This particular virus was a mild one as the video author points out. The ones that were particularly bad, were the ones that attempted to overwrite the master boot record. If a program succeeded in doing that, then it meant a serious problem. This is because you could easily infect your bootdisks in trying to do a clean install. So everything had to wiped clean first.

Few viruses ever get any notoriety. The only one I ever saw make it around to almost everyone I knew was the happy99 virus.

@Ripspawnguild you can get the smileys by pressing [alt]+1 and [alt]+2 (on the keypad) whenever you are on a windows machine using a text processing program. to look at the "vintage" ones, those from the vid, do windows-key and R, enter cmd, hit enter and repeat said [alt] procedure. due to a different resolution in newer cmd, the smilies may appear a bit fatter. with the alt-key combination you can ☺☻ ♥ ♦ ♣ produce all standard keymap non-alphabetical symbols.

Depends on if you want to make a career of hacking for yourself, if it's something you're interested in, definitely look into it. They have the festivals in Las Vegas every year to see who can crack or break into a hardened operating system such as some of the newer versions of Windows and Linux. They use a live CD tool set called Backtrack and it's got a difficult learning curve to it, I don't even know how all it works.

Reinstall MS-DOS? no! boot from a *write protected* dos boot floppy and execute FDISK /MBR then SYS C:, and if you have win 3.1 installed or 95 you will need to take more care. good old days of no-double-click computing!
