GM made $7.5 billion dollars in 2011. So, your point that 'this is what happens when American's refuse to buy US-built products" is bullshit. The unions caused this debacle. GM simply moved operations to countries and places where costs were less.
little dramatic dont ya think ? I was born in flint as well and after being held up by crack dealers and having my mom shot at by drug dealers I was happy to get the fuck out of there.
For 4 years I spent my summer vacations in Flint and savour the hot summer days exploring all the paths around Thread Lake and playing flash light tag on the hot summer nights on Cheyenne St. just of the Dort highway. The best time of my life.
@gopconservative78 then why dont you go there you shit head. not all factory workers are like that. maybe if you and your republican brothers didnt send our fucking jobs elsewhere we wouldnt be in this situation.
@DALE3SR All U.S. factory workers are idiots that couldn't hack it in a real job. They make crap while the Japanese and Chinese make far superior products. Their workfirces are not lazy and work very hard, not like the drunks, stoners, and losers that never went to college that make crap American cars.......
I lived in Flint for 2 years after I got out of the navy. The neighborhood I lived in was crap then. I had my house broken into, my tv, stereo, and bicycle stolen. My lawnmower got stolen, TWICE. I'd hate to see what the neighborhood's like now.
This is what happens when you allow unions to exist and libturds are put in charge of anything.
Bull. I too lived here through the 90's. This has nothing to do with government or corporations. This has to do with TOO MUCH government intervention. This has to do with TOO MUCH unionization. It does not pay to build cars here. And nobody HAS to buy a car because it was built here. I worked for GM. I will only buy cars BUILT in the US myself. BUILT. Not owned by American companies, built. But most importantly, built in RIGHT TO WORK STATES. FUCK THE UAW.
The American automakers forced this on themselves. producing bullshit cars (compared to the Japanese at the time) through out the 80s and 90s. Right now American cars are easily on par with Japanese. But its too late now right?
What is worse a honest hard working tax paying citizen buying a better built less exspencive more fuel efficent forign vehicle or a Janitor who works for GM that has unlimited overtime making 36 dollars an hour who pushes a broom for 2 hours then plays cards for the remainder of his day or leaves early and has a co worker punch him out at the end of his shift? There are plenty of reasons the Auto Manufactures left and you cant put all of the blame on people who buy forign Vehicles
@brokePhuck GMotors created those conditions for that worker. Proper managmen would never allow him to olay cards. The unlimited overtime was a result of GM not wanting to hire more workers. There were times we begged for days off and the overtime was mandatory! We are no longer a country that manufactures we consume and that is why we are where we are today! MOST certainly the biggest fault is with Americans who buy foriegn products. Gm moving doesn't matter. It will be the same elsewhere!
This is what happens when unions strike one to many times and refuse to work with the money-hungry company who provides them with a paycheck and benefits. Eventually, the company will move to where they can make money. We live in a capitalistic society. Businesses move to where they can make money.
don;t worry flint is not the only town in USA who is suffocating by the miss managements of the government ,there are 1000's of town and cities just like it
The current world system, be it capitalism, socialism, communism...are all lies and don't work for everyone. They are all MONETARY systems. And in a monetary system wealth ALWAYS consolidates in the hands of the few. Time for a TOTALLY new system. Check out the Zeitgeist Movement.
This is a very sad video. :( But places like Flint might end up being a good thing. Once everyone who makes less than $250,000 is unemployed & foreclosed on, only MAJOR cities will be left with the rich elite & upper middle class. Eventually they will not care about kicking us out of those boarded up houses in abandoned small cities & towns. And personally I'd rather live in a squat house than in a tent in the woods.
The unions are what killed Flint, the unions are monstrosities of old that have outgrown their usefulness. Now these parasitic leviathans are bankrupting all aspects of American life, public and private.
Flint was a great city. Michael Moore is responsible for deestroying it. He makes tens of millions off of exploiting Flint; he hates capitalism, why not use his fortune to restore the great city of Flint?
This is a very sad and touching video, Obubison, but the causes of Flint and even the whole state of Michingan dying are a lot more complex than people buying Japanese cars. And it is true what the last commentator said, I lived through the "planned obsolence" era, and the effect of Detroit's strategy was to rocket-propel the Japanese car into popularity and success. To make it in this gobal economy a company must be competitive and adaptible and give the people what they want.
You know what killed U.S. auto makers? In a word "planned obsolescence" . Back in the early 1970s Japan introduced some cheap little cars in the U.S. market. People thought of them as cheap junk. However that changed when they realized the Japanese cars kept going past 200K miles and U.S. cars had significant problems at 100K miles. The Japanese never thought to introduce a nasty little trick called "planned obsolescence" . Now the U.S. car makers are obsolete too. Remember QUALITY rules!
Flint...what a piece of crap.
