  • Natural Outdoor locations are excellent starting spots, and can have active paranormal energy. Public parks, hill tops, streams, woods are excelent places to start.

  • Great video thank you for sharing this information.

  • Hey i have a question, what is the exact model name of that sony camcorder you showed in your video? ive been looking for a good infrared camcorder that isnt 800 dollars ^^

  • Is your place haunted? because I spotted an orb under the window at 1:14 lol

  • @DeathReady4Ever that looked like a dust particle or a bug to me.

  • Thank you, this has been very helpful....;)

  • the iphone voice recorder is soo good. i used my iphone 3gs. I could hear my shoes squeek and an evp!!

  • @Muziify The Iphone is not made to be a voice recorder its a phone. These are just extra features. The quality is not very good or reliable for EVP compared even to a cheap $30 voice recorder. An EVP captured through a phone would never be credible. Don't take that the wrong way Im not trying to be a jerk Im just trying to help. Thanks for checking out my video.

  • @Muziify Thanks brother for taking the time to make this video!!! I'm tryin so hard to start my own paranormal group and or join a group and it seems to be impossible!!! I found your video to be very helpful !!!! I just don't know what else i can do!! Thanks Brother your awesome

  • one more thing do i have to worry about a ghost attaching itself to me

  • hey i got a few of questions first im 13 years old and i want to know if thats ok

age to go and do a little ghost hunting like at my house and grams ? also tonight

i want to a cemetery and got some pretty creepy pics i would send you them but i want on internal memory so i didnt have a SD card on has a face of a elderly man and he looked like he was from the civil war and also got what looked like energy orbs. also i got some EVPs and got like these popping noises like burst of energy

  • i have an iphone with a very good audio app on it, do you thimk that will help?

  • @metallicatampamagnet I wound not recommend using any of the iphone features for investigation. The audio is compressed and lacks the quality we need for reliable data. You can get digital voice recorders pretty cheap.

  • @screamfreak79 thanks, wal-mart has one for $25 i want

  • um can i use my cellphone on recording voices? because yesterday me and my friend hunted for ghost at school and i used my phone is it ok? and also i watched your video about E.V.P. tutorial and it worked i heard a disembodied voice but is it really that accurate?

  • @dinosquadman Cell phone recorders are not good for capturing evidence. They use a compressed format and the sound quality is poor. Its easy to record natural noises that sound like voices with cell phone recorders. Digital voice recorders can be fairly cheap. You can even use a tape recorder. Some groups only use tape recorders.

  • @screamfreak79 but when i tried to edit the sounds that i recorded like i said, i heard a disembodied voice and it was also captured on my phone and that's after i watched your tutorial on E.V.P.

  • @screamfreak79 hey i looked at ur vids i just wana say thanks and wher can i get a voice recorder like the one u showd

  • i have a question...i see alot of apps on my ipod touch for ghost hunting...do they accually work? and would it be cheaper to buy the ipod and apps rather than all the equiptment? plz email me your response through the youtube email

  • @imzpothead Non of the apps that we have tried so far seem to work. If you go to my page you will find reviews on two of them. Check my playlist that reads "Real Ghost Video Debunked." Thats where you will find them.

  • how much is a night vision camera and are all cameras usb compatible

  • @Agpalzakiller56 260-500 dollars for new one 150-300 dollars for a used one. Some have USB some do not. The hard drive cameras do.

  • umm do all voice recorders record EVP's?

  • @Mewmewsia2 Its possible. If the recorder is responsive to those types of frequencies.

  • Thank you,

I've started a group in Salisbury North, I've got five friends so far. My dad has taken us much more 6 times so far.

I like your necklace. Although, I actually don't know anything about Buddhism. Could you make a video explaining what roll your religion has in the paranormal.

    Thank you. Chris

  • @RumIslandoftheP Its a cross

  • I'lll say I don't like videos like this to be posted because it makes my group have less business :) but I have to say, your videos are absolutely dead on and you always give great pointers and tips/advice for things that people usually have to find out on their own terms, and when I say, "find out" I mean, make mistakes. Its great to know there are other paranormal investigators out there also speaking about trespassing and how it makes "our" credibility suffer. Keep it up.

  • Now that I got some members and kick ass equipment...Whats next Mike? ... Love it! Hey I like this tutorial Mike! Great Job!

  • I highly recommend audio recording while interviewing the people making a claim as you take notes on the notepad. If they give you permission to record them. So many reason why. What you capture during the investigation may collaborate and validate with the claims and it's documented... or you may pic up EVP during the interview... also you are covering your butt when the claimers bad mouth you to another group.

