@yeves1639 Basically The body is channeled, and lowered onto the axles. Its a combination of using a straight axle and channeling the body over it , moving the front end to a straight axle and attaching it to the front of the frame, and using smaller diameter tires.
Its a lot more work then it looks like. I had to sub frame the tranny mount back to the rear axle to keep flex out of the drive line so it did not throw the chain.
@musmn1313 Turf masters have the block tread, then the turf master 2 have the same block tread but are like dished out in the middle of the blocks. A lot better traction, but they wear faster then a regular TM. They are made by Carlson. Goodluck man!
@tpvalley In this video it was jsut a test. The 2nd carb cable was still there. I eventually built a linkage to run it off the gas peddle. The reason I didnt run a 2nd carb was just simplicity. The boot bolted right to the intake, and one carb is easy to tune.
My new motor is a 44cid and I have one 44mm flat slide Kikuni on it. Its a beast!
@CAMOTRUCKN Oh...the comression helps, but theres give and take. you shave the heads, and you get less combustion volume. Less air means less power. higher compression jsut means a more powerful burn at combustion. more torque.
i have custom pistons that raise the compression.
This one is running a straight axle and a 700 tranny. pretty standard racing mower setup, although i didn't realize it at the time!
@yamaharules163 Yeah I think I could have, but when this mower was built I had no Idea what the racing ass. was, or any of the rules or anything.I just was trying to kick my buddies butt on our local track. None of us had any idea anyone else was doing this! We jsut got the idea, and built some mower, then built faster mowers!
Sand the flywheel? you guys ever heard a roundslive carb idling without an aircleaner? you dont sand a cast flywheel? It a whole process to clearance the flywheel to the mags. and maybe you didnt notice, but there is no covers or anything else to rub on.. sand the fly wheel...lol!
guy i kno has a takumsi 20 horse vtwin he stroked bored milled, and put a cam in to pump out 46 horse....he said the motor was expensive but well worth it
That will start a whole lot better if you will run your flywheel back to the compression stroke. Just turn it by hand or put your mower in gear and roll it backwards. If you put a billet wheel on then you will have to with the stock starter.
32.. mikuni flatslide off of a 250 suzuki snowmobile motor! Funny hting is all I had to do was go up 2 sizes in the main jet and it ran perfect! Dumb luck back then I guess.
This one was cheap. Scrap parts, used stuff off ebay, used motor, etc...lots of mistakes, and lots of elbow grease! Now a days its very expensive... Look at building a full out 125cc class race Kart, and thats about the cost of building a full USLMRA BP class racer. Too expensive for my blood now a days! I just terrorize the neighborhood now!
yes depending on your transmission. i suppose it would need ann overflow or a breather of some kind. i was just passing on what i heard. but i just got a honda rider and it absolutely will not race...
the transmisson trick is just get all the grease out of it and fill it with a gear type oil. as much as will feasibly fit in it to keep it from overheating . just a thought.
excellent race mower. my 95 craftsman is too nice to race. but maybe someday its a 15horse 6 speed. i really would like to do a pulley swap on it and the transmission oil trick. i mean oil in the tranny.
keep in mind that the 'oil trick' that this guy is talking about is specificly for the 700 tranny. Federal Mogul has a replacement seal that fits the input and output shafts of the 700 and is an actual oil seal, and will keep the oil from getting on your belts.

actualy i had that same problem if the starter drags and it is hard to turn the flywheel that means you have to much compression clean the head(s) and remove muffler put your hand over carberator and breather (black tube if you have one) then ground jumper to frame and directly place positive on starter check for spark and it should start right up
also take apart starter and clean that also helped me!!
kindof.... I believe the trick to making a vtwin sound the best is LOOOOOONG straight pipes! the longer the better it will sound! This has like 4 feet of pipe on each side!
oh cool, yeah i might do this to the riding mower my uncle is giving me once we pull it out of the bushes, not sure what it is but its old and has them round headlights, im not gonna mow with it, just take the deck off and soup it up for like a universal tractor or somethin, lol
Yeah, I need to get the new mower out and dust it off! Its an early 60's craftsman, kinda like a mustang with a 44 cube briggs and the Techumseh tranny! LOL! I dont have aplace to di it since I moved 3 years ago! But we just bought a new house with a 40x60 shop, so next summer will be BACK into the FAST mowers!
Its not burning oil, its just super super rich from that big ol carb on there!

