  • I personally loved the direction they took with Watershed.

  • They're talented, no doubt about that. But, I just could never get used to this style.

  • what I liked about opeth is that they were heavy, but they had clean vocals as well. it was an awesome balance of light and heavy. this is good, but completely different.. an acid trip maybe

  • Interesting. I don't dislike it, but it's not what I expected from Opeth. I think that if a band changes so drastically it should call it quits and start a new band. I saw them live not too long ago, they came out in bell bottom pants. I expected to hear a lot of the new stuff, the only old stuff they played was off the damnation album. they didn't play ANY of their heavy stuff. i heard a rumor that the record label made him sign a contract saying he wouldn't scream anymore.dont know if its true

  • 5:11 to 5:30 Am I the only one hearing a reference to Metropolis pt 1 from Dream Theater?

  • @sebisman2 No, you're not the only one :D

  • travis barker is a way better drummer than this guy.

  • @allnightdwight

dafuq? dude.. go fuck yourself O.o

  • @allnightdwight Hrm, you're tonedeaf. I'll have to make sure to mention to people that this could be one of the side effects from lobotomies.

  • @allnightdwight you are kiding…..right?

  • Where are the Blast Beats Mikael promised me Blast Beats what is this this isn't music

  • JEEZ!

SINCE WHEN METAL FANS TURN SO GAY AND BITCHY!

don't like the new songs?? who said your opinnion matters??

    ...

go talk shit somewhere else, this ain't lil gayne or weed khalifa shit videos son! THIS IS OPETH!

NOW GO MOAN SOMEWHERE ELSE!!! :D

  • gonna buy that CD for my father - hes an old rock stone. think he'll love it anyway!

  • Their new album caught me off guard,I was expecting something a little different as it is their way with each album, but this came out of nowhere,I wasn't expecting this, but then again, that's a good thing I suppose.

  • Proud to be uruguayan :)

  • @deebokid be quiet and go get some independancy.

  • Next album may be more crunchy then what we can imagine, just put on your seat belts. Opeth is one hell of a ride.

  • what's the noise at 6:38?

  • I'm new to the Opeth fanwagon. I've heard them before, but this album has turned me on to them. I can tell they've changed a lot over the course of their carreer, but I'm the kind of person who respects that. Bands have a duty to their fans and themselves, and the best ones answer the call to both. That's my opinion. Not that anyone was asking...

  • The Old Álbuns are better....

  • Opeth reminds me of a metal Kansas in the way that their songs are so fun to listen to.

  • Amazing rifff. but hard to play

  • @SirMooseCraft actually not too hard after you get it to your muscle memory :) Just learned :)

  • It doesnt even mean you have to like this album if you dont, but at least respect the band for taking a chance and trying something different. The same with like In Flames, who Im seeing in a week. In Flames will never touch their 90s albums, but I respect that they didnt just remake those albums over and over. People might not like new In Flames and Opeth as much as their older shit (Im the same) but I still got love for bands trying to stay fresh and not please their old fans.

  • Think of it this way, bands like Slayer have barely changed at all since they started and thats why anything they released after Seasons seems like the same ol same ol Slayer. They peaked in the late 80s and, dabbled in some Nu Metal in the late 90s, and then returned to writing poor mans 80s thrash. Slayer's newer albums are OKAY, but again its nothing different. No progression. If people like that then thats cool, but I prefer my bands to show some progression in some way, good or bad.

  • Im going to see Opeth and Mastodon together in a couple months. These are two bands who have changed alot over their careers, and I respect that. Some people dont like how they've softened up a little bit lately, but what else do you want them to do? They're pushing 40 and might not be as angry as they were 10 years ago. It happens.

Opeth isnt stopping you from listening to Still Life and Blackwater Park if you want to. You want them to make those albums over and over? Id rather them change.

  • @Nunzi1001 Everything about mikael akerfeld is amazing. His music, his lifestyle, and this thoughts. He is a brilliant man and I respect everything he does musically. The Heritage album is so far, like every other Opeth album released, my favorite Opeth album. I appreciate the change, and respect his choice to change.

  • @Nunzi1001 two of my fav bands!

  • wooooow nuevo estilo, pero es mas, sencillo así dejar salir a fuera lo que les queda de música

ami me gusta, si lo de death metal nunca se les quitara

  • I'm loving the new stuff. This album, like all of the others, is unique in it's own way, and developing into a new sound.

