  • I have watched many vids of the theremin and how it works over the last 24 hrs... and the explaination that this thereminist gave finally made sense and bell rang! Ding, ding, ding, ding!

Antena + distance= wavelength (which is pitch) and the closer to the antenna the wavelength looks like sharp spikes and the further away it looks like gentle curves! "I can be taught!" LOL

(It doesn't look as impressive, the way I "wrote it" but, it hit me like a ton of bricks!)

    Thank you! Thank you! :)

    BOP

  • @BirdOfParadise777 Thanks, and congratulations, pleased to help.

Also it is important not to missunderstand one thing: the distance from the hand to the pitch antenna has 'physically' nothing to do with the wavelength, despite it would be very beautiful and similar to other instruments like trombone, strings, wind in general...

  • @Trombonauta "One can control changes in pitch with the right hand." and "The greater the difference between the two VFOs the higher the pitch." Would you please explain how I am missunderstanding it, or, what I am missing? Thank you for the help! :)

  • @BirdOfParadise777 Maybe you didn't missunderstand it. What I mean is that sometimes people thinks of the distance from the hand to the antenna as they think of distances in a cello string: if you want a octave you have to use one half of the string. That isn't how the theremin works. ;)

  • @Trombonauta Oh! Thank you:)

  • i want one.....it would drive my cat mitzi nuts..LOL!! awesome stuff tho..thanx for posting...great movie too--ED WOOD--

  • I always remember the Theremin score of The Day The Earth Stood Still, it just stuck in my mind when I first heard it.

  • that's pretty sick

  • Great video! Never seen it before....

  • Theremins rock.

Mr. Segal appears to be doing a limited run of his machines again. I have one of the last ones on reserve, and hope to have a new WaveFront Classic, within a couple weeks. *crosses fingers*

This video has given me the best look at the craftsmanship of the Classic, to date. It's very hard to find good photo reference of them on the net.

  • i'm getting a theremin as a christmas gift. i don't have it yet, but i'm so excited...

  • If you got it, how easy is it to play, is it fun, and does it sound cool?

  • i actually found out yesterday that the kind of theremin i have isn't for playing music. it's a pitch-only antenna, so it doesn't have the looped one that controls volume. it's made particularly for making noises, not music. it sounds cool, but it's the actual music one i wanted. i didn't know mine was only for making noise... it wasn't in the description of it on the website i got it from.

  • the pitch is the essence of music. you know, notes

  • Pitch accuracy is very challenging on this instrument, yes. Dynamics are hugely important. If you want a taste of dynamics done well, check out Clara Rockmore's video of "Vocalise." The more theremin playing I hear, the more convinced I am that the control of volume is the soul of the instrument.

  • I luv Howard Shore's work. Especially the song near the end of the movie "The Cell" called "Vital Signs"... frikken kickass!

  • Very concise description of the superheterodyne mixing and capacitive coupling concept of the theremin. I'm saving this! ;)

  • is it true theremine makes hair lost......?

  • Wouldn't surprise me, Bill Bailey Plays theremin and look at his!

  • hehe okay sure.. lOL!

  • Howard Shore is the best!!! The music he made to the lord of the rings is the best!!!!!!!!!