Theres WAY too much duration and lift in this custom cam to be holding compression!
Actually, in this video its because its running about 11:1 compression with the stock starter! this engine (after the billet flywheel was installed) would see almost 7000rpm!
Its a bone stock peerless 700 5 speed from an old john deere rear engine i pulled out of a junkyard! I ran it all summer with no problems what so ever, but i also ran my belt a little easy so the belt would be the first thing to give. I think it saved the tranny from a lot of shock loads.
hey umm do u have yahoo or any of that stuff i have a mower and i wanna build it up but i dont exactly know how im good with cars but by the loook of it ur good with mowers if u could just msg me on here and we can talk thanks
Sounds sweet- im building a modified murray- has a twin 18hp briggs with stright pipes ( i want em to exit near the back of the footrests eventually)- its basically stock( for now) other then the snap back throttle and golf kart wheels and pulleys- i plan on doing alot more to it ( lowering/widening/steering- adding a striaght rear axle) to make it more stable and faster/safer. Wicked cool tractor- too bad you dont have it anymore.
I thing the secret to the good sound is to have the pipes as long as you can get them.
The guy who owns the motor now has about 1.5 feet of pipe on it, and it just sounds like a straight pipe mower, instead of a sweet sounding V-Twin! LOL!
Thats the stock intake manifold, and i portmatched it to the rubber intake boot that the carb stuffs into....... Its a 38mm mikuni straight off a an early 70's 250 suzuki snowmobile!
i just got my snow blower back (my crazy 1) and it revs like way to high concidering how old it is im waitin for it to blow up lol ill post vid later 2night if i get some gas...its a gas guzzler
glad to see someone else turbocharging their v-twin mower. I've been doing it for a while. you can check out turbo murray search quick willis on youtube.
i have a 14 hp vanguard v twin engine and its hard to start i cleaned the carb in gunk and the fuel pump seems to be pumping gas any one no what else i can do and when i put eaither in the carb it starts but then dies out i hopeu guys can help ........DREAT VIDIO
ok thanks for the quick answer. Ya I already know about exploding 1st and 5th, I did that on my last racer(i was running a 1:2 ratio. That one was more of a learning base, this one I'm going all out.
I have a quick change gear set on the rear of my current one. Wit hte tentioner i have setup on there, i can go from a 32 tooth rear to 80 tooth rear, and it takes me about 5 minutes to change it out!
how much was your cam? i have 12.5hp vanny, its in the process of gettin motor work

also take apart starter and clean that also helped me!!
P.S. use wd-40 to clean head(s)

its probably not the compression. get the piston 1/4 from the tdc (or both valves closed) and then set your valve last at 004.

Actually, in this video its because its running about 11:1 compression with the stock starter! this engine (after the billet flywheel was installed) would see almost 7000rpm!
ibuiltmineo1oo 3 years ago
Thats awesome, knowing those details its no wonder it had a little trouble cranking lol. Nice job, sounds great out the exhaust.
showstopper540 3 years ago
thanks man! there are some guys out there making some scerious HP from these motors!

I want that sound on my mp3! Where do you get the gearbox from, i gotta 4hp briggs vertical shaft i'd like 2 get on a go kart but need a gearbox...
petrolnut 3 years ago
Its a bone stock peerless 700 5 speed from an old john deere rear engine i pulled out of a junkyard! I ran it all summer with no problems what so ever, but i also ran my belt a little easy so the belt would be the first thing to give. I think it saved the tranny from a lot of shock loads.

hey umm do u have yahoo or any of that stuff i have a mower and i wanna build it up but i dont exactly know how im good with cars but by the loook of it ur good with mowers if u could just msg me on here and we can talk thanks
ronurban 3 years ago
are you runing a muffler on it or just straight pipes?
thanks
shaunk132 3 years ago
straight 1.5 inch pipe.
ibuiltmineo1oo 3 years ago
Sounds sweet- im building a modified murray- has a twin 18hp briggs with stright pipes ( i want em to exit near the back of the footrests eventually)- its basically stock( for now) other then the snap back throttle and golf kart wheels and pulleys- i plan on doing alot more to it ( lowering/widening/steering- adding a striaght rear axle) to make it more stable and faster/safer. Wicked cool tractor- too bad you dont have it anymore.
dangeroustoys56 3 years ago
i have an oldish murry out in my shed, its like an early 90s model. culd i somehow suup it up to race?
PaterBoy17 3 years ago
sick sounding exhaust
shaunk132 3 years ago
Thanks man!
I thing the secret to the good sound is to have the pipes as long as you can get them.
The guy who owns the motor now has about 1.5 feet of pipe on it, and it just sounds like a straight pipe mower, instead of a sweet sounding V-Twin! LOL!
ibuiltmineo1oo 3 years ago
ya,i watch it every day it sounds so cool
shaunk132 3 years ago
oh! and what make of egine is that?

how can i make my hydrostatic trans mower fast
chevys10l4 4 years ago
Roll it off a cliff.....Hydro's are internally regulated, the opnly real easy way would be to swap out a 6 speed..... Easy to do.
ibuiltmineo1oo 4 years ago