  • I might get to see this band tour with Mastodon... I'm new to Opeth so I don't know what songs to expect them to play... :/

  • @818KLOWNER pray for the leper affinity

  • @818KLOWNER

Death metal with some prog mixed in.

  • @818KLOWNER opeth will play some of their softer songs. porcelain heart, harvest, a bunch from this album.

  • solo reminds of "dont fear the reaper"

  • @IronBoundNorge Yeah, it really does! :)

  • Artists aren't only trying to make you happy. You probably wont love every single song of every single album so that is why you focus on the stuff you do like. My favorite albums are Damnation and Orchid, but I respect everything they do.

  • GGRREAT SONG !!!

    Very inspiring and amazing

  • @MlKEPORNTOY I disagree. Opeth is hardly a collection of prog clichés. With roots in Death Metal and growling lyrics for over 20 years, the Prog Death Metal genre was more or less created around the likes of Opeth.

While some of it is seemingly shallow, it is intentionally so. Heritage is not a new direction, it's a revelation, a message to fans 'hey, were gonna try some new shit!, hope you stick around to see what else might come.' I wouldn't be surprised by anything they come up with. Cheers.

  • @dlgtech2011 well said i feel the same..i love these musicians theyve stuck true to themselves and to the relationship a human being should have with music

  • @dlgtech2011 you speak the truth my friend.

  • @dlgtech2011 check out a band called Death. their album called "the sound of perseverance", i think started progressive death metal

  • @dreamtheaterfan360 good shit \../ tho not my favorite vocal style

  • @dlgtech2011 yeah that was the only album where they did the high pitched shrieks

  • @dreamtheaterfan360 i think they started with the album before that, Symbolic.

  • @dlgtech2011 Created around Opeth? More like created around Human and Piece of Time.

  • @ScreamxBloodyxGore Every band has influences. The entire genre is not big enough for there to be not to a lot of pioneering, sharing, and imitation from every direction. Don't be so quick to take what I said out of context... I didn't say it was created by Opeth. I said 'by the likes of Opeth' meaning, including other similar artists. This was in response to someone labelling people's interest in Opeth as invalid because Opeth isn't Rush. Hope that helps expand on my earlier post. Cheers.

  • @MlKEPORNTOY No.

  • @theartofthecovenant please tell me you realised that was actually Mike Portnoy. look at the name it's mikePORNtoy. FYI Portnoy's account is MikePortnoyDT1.

  • @TheNannySkexis wasn't

  • @TheNannySkexis Thank you.

  • @MlKEPORNTOY did you really just say that RUSH is superior to opeth?? really?? go burn.

  • @XKnightLeonX Well to be fair, Rush is a legendary band, it's just personal preference. I don't think they're "below" Opeth in any way, even though I like Opeth better

  • @LufsyLurqy Yeah, I feel like this too... I love Rush, but it's a different genre all together. I think Three (another awesome band) would be more comparable to Ru sh style and sound wise.

  • @XKnightLeonX Rush are superior to pretty much everyone. It's heresy to think otherwise. I'm sure Opeth would agree.

  • @RotnRoll77 Amen to that.

On this album there´s soooooo much 70´s prog elements. Mostly Gentle giant included on this song. And there´s that alex lifesons trademark F#m with ope b and e . Man that´s a nice chord.

  • @RotnRoll77 just because a band is old does not make them good, the only way i can enjoy rush is if i am stoned off my ass.

  • @XKnightLeonX Then you sir apparently do not know how to enjoy yourself.

  • @MlKEPORNTOY Stop talking bullshit and go to play with your dildo....

  • i love the new stuff. can't wait to see this live

  • @corinnelouiseo I saw it a few months ago. I assure you it's even better live. The crowd singing along, the guitars even grittier than the album version, it's all just so magnificent.

  • Big fan of this new direction....

  • 1. Opeth will always be more interesting to listen to than 95% of all the other musci out there, no matter what they decided to do.

    2. While Heritage does have it's merits, I still prefer Still Life/Blackwater Park's writing and epic feel.

    3. I haven't been listening to Opeth for very long now, but few songs have hit me the way the last three songs of Still Life and the acoustic break in Bleak have. Heritage just doesn't have the same impact on me.

  • just opeth is being better everytime not like all bands

  • hmmmm

  • I hate myself D: i dont like this song to much but i still push the like button :B

  • jellyfag deathcore fans are jelly cause Opeth decided to take a clear route. Makes me laugh everytime.

