It took me about 5 attempts to finally grasp the concept behind creating buns with bobby pins. I finally get it!!! It's all about tucking the hair and bobby pin inwards into the bun toward the scalp, so the x-ray of your bun should look like asterisk. I'm sooooo happy that I now know how to make a bun. I love the look, and when I tried it the bun always had stray hairs. But now I know how to make a perfect bun. I'm surprised by how secure and stable the bun is!!! Thanks pursebuzz

You said that you have to take the bobby pin open? Notice how there is a little slot in the bobby pin.. thats how much hair the bobby pin could hold. if you open the bobby pin... you force it into holding more hair than it could hold. if you want to hold alot of hair, just use a few more bobby pins then you usually would use, but not open. Just slide them in your hair closed. If the bobby pin is open, or is holding too much hair... chances are its going to fall out. i know, im a dancer.

just an fyi, idk if you agree, but the bobby pins are supposed to be put in the other way, wavy side down. This is so the waves grip the hair underneath. I only know this because i am a dancer and in theatre and that is how we get our hair to stay with the bobby pins. lol, just try it it works really well. wavy side to scalp, straight side up
