Mimi is 19 years old, she sounds the most like a 19 year old girl of all of the Mimi's I have seen. Don't be so harsh and enjoy this great show. The message is still there and that is all that truly matters

I am in an acting class that's doing the watered down school version of RENT and the girls who are playing Mimi do a much better job than Vanessa. She needs a little more practice before attempting Mimi again. No offense to any Vanessa fans or Vanessa herself!

She did a great job in my opinion. In regards to comparissons to Rosario, people are forgetting that Vanessa not only had to sing live, but had to dance difficult coreography while Rosario recorded it in a studio and was lip-syncing. Live performances are tough acts to do, and she isn't getting nearly enough credit as she deserves.
Honestly guys You should only comment on how bad her singing was if you were put in her shoes. Obviously the director casted her for her dancing AND her singing. If she's supposed to be singing a note on an E and instead she sings a C#, that is technically incorrect and a genuine error. As the pitch of a note can, in fact, be measured with mathematics, saying that she sings this song well is as incorrect like saying that two and two make three.
Well, for Vanessa´s defense, dancing while singing is really really hard!!! You can barely breath to bring out your voice. Her movements were good, she was supposed to be sexy and wild, and she was. And also, I´m amazed that she can hit those high notes even when shes dancing so much.

vanessa was good. play this video with the other mimi's and I think you will be surprised that she carries it off. The whole cast didn't have the same edge - they all brought different sides to the characters. Vanessa's was younger and impressionable.

@REDDEVIL2991 the original, Daphne, was not such a great singer although she was a great Mimi. Vanessa actually hit nots Daphne could not like in La Vie Boheme, although Vanessa does need work with other notes so did the others.

I went to all three shows. I do not think that she did a good job any of the nights. She just didn't do it for me as MImi. I don't know... In my opinion, she was not vocally cut out for Mimi. It is such a hard role to play because of the vocals and the dancing and emotion and I just think that she wasn't cut out for it. Too hard for her I guess.
@writemeastory I do agree, the broadway version is amazing, but lets not forget while broadway actors get to fix theyre mistakes, and learn better things to do, and have more preactice Neil only had two weeek rehersals, and only 3 nights of show. The first show was the first run actors had with lights and everything. Live the show was amazing, video doesnt do much justice. But at the end of the say even though non were perfect they did the best and it truely works.
I was there all three nights. The show as a whole was great, but Vanessa was not impressive. Also, I am an actress, and giving your actors 10 days of rehearsals for a major production is just irresponsible on Neil's part. Thankfully, it worked out, but it is not excuse for the fact that Vanessa is not vocally capable to play Mimi. He should have looked into different casting. That's just what I think.

@mikockla As much as I hate to be a music snob, you're right. Some things you can be subjective about, but not the ability to match pitch. If she's supposed to be singing a note on an E and instead she sings a C#, that is technically incorrect and a genuine error. As the pitch of a note can, in fact, be measured with mathematics, saying that she sings this song well is as incorrect like saying that two and two make three.

Well, for Vanessa´s defense, dancing while singing is really really hard!!! You can barely breath to bring out your voice. Her movements were good, she was supposed to be sexy and wild, and she was. And also, I´m amazed that she can hit those high notes even when shes dancing so much.

i give it to the girl for getting out there and trying something new, but she is just not mimi. it's a tough role to play especially because of the vocals. the coreography is not very good either, but she can't be blamed for that. i mean she is not the worst mimi, but certainly not the best either.

vanessa was good. play this video with the other mimi's and I think you will be surprised that she carries it off. The whole cast didn't have the same edge - they all brought different sides to the characters. Vanessa's was younger and impressionable.

@REDDEVIL2991 the original, Daphne, was not such a great singer although she was a great Mimi. Vanessa actually hit nots Daphne could not like in La Vie Boheme, although Vanessa does need work with other notes so did the others.

I went to all three shows. I do not think that she did a good job any of the nights. She just didn't do it for me as MImi. I don't know... In my opinion, she was not vocally cut out for Mimi. It is such a hard role to play because of the vocals and the dancing and emotion and I just think that she wasn't cut out for it. Too hard for her I guess.

@writemeastory I do agree, the broadway version is amazing, but lets not forget while broadway actors get to fix theyre mistakes, and learn better things to do, and have more preactice Neil only had two weeek rehersals, and only 3 nights of show. The first show was the first run actors had with lights and everything. Live the show was amazing, video doesnt do much justice. But at the end of the say even though non were perfect they did the best and it truely works.

I was there all three nights. The show as a whole was great, but Vanessa was not impressive. Also, I am an actress, and giving your actors 10 days of rehearsals for a major production is just irresponsible on Neil's part. Thankfully, it worked out, but it is not excuse for the fact that Vanessa is not vocally capable to play Mimi. He should have looked into different casting. That's just what I think.
