why does the guy in the begining(min 0:05) presents it as michael jackson video award? i mean it would be really stupid if he just remembered out of nowhere to call it that specially considering that its a hard rock band reciving it and if that was the case axl did great to separat the band from that shit
Bullshit. Megadeth came out with Countdown to Extinction, Alice in Chains released Dirt, and...oh shit I guess '92 didn't really have a whole lot. According to Wikipedia, all the good rock and hip hop albums from the era came out in '91 or '93-'94 O_o
@HippiPress I am getting so sick of trying to watch videos and see SOMEBODY always coming into a fucking GnR video just to talk shit about Axl. Don't fucking talk shit unless you know the whole goddamn story. Fuck.,

@axlroseGNR88 At least Kurt was REAL.Axl was stuck up his own ass and that was why Kurt despised him. Yeah, Kurt could be a miserable little fuck sometimes, but he didn't exactly have the easiest life(his sclerosis made him suffer terrible stomach/back pains throughout his life, and there was no cure for it then, meaning he turned to heroin to get pain relief from it, which brought its own issues. also, he was molested by the media all the time) But he still managed to have a sense of humour!
@LoverElephant97 i like both Axl and Kurt anyway?!? but out of the two, Axl's so much cooler! thats just my opinion ofcaurse, you can think what you like!
@Alejandrocc1994 Because although Steve Adler's drumming was not the best technically, he had a way of kicking the drums with pure energy :) Steve was the "energy" behind "destruction" and Izzy was the "appetite". After they've both gone, group was an "illusion". Gilby and Matt (although they are both good guys) couldnt replace the shoes of those two beasts. So Axl tried to fill the space with back vocals, pianos, symphony orchestras etc.
@Alejandrocc1994 Dizzy was about to lose his apartment and live on the street. He called Axl the day before he was going to get evicted and called Axl (his friend) to tell him that it would be impossible to contact him for a while, so "goodbye". Axl knew that Dizzy was a great piano player, and offered him a gig touring with GNR. Dizzy accepted (obviously lol).
I got all this info in a GNR biography I read. You should read more if you have questions about GNR such as this one.
@Alejandrocc1994 Are you fn crazy asshole? Dizzy is a fn GENIUS, man! He is a one of a kind keyboardist. What would be the majority of songs without Dizzy????. So many people can't understand that Dizzy was so fn important part in the band. Brian May introduces him and makes me happy, because he know what kind of musician Dizzy is.
@Alejandrocc1994 Agreed. No one wanted him there. They all liked him, but didnt want him there as they became a piano band, and lost that edgy guitar band sound they had Appetite era.
Was that actually a diss towards MJ? If so i find that hilarious, because Axl's dance steps on stage seems very much influenced by the King of Pop himself!
Was that actually a diss towards MJ? If so i find that hilarious, because Axl's dance steps on stage seems very much influenced by the King of Pop himself!
@mrmojorisinable Grunge is dead? Lmao. Hell no! Even 2 say, Grunge is coming back slowy, especially since this month is the 20th anniversary of Nevermind from Nirvana ;)
Michael Jackson wasn't "gracious" (that's funny!) to Guns n' roses, he liked them, or at least he liked $la$h...the new guitar hero of that time... Hey, that makes me think of Eddie Van Halen, I'm sure you're going to say that Van Halen got huge because of the Beat it solo! Ha!
Only a fool would refuse to acknowledge Michael Jackson's immense contribution to music video history...and it's even more foolish to do so when Michael was generous enough to invite the lead guitarist from YOUR BAND to work with him, giving huge exposure to your own music.
Then again, Axl was never known for being that sensible, eh?
@garethac81 Yeah, like Guns n' roses needed Michael Jackson to get exposure. Man, Guns n' roses was simply the biggest band on the planet. Think a little before writing such things.
As popular as GNR were at that point, they weren't even close to being as popular as Michael Jackson...and furthermore, many of Michael's fans would not necessarily listen to hard rock. Seeing Slash with Michael undoubtedly gave a lot of pop fans a reason to check out GNR. When the biggest superstar on the planet does you a favour, you don't respond by dissing him - period.
"Think a little before writing"? Take your own advice please.
@garethac81 A favor? Are you kidding? Axl just didn't give a fuck about Michael Jackson. It was his right, right? By the way, I'm not sure lots of Guns n' roses fans listened to Michael Jackson. Not everybody on earth was a Michael Jackson fan. You know what? Appetite for destruction exploded in the charts long before the $las$h/Michael Jackson thing. So Guns n' roses have never needed Michael Jackson to give their music a huge exposure. So, yeah, think a little before writing, OK?
Sure, Axl has a "right" to say whatever he likes...he was still a dick for dissing MJ. The award GNR won is named after MJ because he is the greatest video maker in music history...MJ also happens to have been very gracious towards GNR. That's two reasons why Axl was a douche for saying what he did.
PS: Of course GNR didn't NEED exposure from MJ...but all artists, no matter how big, always benefit when someone bigger gives them an opportunity to reach a wider audience.
@garethac81 Once again: THEY DIDN'T GET A BIGGER EXPOSURE BECAUSE OF $LA$H PLAYING FOR MICHAEL JACKSON, OK? And by the way, Thriller wasn't a videoclip made by Michael Jackson, it was a video clip DIRECTED by John Landis. By the way, the greatest video makers in the world are the DIRECTORS of those videos, not the artists whose songs are illustrated by them.
Michael Jackson was the driving creative force behind ALL his videos. John Landis was realising MICHAEL'S ideas on the Thriller video...MJ wasn't just standing there being told what to do.
I'm tired of waiting for you to say something resembling an intelligent comment...I'm outta here.

@savagembrace axxxxxxxx... that nightrain.... can't get enough of it....... :o) i never heard anyone said that, so I thought i am the only one hahahahah
He doesn't have dreads anymore, but he does have a weird James Hetfield-style mustache. That being said, his voice is in phenomenal shape right now. Check it out:
youtube.com/watch?v=PTb-2QKILtg
He sounds better right now than he did for most of the Use Your Illusion tour back in the day.
Dizzy and Gilby are not GnR. Brian May should have just said "Axl, Slash, Duff, Matt and touring musicians, Gilby and Dizzy!"

The award given to them was the "Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award." It's only awarded to artists who have had a profound effect on video culture.

He doesn't have dreads anymore, but he does have a weird James Hetfield-style mustache. That being said, his voice is in phenomenal shape right now. Check it out:

He sounds better right now than he did for most of the Use Your Illusion tour back in the day.
