Even pop and hip hop talk about religion. It's just metal is a branch from rock n roll and old codgers with sticks up their ass called it was the devil's music cause their daughters and wives wanted to sleep with Elvis instead of them.

The song is about Joan of Arc, 1412-1431 and no one else. 500 years after Charlemagne. Led the fight against England and the Burgundians, who were ravaging France. Nothing to do with the Holy Roman Empire (Germany) or the cheap Voltaire quote about it for that matter. A great, epic song.

The guitars and synth are great, but damn those vocals are... ugh... It sounds like Kai Hansen singing drunk with marbles in his mouth.