  • going to see these guys april 21st in corpus... CANT WAIT

  • @xxxbeastinitxxx its the 27th just saying lol i thouth it was on the 21st

  • I'm glad this album is clean vocals. As much as I like Opeth, I think they sound much better with clean vocals as opposed to the guttural growling of some of their other works

  • Now I finally have it figured out...

This song is like a really stylistic overture to the 1920's

  • Comment removed

  • epic album

  • omg,the solo makes me feel like im having climax.but its too short.

  • it's amazing how opeth made a fucking huge jump from their metal career to this, i like this much better, very good music, sounds like the progressive underground and a few popular bands from back in the day, yep, im loving this

  • @deebokid lmfao

  • @deebokid okay =)

  • Good call they need to search before to choose. Nice song!

  • @prenticeanyonewright who God is (hes not a big guy in the sky) and what the bible is, basically its not any better than others but the truths are more compatible and actually extremely compatible with todays scientific views (you'll understand this if you go through some of the articles on the sites), for example unlike Muslims the bible tells us to love and spread word through love, the muslim bible says to spread though word or sword, also it contradicts itself a few times.

  • @Con7rastZ

The Koran says nothing of the sort. It's taken out of context. Consider the Koran "The Bible: Reloaded." As for contradiction, both are a collection of things said by people who helped to bring their religion to light, like the disciples and people involved with the "movement." They contradict themself because they all would interpret Jesus' teachings slightly differently.

  • Comment removed

  • @deebokid well that is fine, I respect your views, I simply can't understand them.

  • @prenticeanyonywright anyways, sorry for the lengthy reply I know it doesn't have to do with the song which is INCREDIBLE, I'm not trying to convert you either, simply giving you a different point of view to choose openly what you wish to believe in, take care!

  • @Con7rastZ take care

  • @deebokid my point is the bible isn't your gods "word"

why arn't you a muslim or a jew? why is your book anymore true than theirs.

If you really are intrigued as to why I am an athiest you need nothing but to understand secondry school science.(high school in britain) If you are trying to convert me, you cannot without evidence. Btw this song fucking rocks!

  • why the fuck is people talking about the BIBLE?

  • Comment removed

  • @deebokid The books have been adapted over hundreds of years to fit into modern society.

So do you follow the earliest bible that says it is okay too keep slaves, or the one at your local bookstore?

  • @deebokid Yes it would, it starts with trail and error to create different simple organisms, then different life forms evolve as a result of evolution and mutation. The "but it is too complicated argument" has no merit, becease when things don't work out in nature only the strongest survive. Our brain changes because....let me put it this way, the animal with a muscle did not get eaten, the animal that loved protected others. Other millions of years these "mistakes" shaped animals.

  • @deebokid i would save a christian of course, beceause thats part of my personal moral code. whats a soul? our brains calculates and gives us emotions.

If there was a god who observed us then yes I would be happy, however if he was responsible for what happens in our world I would be very sad he has made the decisions he has. But as I said I have no reason to think he is real.

  • ho i can give answer to ur questions

  • lol apprenticeanyonywright is a retard

  • @ll11ful why am I an idiot?

    Don't worry about offending me.

  • THIS TRAIL IS OBSIDIAN, THE GRIP OF WINTER UNCOILED...

  • @deebokid also I am an athiest and have purpose, I like making people smile beceause it brings me joy, not because I want to go to heaven, I think I will decompose after death, perhaps I am more selfless than a religios person. Your "purpose" is your own personal goal(whether your a kind old man or a cereal killer.)

  • @deebokid Really or perhaps that was a result of genetic mutations over millions of years, I prefere that theory as there is lots and lots of evidence to back it up based on observation, these same people who observe use logic to create the things you use today(e.g, your computer) I could tell you a giant talking potatoe created the universe, now why on earth would you believe me?

Oh and btw, the human eye is so imperfect our brains fill in the missing details missed out by us.

  • @prenticeanyonywright I make people smile too, not because I want to go to heaven. Actually I put the world first before myself, and would give my life for an atheist, not because i want to go to heaven, but because I love our people. Would you give your life for a christian? Just a question. Your body will decompose, but where will your soul go? You believe you have no soul? Well, what if your wrong? Would you be sad if you found out there actually was a God? Or would that make you happy?

  • 258 Beiber Fans

  • @Aasutoshere one idiot

  • @deebokid I disagree due to lack of edidence to support your claims and evidence that points toward other more believable theories. Anyway if I believed in god I would despise him for what he has done in modern life and in various religious books. Also Opeth are scandanavians( more free culture, athiest) No disrespect toward the many kind nice religious people in the world =)

  • @deebokid I believe I'll go to my own paradise after life, so you can shove jesus and god down someone else's throat.

