I personally love the Scarab boats by Wellcraft. Forget specific roles - if you want any boat in any class they build, Scarab is awesome. It's the only boat I'd ever want to buy.
Hard to tell what this dude has under the hatches, chances are it's not the power added when built in '86 or '87. Back then, the standard motors from Mercruiser for the Scarab KV were around 400 HP, and that's being generous. Likely been repowered and now maybe even staggered. Once he got on plane that rooster tail loomed up, and I think the drives are surface piercing which generally accounts for that. Again, I'm speculating.
@Goodshaft he didnt put this video on here just to hear shit like this from you. he did it so people who wanna look up boats like this will find it and enjoy it. not hearin people say that theirs will go faster! Fuck off
@Goodshaft Mr. Good shaft, there are many boat companies that run 120 PLUS. Today is the Tickfaw 200 and there will be many boats there in the 160 mph range. I dont know what youre trying to prove here or if you even know what youre talking about?? Given a powerful enough set of engines and the outdrives to handle them, this well craft that youre picking on can be made to run 120 as well.
Unreal, like a formula 1 car on water. I have a 21ft Wellcraft with a 5.0ltr but nothing in this league. One day maybe. Love your 38kv, keep it flat out.
Those are Mercury #6 drives, which are a cleaver style prop. On plane, anywhere from a 1/5th to a 1/3rd of the prop is out of the water. They are considered "surface piercing" props.
No problem with the overall geometry of a #6 drive's prop location in relation to the rear pad, compared with the old geometry? Did you have to play around with various extension boxes, or did you just re-do the entire transom then mount the drives?

wonder they stopped making scarab...cauze all those fountains, donzi's, mti's and nor-tech put then to shame. I have a bow rider that could take this boat!
The original "Vice boat" did 48 knots, which was quite good for a boat of this lenght and weight. The boat was in Finland for many years, and i managed to have a testdrive while it was here.
Thanks for the info Mickey! IMO still one of the best looking boats ever made. 54 knots, hmm somebody propably made an upgrade on the engines or cleavers? Do you know who owns it these days? It was is eastern Helsinki for many years..

What drives are on that boat? Did some of the KV's come with Speedmasters?
sbmellentine 3 years ago
There are SSM 6's.
I re-rigged the boat two years ago, from 454's and TRS's to the current set up with N/A 598/750's and 6's.
There are some pics from the re-rig on my website NorthOffshore, but it seems impossible to put up a link here...

The boat is still here and did 54 knots driven properly...and there is at least 2 more Real MV boats around, One In Norway and one in USA.
The one in Finland was Don Johnsons private boat.
