old. I like DR srings, but it is just a matter of what you like the sound of! Strings, break, don't worry about it. J

  • I'm always a wee bit nervous tuning up strings without slacking others, so I tuned down to D (D A D F# A D) and just put my trusty capo on the second fret. Plus, I'm super broke until next month and even spending money on strings right now should be avoided. :-)

  • thats using the old noggin.

  • buy more?

  • good stuff man. Looking forward to some new stuff. WE'll have to virtual jam sometime :)

  • that roK'd justin, singin was great brother!

  • Great, once again, Justin... thanks a lot, I'm already working on it...
