  • I also landed a few times at Kai Tak airport in Hongkong in the late 80's and early 90's - it was always fun as you could look out of one side of the plane and see people eating in an apartment and see the same thing looking out the other side - the airport was also conveniently close to downtown. Now long gone. I also took off a few times too - also exciting - one time an Air China plane took off almost vertically in a thunder storm (you have to clear the mountains across the harbour).

  • awesome

  • man, how did the people sleep at night? lol

  • @dookiekong007 Planes will not be allowed to land or take off after 12 am

  • @dookiekong007

    in bed?

  • @planesvideo wow...

  • @dookiekong007 Probably adjusted to the noise over time :) Sometimes I think I'd love to live somewhere like that but when I think about it, day after day the novelty probably would wear off!

  • This video sure brings memories.. i've landed at Kai Tak twice when i was a teen, and the feeling was SPECTACULAR! and the place where we stayed was also (more or less) close to the point where the planes would make that bank, which provided an AWESOME view! man.. too bad i didn't record any of them. the airport is no longer there.. sad, it had so much character but it'll live on forever in our hearts!

  • Any pilot who flew wide-body planes to jumbo planes to Kai Tak airport has truly earned their wings.

  • ничего себе

  • 0:38 Old and new Cathay Pacific in Kai Tak??? Lol

  • @Batman2650 The new livery came out before the airport closed in 1998

  • Pause at 0:32. Is there really that much traffic in Hong Kong?

  • 3:54 the swiss no how to land a plane!

  • @Andrewawesome123 true dat right on the marker

  • @Andrewawesome123 soo rightt faill

  • y did it close.... lol

  • @Andrewawesome123 severe winds, they made a bigger better airport about 20 miles away and it had very very good weather monitoring equipment, possibly the best in the world :-)

and the airport was made on a man made island, specially made for the airport xD

  • wtf the please you stand at is the graveyard wtf....that's a bad place to take a vid...

  • 3:14 - WOAH!

  • 3:44 It's all heavies parked at the gates

  • how heavy does the plane need to be to be called heavy?

  • Hmm. Basically any plane bigger than a 757-200 is considered heavy.

  • ty for telling me!

  • i think 767 and dc-10 are not heavies

  • I know the 787 is heavy. Depending on the weight, 767s and DC-10s could be heavy. Either of them if they're fully loaded are heavy. But empty, they're not.

  • That was an excellent video. I regret being too young to have made it Kai Tak, as I would have done the exact same as you: film landings from these awesome lookouts (I noticed for one -you were in a cemetery even)

  • im not being illegal and you dont have to tell, but how old are you now to be too young to have made it kai tak?

  • This is the best Kai Tak video I have ever seen. And no stupid annoying music... just the beauty of the jet engines roaring.

  • Five stars from me, because you put video without music. Great!!!

  • Very nice! Miss you Kai Tak!

By chance, did you take a video of Kai Tak's closure?

  • best view of Kaitak. 5 stars!

  • cool video. without any music. that's nice. catches the whole athmosphere very good
