I really hate reading about and hearing people giving Fedor a hard time because of how he performed this year. Yeah, he went down a few times, but he went a little over nine years without losing. He is and has been great and has nothing left to prove. In my humble opinion, he is the greatest MMA fighter ever.

Fedor, when he was at his highest (23-31), he proved that a "little" (for a heavy-weight) chubby guy could have the strength, explosion, inteligence e amazing technique that could beat all kind of fighters, even the best on the ground or the best on their feet, but more importantly, the best in the arts of MMA.

Fedor should be a light heavyweight, really, but I don't think he'd stand a chance ni that division. From 2003-2006 he was the best heavyweight in the world, there is no doubt, and since Lesnar's last two fights I have few doubts he would beat Lesnar, because Lesnar cannot take punches.
I think Overeem would smoke him. Velasquez? Maybe, though that's really a question of strengths - we don't know how Velasquez would do against someone with a real bottom game. Who knows, but he's past it.
He won't stand a chance? Are you kidding me? He knocks out heavyweights! His punching power for the LHW division would be off the charts. He also has the best submissions of any LHW currently within title contingent. Velasquez doesn't have as good of a ground game nor does he pack as much dynamite in his hands, so Fedor would beat him standing and on the ground. Overeem has never really beaten anybody worth writing about so for now he is the striker's equivalent of Brock Lesnar to me.
I never said Overeem's striking is bad. I said he is like Brock Lesnar because he is big and strong, I included striker because he's a striker not a wrestler. And two out of the three guys you mentioned he lost to not won against. Plus they are kickboxers NOT MMA fighters, there's a big difference between the two. So yes I am still behind every word I said, he has not beaten anybody really worth writing about.
@apax5terminator The Bonjasky fight ought to have been a draw and gone to another round. He got screwed by bad judges. Also, he's 1-1 with Badr Hari. He also murdered Glover Texeira.
Overeem has a far more complete skillset than lesnar, he also won the ADCC European trials with every matchending by submission.
He isn't what I can call a skilled submission fighter, he mainly relies on his strength and his standing guillotine choke. There's a difference in his "skills" when you compare him to the likes of Nog, Werdum, and Fedor. However I take back my comparison of him and Brock. Overeem is a lot more experienced and he did have a few good wins, the wins were just over shadowed by his devastating losses to many high level fighters in dramatic fashion.
@apax5terminator It's really hard to peg where Overeem is at now. YES, he lost when he was fighting at light heavyweight. He is also just WAY TOO BIG for LHW. In many of the fights he lost, he was winning until he gassed due to the 25 pounds of water he was cutting.
It happened in the Liddel match, and it happened in the Grand Prix Shogun match, which he was winning 'till that point (though I think Shogun is better overall). Fedor v Overeem would be awesome if Fedor stops ducking him.
I'm pretty sure Fedor isn't ducking anyone, it was always his managers, and I believe they want that match with Overeem now, but it probably wouldn't happen anytime soon. At least not until Overeem is done with all that K1 stuff. I want to see Overeem versus Cain, because I think their styles make for a good fight. If Fedor fought smart I have no doubt of him pulling a submission victory over Overeem, but he's probably going to stand and bang and risk losing.
@50195876 He's not ducking him. Fedor has come out and said he wants to fight Overeem before 2011, but that's unlikely because Overeem is now involved in K1. Scott Coker has said that instead of fighting Overeem this year, they're going to line up someone to fight Fedor before the end of 2010 and then maybe have Fedor vs Overeem at some point in 2011.
there will always be ppl who will be challenging him. thats just the way it is. old lion gets chanllenged by the young lion. but fedor is and will always be a legend and no one can take that away. 31 straight wins...no one else can compare. i would love to see him up against velasquez and his rematch with werdum, which i thought was pure luck and mistake. long live the last emperor!

Fedor should be a light heavyweight, really, but I don't think he'd stand a chance ni that division. From 2003-2006 he was the best heavyweight in the world, there is no doubt, and since Lesnar's last two fights I have few doubts he would beat Lesnar, because Lesnar cannot take punches.
I think Overeem would smoke him. Velasquez? Maybe, though that's really a question of strengths - we don't know how Velasquez would do against someone with a real bottom game. Who knows, but he's past it.

He won't stand a chance? Are you kidding me? He knocks out heavyweights! His punching power for the LHW division would be off the charts. He also has the best submissions of any LHW currently within title contingent. Velasquez doesn't have as good of a ground game nor does he pack as much dynamite in his hands, so Fedor would beat him standing and on the ground. Overeem has never really beaten anybody worth writing about so for now he is the striker's equivalent of Brock Lesnar to me.

I never said Overeem's striking is bad. I said he is like Brock Lesnar because he is big and strong, I included striker because he's a striker not a wrestler. And two out of the three guys you mentioned he lost to not won against. Plus they are kickboxers NOT MMA fighters, there's a big difference between the two. So yes I am still behind every word I said, he has not beaten anybody really worth writing about.

@apax5terminator The Bonjasky fight ought to have been a draw and gone to another round. He got screwed by bad judges. Also, he's 1-1 with Badr Hari. He also murdered Glover Texeira.
Overeem has a far more complete skillset than lesnar, he also won the ADCC European trials with every matchending by submission.

He isn't what I can call a skilled submission fighter, he mainly relies on his strength and his standing guillotine choke. There's a difference in his "skills" when you compare him to the likes of Nog, Werdum, and Fedor. However I take back my comparison of him and Brock. Overeem is a lot more experienced and he did have a few good wins, the wins were just over shadowed by his devastating losses to many high level fighters in dramatic fashion.

@apax5terminator It's really hard to peg where Overeem is at now. YES, he lost when he was fighting at light heavyweight. He is also just WAY TOO BIG for LHW. In many of the fights he lost, he was winning until he gassed due to the 25 pounds of water he was cutting.
It happened in the Liddel match, and it happened in the Grand Prix Shogun match, which he was winning 'till that point (though I think Shogun is better overall). Fedor v Overeem would be awesome if Fedor stops ducking him.

I'm pretty sure Fedor isn't ducking anyone, it was always his managers, and I believe they want that match with Overeem now, but it probably wouldn't happen anytime soon. At least not until Overeem is done with all that K1 stuff. I want to see Overeem versus Cain, because I think their styles make for a good fight. If Fedor fought smart I have no doubt of him pulling a submission victory over Overeem, but he's probably going to stand and bang and risk losing.

@50195876 He's not ducking him. Fedor has come out and said he wants to fight Overeem before 2011, but that's unlikely because Overeem is now involved in K1. Scott Coker has said that instead of fighting Overeem this year, they're going to line up someone to fight Fedor before the end of 2010 and then maybe have Fedor vs Overeem at some point in 2011.

there will always be ppl who will be challenging him. thats just the way it is. old lion gets chanllenged by the young lion. but fedor is and will always be a legend and no one can take that away. 31 straight wins...no one else can compare. i would love to see him up against velasquez and his rematch with werdum, which i thought was pure luck and mistake. long live the last emperor!
