Been thinking of picking one of these up. You fish them same retrieves as your plugs? Warp 9 speed/just under the sound barrier!? Well that is how I fish your plugs any how. Also kinda afraid, since I have hooked up to bigger than expected fish with the 1oz size. What is the average you get with the 1.5?
@mrtoady2 Mahalos mrtoady2, actually they are easier to keep splashing on the surface but also have a nice swim at slower speeds. The size fish that have hit the 1.5 is a bit discouraging in a super adrenaline rushing sorta way. I have been cut off several times. :) I'm now experimenting with hollow core braid and using 20' leaders. Hope I can land one of those beasts I see lurking and threatening to chomp my lure.
Gettin some good distance on those casts! Just picked up one of your lures today, cant wait to throw em out!
Wanted to ask tho, do you crimp the barbs on your lures? I try to practice catch and release, and I figured crimping it would make it easier for me to unhook the fish with minimal stress/damage. Also, do you close the bail before the lure hits the water? To minimize the slack line? I'd be nervous throwing it near coral, hate to snag it on a high coral head
@Eeban808 Mahalos, I crimp about half way. I need all the help I can get. On the small lures, 1/8-1/4 I crimp hard when I can remember. No on closing the bail early. If there's a big loop I will sometimes close slightly early. Snagging is a real concern for all lures especially sinkers. Main thing is know your terrain. Stuff happens so be safe!
