You are misleading, the word to use is not "just", it was not simply - just an M48 with a different gun, the L7 gun is a great step up from previous guns on the M48. As well as what you mentioned, new engines, transmissions and armour upgrades were installed, all this adds up to an impressive upgrade. While not as advanced as the T-72, it should be noted that mainly Merkava and upgraded M60 tanks were used in Lebanon, 1982, not Magach-3, infact I have never heard of a Magach-3 engaging a T-72.

WMD Russia wins by far but America leads in MIRV technology and SLBMs/cruise missile technology. Politically Europe would be shitting their pants without NATO and defense from Russia, however they don't really need them today. There's too many factors to list but you obviously ignored the compromises.

WMD power doesn't matter since America has the second biggest stockpiles in the world and it none of those two countries would survive to fire all their nukes. The US armed forces deploys more heavy and more technological tanks and vehicles then the PLA, the PLA has today around 7000 tanks and only 1000 is capable of giving the Abrams a challenge.

Concerning APS, it was in the Soviet Union where the first active protection systems were designed and applied on tanks, these systems were also combat tested, notably Drozd in Afghan, later systems were Drozd-2, Arena and Shtora, which is present on the T-90 tanks. APS may be something new and futuristic for Isreal, however it is nothing new for East block armies.

I have heard of T-72 tanks being engaged by Merkavas as well as upgraded M60 tanks, but never "old M48". Arena is not being installed on Russian tanks, Shtora is, instead of Arena, K5 armour is excellent at defeating RPG rockets and that combined with Shtoras jamming ability, you have very effective protection, Drozd on the other hand was extremely cheap.

MatanG2, I have not heard of Magach-3 in service in Lebanon war, 1982, besides, this is far from what you first stated, these are upgraded models, not "old M48 tanks" as you described them, as a matter of fact, after the US shipped M60 tanks to Isreal prior the Lebanon war, 1982, Isreal overhauled it's entire tank force, it was extensively upgraded before the war, there was no such a thing as "old M48 tanks" destroying T-72 tanks, Isreali tank forces were well modernised before the invasion.

You are misleading, the word to use is not "just", it was not simply - just an M48 with a different gun, the L7 gun is a great step up from previous guns on the M48. As well as what you mentioned, new engines, transmissions and armour upgrades were installed, all this adds up to an impressive upgrade. While not as advanced as the T-72, it should be noted that mainly Merkava and upgraded M60 tanks were used in Lebanon, 1982, not Magach-3, infact I have never heard of a Magach-3 engaging a T-72.

Yes, upergrated M60 was used but T72 was "better" according to the Russian propoganda it was newer and it's still one of the best tanks that in service in the russian army (after T90 and T80 when T90 it's a upgrading of T72)

It was better, but thanks to superior Isreali training and tactics, its superiority was overall surpassed. T-72B and T-72BM are very effective tanks, better than first T-80 production models, however T-80U surpasses them, on top of that there is the T-80UD and T-80UK and the T-72BU which was later the T-90 and at this point T-90S and T-90A, but this is pointless, back to the point - there were no "old M48 tanks" destroying T-72 tanks in Lebanon, from what I see, your claim is groundless.

i think you misinteprete the reality. there are ties ( not strong though) between Russia, China, and Iran. they are based on common interests, first of all, economical. why very often do positions of Russia and Chine not meet the american position? because american decisions were always made strictly on the ground of their needs and motivations followed by the try to impose them by any means possible. that's irritating and unacceptable for many countries, not just Russia and China.