  • Hey great vid very informing . I have a Nikon d90 digital slr and a sony dsc-t300s would these camera,s do the trick ?

  • Both of these cameras are great. If you are also using these for video I would recommend using d90. Make sure you have enough light.

    Mike

  • Thanx saves me a lot of money not having to buy new ones .

  • MIKE. Could you please put the name and specs up of that Sony camera you show on this clip? I am about to buy a new one and I want to know. Thanks! : )

Great informative clip by the way!

  • Its the sony dcr-hc62. Its mini dv. You can still buy them new. They run about $250. You would have to order them online because most stores dont carry that model anymore.

    Mike

  • Good advice! I don't think reading ghost hunting books should be the first, I believe reading up on mythology and legends is more important.

  • that first book also has alot of good for stuff for logging i just photo copy the pages it is also very helpful

  • and thanks for sharing the video was very helpful also

  • i got the First book along time ago i thought it was the best ghost hunting book out there.

  • excellent mike

  • Thanks again for the great comments and ratings.

    Mike

  • Excellent presentation- thanks so much for sharing! :)

  • It is less about equipment as you stated, but the understanding of the use of it, the purpose of it and how to analyze the results. Such as, if the words/phrases aperture or SLR are foreign, a camera is an overstep. EMF metering equip are the most widely abused for lack of understanding. Good basic overview and appreciate the strong words about trespassing and making the rest of us look bad! Nice idea on tutorials for our TAPS generation but more details topic specific might educate better.

  • Hey Mike, thanks for sharing....I have favorited alot of you vids, they are so helpful.....great job

  • Thnks for the video. 5 stars. And don't forget to watch EVP Investigations ghost hunting adventures on Fox 8 News 2-10-10. at 10pm. Oh and you might want to keep the lights on.Annie:)

  • I will watch.

    Mike

  • also before you go and buy ghost science or whatever, id really advise reading some actual science in order to understand the difference, not that i think screamfreak is giving bad advice, but its important to start with a level head, im not ridiculing but even the title ghost science is an oxymoron, as the science of ghosts is basically theoretical, and i know of not on instance where an emf or evp can conclusively prove a haunting.

  • I agree w/ you that those going into this should explore valid scientific reasons behind alleged hauntings. (I.e.: high EMFs, infrasound, understanding the affect of radio frequencies on various devices, etc.) No legit paranormal investigator has made the claim that EVPs, EMF spikes or other phenomena PROVES there are ghosts. No one has proved ghosts exist. That is why the search for answers continues, experimenting with different theories and instruments.

  • i studied psychology in uni and ive collected literally hundreds of ghost stories over the years for a book im working on, heres what ive learned.

most hunt ghosts in the dark, from a scientific point of view this is a bad way to start, as senses are heightened adrenaline is created, fear kicks in, then imagination...this is the main cause of bogus evidence and personal experiences for many reasons, and in the stories ive collected 80% of ghosts seem to be spotted in the daytime

  • Many conduct investigations at night for practical reasons: such as most investigators and clients work for a living, and there is a reduction in contamination from external noise around most sites at night. Also, many investigations occur in places of business, so "after hours" is the most practical.

  • practical reasons are fine, if you must investigate in the dark then you must, but a lot of people just like pissing about in the dark and literally get a buzz off that, how many ghost tv shows do you see people investigate in the day, ive never seen one, out of all the ghost hunters/most haunted/ghost adventures etc, and that not because of noise or whatever in remote locations, its for atmosphere, which is a parapsychologists worse nightmare, often mediums say spirits prefer the dark..BS

  • Yes, but the vast majority of paranormal investigators don't have their own TV shows, and hopefully people realize what you see on TV is not necessarily what happens on investigations. And this discussion is about paranormal investigators and not about mediums, which many legit groups DO NOT use because any of their "evidence" is totally subjective.

  • "hopefully people realize", they dont though hehehhe thats the thing, wandering round taking hundreds of photo's of the same room, then pointing out a dust particle, or sitting asking nobody questions and hearing answers within the enhanced static you recorded, asking questions listening for tapping in response to questions, using trigger objects etc are all things that real paranormal groups do, and they do it precisely because that's what they saw on tv

  • Well then, I think you and I would agree to categorize such people as paranormal "enthusiasts" and NOT "investigators" nor "researchers". But it is misleading - especially to those who want to explore this field - to assert that is the "standard" for investigators, especially if you ignore the many science-based groups that existed before (and are critical of) the sensationalized TV shows.

