Thanks for sharing her story in such a detail. That improves other pilots decision making a lot. As she mentioned mission bias played a great role in this (and a lot of other accidents as well). It is so dangerous, but stories like this can keep this in everybody's mind.
You are an incredible person to go on, most would give up. I feel sorry for He Zhongpin and his family, that he didn’t make it. He died doing what he loves. Ewa you are an inspiration to all pilots and I would in awe to maybe meet you one day
I just feel sorry for her.. i am so glad she survied this paragliding miracal...i was shoked when she froze and she was just uncounsios for 1hr words can not explain how lucky she is...and as for her mate who got hit by lightning...i respect him to..ewa was so lucky she was above the death zonefor like 1hr what a lucky lady...i wish i could meet her and praise her for her bravnes and luckynes during this miracal...iwas realy scard at some points and it made my shut myeyes and hope for the best..
a great testimony for all to experience. He allow things to happen, and other things not to happen. man is made for pleasure in heaven, , high, vivid and fervent
not our own-made earthly pleasures, but His great design
@gummy0021 GOD and religion are two separate issues!!! To give an answer to your thought... but it is ok for this kind of people to push down others throat their belief? And yes, I do allow people believe what they want to believe (it is a choice after all), GOD lets us do that, not like catholic or muslim that do push religion down peoples throat or death! GOD and religion ARE NOT THE SAME THING!
@Pml2DarkNight You are against GOD period, and not think on what you say or took place.... our body evolved so it would shut itself down and preserv trough ruf enviorenment (10000m, -59C), canopy collapses due to ice and she free falls for 3000m and paraglide opens by itself, she comes back and lands when should be dead and you say GOD never gave her a chance.... it may be you belief- but is stupid implying a full load of luck just like the big bang crap, lucky you it happend.... dumb monkey!
What an incredible story. Stories of survival are littered with what we turn too for help. It does,nt matter if your help is your friend, a god, or luck. The will to survive is itself an incredible thing. My heart goes out to Zhongpin's family, and my best wishes go out to Ewa.
An american friend (paragliding pilot and EMT too, called David) once said me that to carry the pilot inside the selete was more safe when there's not a doctor around. I think that, in the future, with a Airbag Suit and a good selete (shell) won't be necessaire a doctor at the fall places.

This movie is a great reminder about aviation minimums. An airplane would NEVER go into a thundercloud like Ewa did. Aviation regs state that aircraft should not fly closer than 5 miles, horizontal separation. Not even fighter jocks take their aircraft into these gigantic shedders. Ewa was extremly lucky to have survived this experience. As she went up with the turbulence, she was probably subjected to at least 5 to 6 G's. Most people pass out at about 3 to 4.
@urrybr I remember soon after getting my private certificate flying a 172 when a thunderhead came around a mountain about 15 miles away (in otherwise clear skies)...on the downwind leg, the wind was 15 knots gusting to 20 straight down the runway. As I turned from base to final, the wind had the same velocity, but had reversed direction 180 degrees! Luckily UNICOM mentioned it, and I was the only one in the pattern, so I did a go around and came in from the other direction. That was a hairy day!
A3 is indicating the total altitude gain in flight. Max vario readouts in flight summary (as seen in the movie) are typically values averaged over a period of a couple of seconds. From my personal experience 15 m/s up (not in the cloud) was just stunning.
can someone explain the 3rd reading (A3: 14975m) also the vario speed reads 20,2m/s not the 40 they are talking about in part 5... is it possible that the gps didn't give correct data?
Call it what you will, divine intervention or extreme luck it's amazing she survived and came back to her parents once more. Isn't that proof of a great enough deity or lifestyle?
I'm glad she survived. It's an amazing, inspiring story.
"Show me an atheist at 20000 feet without a parachute - and i'll show you a liar"
(Or possibly Richard Dawkins)
BUT: How can anyone claim to know that He Zhongpin *didn't* entreat a god just as hard before he died?
To assume that one person survived because they prayed, and assume that another person (in the same situation) didn't pray because they died is putting the cart before the horse. By several miles. And adding a V8.
I cannot believe that all these posts I'm reading people think and imaginary supernatural God has something to do with her survival? Seriously are people still living in superstitious bronze age?
So, a survivor of an earthquake in Haiti being dragged out of the rubble, that's "god's work", yet your God get's spared from the calamity of the Earthquake in the first place that killed 250,000?
god had nothing to do with either one of these things. time and unforeseen occurence befall us all. do you really think god saved her and killed the other. noway. freak of nature is all this is.
just shy of 33,000 feet, -55deg C for 45min without any of the necessary equipment/ clothing needed to survive, paraglider not breaking either during the fast climb or during the free fall, the lines not tangling during the free fall (from 9.946km to just under 7km)
i havnt heard of anyone else surviving such conditions.
I remember when this trajedy, and amazing story of survival, happened a few years ago. I didn't know they made a movie from it. Thanks for sharing. Excellent account of the story.

They are pointing out that Ewa realised her hopless situation and called out to a higher power, and she survived.
