Vibrato comes naturally. Kid forced it. He would of sounded better if he had sung it without the vibrato.

Leonard Bernstein wrote as a note in the score that the 2nd movement solo is never to be sang by a woman. Only counter tenor or boy soprano

I have sung the solo of the Chichesters Psalms this year at the "Stuttgarter Stiftsmusik-Fest" with the "Stuttgarter Kantorei" , the dirigent was Kay Johannsen. The boy ( I'm a boy too) don't hit the notes very good. It sounds a little bit dirty. And the harmonic don't works together!

I agree. As much as I respect Bernstein, I think this boy or man thing had more to do with him liking them than it did anything else. If the soloist sounds bad, who cares that it's a boy singing? This kid is WAY sharp and overdoing the vibrato. A good young girl soprano can definitely do a better job than this.

You're wrong about the "man or boy thing." Bernstein specified that a boy (or countertenor) sing the solo because the soloist is supposed to represent King David as a boy. In movement II, David's first coming into those glorious poetic & musical gifts we all remember from the Book of Psalms. I agree with you, though, that this part would probably be easier for a young soprano to sing. However, doing so would fail to fulfill Bernstein's artistic intent. Party on Garth!

we're singing this in my highschool chorus. a few of us will be going into the NYC to sing it with 2 other choirs. =]