  • I have always disapproved of the word 'hunting' such as in ghost hunting. It sounds threatening towards ghosts. I prefer the word , ' investigate' such as in, ghost investigator.

  • Another point in regards to buying equipment is that you can upgrade when you can afford it, I've only just now added an external microphone after recording E. V. P.s after over 2 1/2 years (ok not 'added' yet since I'm exchanging it for another one, funny how you're doing equipment review just as I was about to do MY video on that! :P ) with just using a digital recorder.

Also in regards to starting with your own pad, some places are haunted and you don't even know it!

    Good vid/points.

  • Investigators should also develop a checklist of gear to bring on the investigation, and a Video & Audio (two separate forms) chart, to record where and when events happened on the tapes during playback later. also be sure to immediately label each tape and card, dates and time, when changed out.

We also had some fun testing dowsing rods, these were made from wire coat hangers, w/ 19" X 4" dimension to them, work very well, nothing absolute BUT still...

    Good Job, Mike!

  • Awsome video Mike

  • I don't recommend using a voice recorder using usb as I have heard that the compression usb uses can remove EVP. Use male to male phono jack cable (I think that's what it's called).

  • Interesting. I have never heard that.

    Mike

  • I've never had that happen with mine, or do you mean the ones with the built-in USB only?

  • I don't think it gets rid of all EVPs I think it just get rid of some of the more subtle ones that are maybe in the background. I think it's any usb type. Not sure it's just something I heard once.

  • great mike , well worth th watch. 5 star.

  • Great info Mike, It may help to interview those who want to join your group, why? I went to an investigation once where 2 people were frightened once the lights went out. ~ 5 Stars !!!

  • @SpiritContact

I agree; also, if you don't know new members well, do a background check. People are opening their homes and exposing possessions and children to your group. So you want to protect your credibility as well as your clients.

  • Good point, something to think about.

  • as allway's good info.

  • Awsome vid~Could you tell me does your Sony night shot work in total darkness? Ours does but it is analog so we have to buy a Sony direct DVD burner so we can upload online. What are your thoughts on the ghost box and ovilus? Our website will be up soon so stop by and check it out.Blessings of love and light~

    EverySecondParanormal

  • Yes it does. We have to burn our minidv and high8 to load it as well. It works fine for video, but the audio is a little off for some reason. We use the hard drive camcorder for all of the youtube videos. We experiment with the ghost box on investigations. I have never used the ovilus. Let me know when the site is up.

    Mike

  • excellent video as usual ..great info for those new ones starting out on the search for truth 5 stars

  • Excellent video, Mike - thank you for making this. I agree with GhostHuntrsOfSo Tampa when they say every new investigator needs to watch this video. You've shared a lot of valuable information here, my friend.

Oh, and don't forget the Number One Most Important thing: SAFETY FIRST.

    5 Stars!

  • Any new investigator needs to watch this video!! Lots of very VERY useful info in this video. Love that you pointed out where to look for the Nightshot on the Sony cams. Most of the newer versions do not include this feature! GREAT WORK!

  • I also did a direct link from face book

  • Great video, Mike.

  • sweet vid man...5 stars and favoured...i have been doin some evp work and taken snaps in the local 200 yr old graveyard recently......nothing yet but im keepin trying.!!!

  • why would anybody want to hunt a ghost ?

    I investigate them only.

    capt.del

  • Same thang

    Different name

  • screamfreak79, if you were in an island alone, would you prefer that i hunt you or investigate you ? To hunt means to look for and to kill. To investigate means to simply observe. National Geographic does not hunt wildlife, it investigates it and reports it. I disagree that 'hunt' and 'investigate' mean the same thing.

  • I see what you are saying. Two different meanings but in the paranormal field they both mean the same thing. Hunt also means to search , or look for. It is impossible to investigate something that you haven't found yet; thats why I say hunting. Thanks for taking the time to comment.

    MIke

  • @fidelvis but I doubt discerning between the two means much here....

  • Great video. Good information. :)

  • thank you

  • nice job ....tazprs tech randy

  • I know Vince Wilson, I went to his group meetings a couple of times, but they are so far from me.. Great tips and ideas. Ive never heard of using Polaroids.. hmmm..

  • Some people believe that polaroid photos are harder to fake. I agree, but it is possible to take more than one picture on the same photograph. The flash bulbs on older polaroid cameras aren't as bright as the ones we use today so this means less orbs.

    Mike

  • Mike...You did Awesome Job ..thank you for sharing the Information,

  • your cross looks like the same as mine :P

  • It was a Christmas present from my Grandma. I love it.

    Mike