  • this song is almost as awesome as God

  • @mswaking anything is better than nothing :P

  • GOD IS MUCH MORE COMPLICATED THAN WE HAVE EVER THOUGHT, READ QUANTUM PHYSICS

  • @deebokid There is no "god" hush

  • @deebokid Well where is he?

  • @deebokid becease hes not real

  • This album owns Prog Rock..

  • Yes indeed, god is dead and Opeth kicks ass!

  • @deebokid Throw out the darkness

    Inside you, telling you now

    Senses corrupted

    Controlling a poisonous will

    Take the road where devils speak;

"God is dead, God is dead"

  • @deebokid u mad?

  • @metabog naw, you're wrong, rakerfeldt is dead :3 this album just fucking sucks like shit!! opeth 1994 - 2002

  • @Gatitasecsii Scared of music?

  • @OneEyedGatekeeper wtff scared? of this shit? man i've heard every single album from opeth, even damnation is scarier!! i hate how things turned out for akerfeldt, i think he crossed lines with people he shouldn't...

sorry this album is just pure garbage

  • @Gatitasecsii So is your taste in music, go kill yourself.

  • Chill the fuck out, Opeth got this.

  • I remember staring at this album cover a few months ago while I was on shrooms.

  • They've turned emo with this album.

  • @sputnikfloydwho For someone who listens King Krimson that's a quite narrow opinion to have, don't you think?

  • @sputnikfloydwho LOL do you even know what emo is?

  • @sputnikfloydwho ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME !!!!!!!

  • For a six and a half minute song, it felt pretty short. (Not that that's a bad thing)

  • I think I'm going mindfuck with all the technicality as I love heavy, death, core, and prog... by far this is a very technical prog song!

  • I don't get why everyone's so appauled by Heritage. Sure , i agree , it's certainly not like their other albums. But in it's own way it's still pretty cool i reckon. I'd still say it's my least favourite of their albums , but it would still be way the hell up there compared to albums by other bands

  • @muntificator well said

  • Gay band.

  • @MIKEPEARTNOY are you looking for a gay band here it is Cazwell - Ice Cream Truck ft. Cazwell

  • @MIKEPEARTNOY Your mum's cum covered face should've aborted you lol

  • @MIKEPEARTNOY do you need dick or pussy?

  • cant wait to listen this live.. February 7 2012 Maldives..

  • Positively surprised by this album. I listen prog rock as well as prog metal : from ELP, King Crimson to Opeth...Opeth to Opeth from now on. Wife offered me the limited edition guys...

  • i hate when i turn my speakers up really loud to listen to some fucking amazing Opeth and a god damn adam lambert advertisement pops up ....... it really kills my fucking mood....... good thing Opeth came on right after that and made me feel better

  • That SNARE sounds too good.

  • he has one of the best growls in metal history and hes not fucking growling on the whole fucking album

  • 4:14-4:18 sounds comfortably familiar :)

  • @immortalperser

LOTUS EATER! haha and 5:11 sounds like Dream theaters under a glass moon

  • @80smetalchild Really? I didn't catch that when I checked it out. How did you recognize the lotus though? Very nice catch!

  • @immortalperser

It reminds me of the part in Lotus Eater where he sings " and the pride of the mother, drawn close in a mother's son " very similar melody and almost identical rhythm!

  • @80smetalchild You're right! Damn,...silly me. Watershed is the only Opeth album (beside this one) that I haven't listed to! Very similar... I knew I have heard it somewhere but I couldn't find it because I forgot it was Opeth!

  • If you like Opeth, check out my Swedish one man experimental band, instrumental

  • all i see is trash talk and other misc. things. all i gotta say is fuck it all, only thing thats important is that i drove 9 hours to see opeth on their 20th anniversary evolution tour and i saw their heritage release tour. the music is all that matters, not people's dumbass opinions. opeth can and WILL be able to turn anything incredible

  • Jesus Christ, shut the fuck up and listen to the music. If you don't like it, stop spending your time on shit you don't even like.

  • pretty sure the tone, main riff, and vocals combined perfectly on his one

  • can't stop listening to this

  • Tbh a good portion of the dislikes on this video are likely Opeth fans, pissed at this album lol...

  • Opeth: I kinda wanna try Kyuss!

  • The organ at 4:32 sounds fucking awesome
