  • Are there tabs for this specific version online? Also, is there an album with him singing this and not the older one from the 60s? I like this version a lot more.

  • The song Four in the Morning was written by Robin Remaily and was first released by Jesse Colin Young in 1964. Euphoria was also written by Robin Remaily! Respect! nice job Jesse.

  • Incredible talent...... Not to berate the new generations, but I just wonder what happened to those "supercharged" atmospheres of the 60's and 70's? I sometimes think that it is because that my generation didn't realize how tall and vicious were the giants that would eventually confront them, entrenched as they are in every realm.......

  • My favorite. Am so looking forward to seeing him this Thursday in Arlington MA. I do hope he plays this one and so many others. :-)

  • Excellent upload and song!!

  • Jesse still sounds great! A unique beautiful and soulful voice. Great guitar playing too!!

  • Now I'm finally feeling the song and all that it meant. Whew. What a difference time makes.

  • He is such an amazing artist...love this live version very much! Thanks :)

  • It doesn't get much better than this.

  • Nice solo version, but the Ant Trip Ceremony is my favorite version, it's not easy to find but I think youtube used to post it. grittier sounding

  • Dynamite! Pure dynamite! The message, sound, class & guitar playing are all pure gold! This is the kind of music,I can listen to all day long!

    Thank You,for sending me this!!

  • What an amazing message....he's a tremendous artist! Just can't get enough of his music!!! Agree the "despair" he sings about can touched, felt .... great,

    great artist!!! thank you. 10*

  • Love this song! The lyrics and the way he sings them make the despair palpable.

  • Interesting its the same chord changes as "Hey Joe" C-G-D-A-E

  • although if u play keys to it, there's underlining complexities.....or so it seems.....especially with the youngbloods version........hard to figure out exactly what's going on.

  • I always of this song as an early version of 'hey joe", the chord changes and even the lyrics lend to the idea.

I"m guessing this song was written before "hey joe."

  • I was responding to "jleoblues" comment.

    =)

  • @unclemeat2u I would think so, having heard it for the first time on Spring Street below the Village in 1966 in a cheapo apartment in what was still the meat-packing district. Think it was "Soul of a City Boy," but it was an older worn album even then. I traded it for an almost new PDR.

  • "Soul of a City Boy", yeah, that's the one. That got a lot of record play in my first apartment!

    :)

  • Love this song! Didn't John Fahey record it too?

  • What a legend. One of my all time favorite songwriters!

  • great song jesse, Bo youngblood york sc

  • Saw him in 1976 - Stanley Theatre - Pittsburgh PA . Saw him this past Sat. night , June 6th 2009 in Frederick MD. Stil had the crowd ROCKIN!!!! We love you Jesse!!! Go Vito, Connie and band!!!!! The entire band ROCKED!!!!!! Awesome show!!!

  • Amazing voice and lyrics!

    Thank you!

  • Its 4 in the morning 2009. One graying old man pecks away at a keyboard while he watches a balding old man turn the switch on a time machine shaped as a guitar.

And suddenly a thin young man watches another thin young man sing the truth.

  • Thanks for posting. Lovely tune. Seminal figure

  • Just came accross this - haven't heard this in so many years - when I used to listen to it at 4 in the morning......just beautiful

  • I just love this acoustical version. It takes this song to a whole other level. It sounds beautiful.

  • You haven't lost a step, Jesse.

Saw you in 1967 at Le Hibou in Ottawa and have been wanting to see you again ever since. You were the best band I've ever seen ( and I've seen some great ones).

  • Your comment hit me like a lightning bolt. Three generations beg me to talk about Woostock, the first and second Stones tour, the White Album, JImi, John Mayall, Procul Harum,Cream,Janis Jopin, Frank Zappa.

and I gently enourage them to listen to the Youngbloods

  • What a joy to hear this! Indeed, it takes us full circle.

  • have you go Morning sun. this is a fantastic song but cant find it anywhere on mp3

  • still beautiful, jesse

  • The album this song came from is amazing. A must for Jesse fans. Give you chills.

  • Long time hit

Back when there were more possibilities

Now I would look forward to four in the morning
